Nebraska family in fear after teen beauty queen disappears

Authorities are searching for a teenage beauty queen who vanished Sunday without a trace after she took out the trash at her eastern Nebraska home.

Michaela Wells, 16, had just spent the day shopping with her mother for the gown she’d wear in the upcoming USA National Pageant in Florida.

"She couldn’t be happier," Theresa Norris, her mother, told FoxNews.com. "She couldn’t get a smile off her face because she was also asked out [on a date]."

Norris explained that her daughter was planning to attend a high school "military ball" for students involved with the junior ROTC program.

Wells told her grandmother, who was visiting at the time, that she was going to take out the trash from her Bellevue, Neb., home.

"It usually takes her 10 minutes," she said.

Time passed at the family began to panic. The teen's dad drove through the neighborhood and the mom called friends. It was late Sunday night and the girl was last seen at about 8:30 p.m. Norris said her daughter was not dressed for the weather and even left her cell phone inside the house.

"Her friends are in shock as some of them had just talked to her the afternoon before she vanished to make plans for the week," Norris said in a Facebook post, reported The Omaha World –Herald.

Wells, the 2013 winner of the USA National Miss Nebraska Teen competition, was last seen wearing jeans, black slip on pumps and a teal hoodie, her mother said. The family made the appeal on Facebook after informing the Bellevue police the girl had been missing.

A police spokeswoman said the teen was entered in the database as a missing juvenile, the newspaper reported.

Wells has long brown hair and stands about 5’6. She is home schooled and has a USA National Miss Pageant scheduled for June. According to a Nebraska State fair biography, the teen has used her crown to promote awareness of her younger brother’s disease called Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome.

Though her whereabouts are unclear, police do not believe the girl is in danger, WOWT.com reported.

Bellevue teen missing since Sunday night

BELLEVUE, Neb. —Family members tell KETV NewsWatch 7 16-year-old Michaela Wells has been missing since Sunday night.

The teenager was last seen at her Bellevue home, according to Bellevue police. Wells' mother said the girl took out the trash around 8:30 p.m. Sunday and didn't return.

"Our daughter is one of those people who when she says she's going to come back, she comes back," Well's mother, Theresa Norris, said.

Update: Bellevue Police Don't Believe Missing Teen In Danger

The family of Michaela Wells is asking for help. Her mother told WOWT 6 News Michaela took the trash out Sunday and never came back inside.

Michaela was last seen at her Grandmother's home, in the Golden Hills Subdivision at 36th and Highway 370, on Sunday evening, March 2. Her mother told WOWT 6 News Michaela took the trash out around 8:30 p.m. and didn't return.

Bellevue police confirm Michaela was reported missing on March 3. Officers said she has been entered into the database as a missing juvenile, they don't believe Michaela is in any danger.

so it would make more sense that she took the trash out in that attire.  This article also says it was Mom who said she took the trash out not the grandmother.  Now we are back to the game of determining which press outlet is closer to the truth than the others.

Missing Teen Found In Indiana

Sixteen-year-old Michaela Wells, missing since last weekend, has been located. Authorities say she’s been found at a residence in Indianapolis and is now safe in police custody. She is reported to be in good health and her parents have been notified.

Miss Wells was reported missing on March 3.

Police say she was located at 8:20 p.m. Thursday. There was no immediate word on the circumstances of the case or how she wound up in Indiana. Police have not specified where she was staying, only that she was located in a residence there.

Bellevue Police say the investigation is still continuing in Indianapolis.

Police: Missing teen left home on own accord

Bellevue police said Michaela Wells, 16, was found at a home in Indianapolis on Thursday. She was reported to be in good health. Authorities notified her parents about 15 minutes later.
According to Bellevue police, investigators were able to determine that Wells could be with an unknown person in Indiana.

Once she was located by the FBI in Indianapolis, Wells told agents in Indianapolis that she left her home on her own accord and was not taken against her will.

Police said Wells was found with a juvenile male inside the home around 8:20 p.m. Thursday.

Wells is currently in the custody of the Indiana Division of Family and Children.

Police said local and federal authorities are working to return Wells to Nebraska.
