Authorities search for clues to Locklear's disappearance

Posted 12:14 p.m. Friday

Hope Mills, N.C. — As the family of Danielle Locklear awaits word from the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office about whether it was her body that was found Wednesday in the South River, Cumberland County sheriff's deputies talked to two people who might provide clues to what happened to the missing Hope Mills teen.

Sources close to the investigation say deputies searched two homes Friday – one off N.C. Highway 210 and another on Cade Hill Road – for clues to her disappearance.

Those sources said deputies talked to people of interest at both places and found evidence in first the home that relates to the case, but they would not specify what that evidence is.

Cade Hill and Deep Creek roads do intersect, so imo both articles could be referring to the same location.

HOPE MILLS — A day after a body was pulled from the South River, the family of missing 15-year-old Danielle Locklear — and a shaken community — are still longing for answers.

Locklear was last seen on March 11 leaving her grandparents’ home on Threncholm Lane. She had told her grandfather she was going to the home of a friend, Alexus Cross, nearby but Cross said she never arrived.

Fayetteville, N.C. — A body found in the South River in Cumberland County last Wednesday has been identified as Danielle Locklear, sources confirmed. Danielle’s boyfriend, Je'Michael Malloy, has confessed to killing her and was arrested Tuesday along with a second person of interest, sources said.

The person of interest was arrested at a home on Cade Hill Road where authorities searched Friday, sources said.

Investigators will hold a press conference at 9 p.m. to share more information.

Authorities: Locklear choked to death, then dumped in river

Posted 36 minutes ago
Updated 2 minutes ago

Fayetteville, N.C. — After choking Danielle Locklear to death and stuffing a sock in her mouth, Je'Michael Malloy and a friend tossed her body into the South River at the Cumberland-Sampson line, authorities said Tuesday night.

Je'Michael, 17, of Highway 210 South in Autryville, was Danielle's boyfriend and is now charged with second degree murder. His friend, Dominic Lock, 18, of the 1300 block of Cade Hill Avenue in Fayetteville, is charged with conspiracy. Both were arrested Tuesday.

The arrests end nearly a month of searching and speculation after Danielle, 15, disappeared on March 11 after leaving her grandparents’ home on Trencholm Lane in the Fox Meadow/Brook Ridge subdivisions to visit a friend. She never arrived, and her grandfather contacted police the following day.

Danielle's body was found in the river last Wednesday by an off-duty Cumberland County sheriff's deputy near the South Gray Street bridge near Autryville, along the Cumberland-Sampson line. Her physical description, along with the clothes she was last seen wearing, helped to identify her, authorities said.

HOPE MILLS, N.C. -

The former boyfriend of missing Hope Mills teen Danielle Locklear admitted to killing her, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and Hope Mills Police Department announced Tuesday.

Sheriff Earl Butler and Chief Joel Acciardo called an emergency press conference Tuesday night to announce Je'Michael Malloy's arrest as well as confirm that a body recovered April 3 from the South River was Locklear's.

Butler said a second suspect, 18-year-old Dominic Lock, was also arrested and charged in Locklear's death.

Locklear, a student at South View High School, had not been seen since March 11, when she told her grandfather she was going to a friend’s house a block away.

Butler said investigators learned that Locklear and Malloy got into an argument the day she disappeared, which then turned violent.

Malloy, 17, told investigators that he choked Locklear to death and stuffed a sock in her mouth.

He said he and his friend then tied cinder blocks to her body and tossed her into the South River.

Malloy is charged with second degree murder.

Hope Mills police say Malloy and Locklear got into an argument on March 11. They also say he choked her and stuffed a sock in her mouth.

Malloy and Lock then allegedly tossed her body over a bridge.

Locklear’s remains were found with cinder blocks with tied to her body.

Right now, the body, which was found April 2 by an off-duty deputy, has not been positively identified, but based on conversations and Malloy’s confession; police say they know it’s her.

sad, sad, sad, i dont understand why they think murder is the answer
dont they know all you have to do, is take yourself out of the situation
to avoid harming, or murdering, someone, in a short time 9Xs out of 10
your calm again, and life goes on, now its going on behind bars, and in
this case your life, that just got going, has stalled for maybe 20-30 years

Ex-boyfriend confesses to killing North Carolina teen, says pal helped him dump body: authorities

Je'Michael Malloy, 17, allegedly told investigators he killed his 15-year-old girlfriend, Danielle Locklear - whose body was found in a Hope Mills river on April 3. Malloy said he strangled the girl and watched his friend, 18-year-old Dominic Lock, stuff a sock in her throat before they dumped her body in the river, authorities said.

BY Joe Kemp
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Thursday, April 10, 2014, 10:03 PM

Hope Mills Police Chief Joel Acciardo told reporters on Tuesday that Locklear went to Malloy’s home in Autryville — another small town outside Fayetteville — where the two got into a heated argument.

Malloy and Lock killed Locklear — a freshman at South View High School — during the spat, Acciardo said.

Investigators believe Lock put a sock in the teen’s throat before they hauled her body to the river.

The missing teen’s aunt, Chena Simmons, said the family was shocked to hear Malloy admitted to the grisly crime — because he was supporting the family during their search for the girl.

“That’s another thing that’s so devastating to us,” Simmons told WRAL-TV. “That he could just stand there with us, asking, ‘Is everything okay? Do you all feel okay?’”

Simmons said Malloy showed no signs of being violent.

“This young man goes to church with us,” she said. “He seemed like such a nice young man, and so it’s one of those things that’s unbelievable.”

Defense in Locklear case: We're not talking about a cold-hearted monster
Friday, April 11, 2014

Nicole Carr

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Children dealing with adult situations, and operating with juvenile minds.

That's how the defense for a Cumberland County teen describes what led 17-year-old Je'Michael Malloy to killing his young ex-girlfriend, 15-year-old Danielle Locklear.

"All we ask is for the public to remember is that you're talking about a 15-year-old victim and a 17-year-old defendant," said Fayetteville defense attorney D.W. Bray. "And we know 15-year-old kids don't make wise decisions, and neither do 17-year-old boys, and that what he is-a boy."

Earlier in the week, Malloy admitted to choking Locklear to death, then enlisting the help of a friend and classmate to dump the girl's body in the South River. That friend, 18-year-old Dominic Lock, was initially charged with conspiracy, but a day later faced second-degree murder charges along with Malloy.

The two are Cape Fear High School seniors. Locklear was a freshman at South View High School.

Wednesday evening, Lock posted a $100,000 bond. Efforts to reach out to him have been unsuccessful. Bray said he's advised Malloy to stay in jail, partly to "purge," and partly to separate from a community passionate about the high profile case.

Bray said Malloy is a well-mannered teen who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He said he never had a violent history or a juvenile record. He was set to enlist in the Marines after graduation.

"We're not talking about a cold-hearted monster," he said. "We're talking about a very decent young man."

"I think it's important to note that Je'Michael came forward to law enforcement," added Bray. "This was lying heavily on his heart, and not only did he want to provide closure for Danielle's family, he wanted to provide closure for himself."

When asked why it took Malloy three weeks to confess, after he'd liked a Facebook page to "Help Find Danielle Locklear," and after he attended a memorial balloon release for the girl, Bray boiled it down to juvenile emotions.

"And well, that's a very reasonable question but again, we're talking about a 17 year old and a 17 year old with that stressful and heavy-some of a burden, it's not unreasonable to be silent."

"Lost in this--we don't want the focus to just be on the defendant or Danielle," he continued. "I think after all the facts come out in this case, this may be a learning experience for many young people in the community."

Locklear's family declined to immediately respond to Bray's comments, instead they say they'll do it as a large family unit, but they fiercely disagree with the attorney's thoughts.

Meanwhile, more than 14,000 supporters on the "Justice for Danielle Locklear" page are encouraging people to write Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West, and push him to seek first degree murder charges in the case. Sources close to the case maintain Malloy made prior threats to Locklear that would satisfy pre-meditation.
