A young Medford mother never returned home after a night at a friend's house Friday, but her car was found two days later at least a mile from where she lives, Suffolk police said Monday.

Sarah P. Goode, 21, disappeared under what detectives call "suspicious" circumstances, and her family Monday joined police in appealing for the public's help. Friends Monday night searched for her in the woods near where her car was found.

"We are desperate to find her," Elizabeth DeMuria, 36, said before directing a plea to her sister to come home. "We love you. . . . We just want you to come home safely."

Goode, a medical technician in Patchogue with a 4-year-old daughter, was last seen about 1 a.m. Saturday at a friend's house in Shirley, police said.

Sarah Goode's friends ask her 'killer' to surrender

One day after a search party found a body that a police source said is missing mother Sarah P. Goode, the young woman's friends delivered a tearful plea for her "killer" to surrender.

Three friends showed up Friday afternoon near the woods by Camden Court in Medford, where police found the body Thursday evening.

"Just turn yourself in and confess to this horrible thing you did," said Kirstin Berkowitz, of Shirley. "I hope you have the worst guilty conscience. How can you be so cruel?"

A police source said Goode was the victim of a homicide, and police are investigating whether she was assaulted during a "domestic type" incident involving someone she knew that ended in her death.

Investigators and crime scene technicians spent nearly 24 hours combing the densely wooded, tick-infested area where Goode was found, collecting forensic evidence and traces of her remains.

Her body had decomposed "substantially" after being in the damp woodlands nearly a week, the source said.

Investigators have collected evidence -- including blood -- from inside and around the car, on which forensic testing is still being done. One possibility police are investigating is whether Goode was physically assaulted in or near the car, killed and left in the woods by her attacker.

Suffolk police are awaiting official identification of the body by the medical examiner's office, a spokeswoman said. The cause and manner of death has not been made official.

Police have received numerous tips from friends, family members and associates of Goode about who may have been involved in her disappearance, the source said. But the department officially declined to release any information about the body or potential suspects, angering many area residents who said they deserved to know whether a killer had struck -- and remained free -- in their community.

Man arrested in death of missing Long Island mom
July 12, 2014

In this undated photo provided by the Suffolk County Police Department, Dante Taylor is shown. Taylor was arrested in Florida on Thursday, July 12 and brought back to New York to face second degree murder charges for the death of Sarah Goode. Goode disappeared on June 6, 2014 after watching television with friends. Her body was found in a thickly wooded area not far from searchers found her car. MEDFORD, N.Y. (AP) — A prosecutor says cellphone records, blood, and a palm print tie a man arrested in Florida this week to the death of a missing young mother whose body was found in the woods on Long Island.

Dante Taylor was arraigned Saturday in Suffolk County Court on a second-degree murder charge in Sarah Goode's death. The 21-year-old's disappearance and the discovery of her car near her home prompted a dayslong search in June.

Taylor, 19, of Mastic, was arrested on an unrelated warrant Thursday in Vero Beach, Florida, and was returned to Long Island. He is jailed without bail.

Prosecutor Janet Albertson said in court Saturday that Goode had been raped and beaten and her hair cut off by having it closed in a window of her car. Albertson said a piece of metal was found in Goode's skull.

She said a grand jury would hear the case next week and she would seek to upgrade Taylor's charge to first-degree murder.

Defense lawyer Patrick O'Connell declined to comment on Taylor's arrest but said his client felt "heartfelt sympathies and prayers" for Goode and her family.

Goode was a medical technician with a 4-year-old daughter; she lived in Medford. She vanished after an evening watching a movie on TV with some close friends June 6, police said.

An older sister of Goode's called police about two days later, saying the close-knit family hadn't heard from her and that was unusual.

About an hour later, police found Goode's 1999 gray BMW parked near woods around Medford. The car showed no signs of a crash or violence. The find sparked an extensive search. Ultimately, a volunteer search party of 40 to 50 people discovered her body in a thickly wooded area not far from the car.

Police did not say whether Taylor and Goode knew each other or what investigators believe led to her death. A friend, Kirstin Berkowitz, told Newsday the two had once had a romantic relationship.

A memorial fund has raised more than $37,000 through the online fundraising site Crowdrise to help support Goode's daughter and pay for funeral expenses.

The family planned to hold a vigil Saturday night at a Long Island beach.

Police arrest ex-Marine in murder of New York mom
July 12, 2014

An ex-Marine has been arrested and charged in the brutal murder of a 21-year-old mother whose body was found in a wooded area on New York’s Long Island, police say.

Dante Taylor, 19, pleaded not guilty through his attorney Saturday to second-degree murder in the killing of Sarah Goode. Prosecutors say they will seek to upgrade the charge.

Authorities arrested Taylor in Vero Beach, Florida, Thursday on an unrelated warrant for attempted rape, and transported him to New York, WABC reported.

Goode was reported missing by her family after failing to return from a friend’s house near her home on June 7. Authorities found her abandoned BMW about a mile from her home two days later, and reported a significant amount of blood and other signs of a struggle.

The search ended tragically when a private search party made up of mostly family members found her body June 12. An autopsy report found Goode suffered “multiple sharp, force injuries about her head and torso,” Newsday reported.

Her body was found naked from the waist down, and Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Janet Albertson said Goode was “clearly the victim of sexual assault,” the newspaper reported.

Taylor and Goode reportedly exchanged phone calls on the night she vanished. Authorities said a bloody palm print recovered at the scene belongs to Taylor. Authorities linked him to the killing using GPS tracking and through physical evidence, Albertson told the newspaper.

Kristen Berkowitz, a friend of Goode’s who told the newspaper she previously had a romantic relationship with Taylor described him as a “violent person.”

“He just wasn’t normal. We were scared of what he might do because of his temper,” Berkowitz told the newspaper.

Taylor was discharged from the Marines less than a year after entering active service, a spokesman told Newsday. The spokesman did not disclose the reason for his discharge.

Ex-Marine arrested in killing of woman who ‘spurned’ him
July 12, 2014

Dante Taylor, 19, was charged Saturday with second-degree murder in the grisly death of Sarah Goode, 21, the Medford woman whose half-naked body was found in the woods near her home by family members who were desperate to find her after she mysteriously vanished from a party.
Cell phone records, GPS, and a bloody palm print inside Goode’s car link Taylor, who spent about seven months in the Marines before he was discharged, to the crime, prosecutors said at his arraignment in Central Islip court.
The single mother of a 4-year-old girl was sexually assaulted, authorities said. There was a “significant amount of blood in her vehicle,” and “a large amount” of her hair hanging from the car window, Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Janet Albertson added.
Goode was beaten so badly, an autopsy found a small piece of metal lodged in her skull, said authorities, who did not identify a murder weapon.
A friend who knew both Taylor and Goode said the “troubled” young man wanted to date Goode — but she wasn’t interested.
“He could not accept that,” said the pal, who asked not to be identified.
Police questioned Taylor for 10 hours about Goode’s June 7 disappearance, but released him last month.

He was busted in Vero Beach, Fla., as a fugitive in an unrelated case — though his attorney, Patrick O’Connell, insisted Taylor had simply relocated there with his family, and wasn’t trying to flee the cops.
Taylor was charged with attempted rape for a 2011 incident in which a woman claims he tried to sexually assault her at knifepoint in his bedroom. She escaped, said prosecutors who said they weren’t aware of the attempted rape until they began investigating Goode’s death.
Goode’s relatives and friends packed the court where Taylor was arraigned. Her mother and sisters openly wept as Albertson described the grisly crime scenes.
“I hope you burn in hell, you f- -k,” Goode’s brother-in-law, Nick Giannetto, screamed at Taylor, before he was escorted from the courtroom.
Goode’s sister, Elizabeth DeMuria, 36, said the family doesn’t know Taylor and doesn’t know how the two met.
