Arlington toddler beaten, stomped to death
July 8, 2014

ARLINGTON, Texas - A man who lives in the south Arlington home where a child was reported missing is now charged with murder.

Joshua Beard, 20, was arrested Saturday on unrelated outstanding warrants and now faces a capital murder charge. The murder charge was added Monday afternoon.

The arrest warrant affidavit states Beard allegedly beat 19-month-old Tylea Moore by “hitting her with his closed fists, open hands and stomping on her with his feet."

Officers began searching a home in the 2200 block of Polo Club Court Sunday afternoon after getting a call about a missing child from the mother, Alexis Botello, 17.

But Botello’s story changed after questioning, and she eventually told officers that she was in the home when the July 4 beating occurred. Botello also claimed she was hit by her boyfriend, Beard.

According to a search warrant affidavit, when Botello woke up in the middle of the night to Moore crying, the toddler “…had bruises on her ribs, chest, arms, legs and even on the top of her feet. She also had bite marks all over her.”

That affidavit also says, “Beard picked Tylea up and threw her so hard on the bed that she bounced off and landed on the ground.”

According to that affidavit, Beard and Botello put the toddler’s body in a car and drove from Arlington to a Walmart, where they purchased gloves and shovels.

Officers found a toddler’s body under a bridge in Springtown, which is located in a remote part of Parker County. Arlington police declined to say it was Moore’s body, but said circumstantial evidence led them to believe it was the toddler.

Shovels were found hidden along the side of the road.

Police are considering filing charges against Botello for her alleged role in the incident.

Beard was not the father of the child and had been dating Botello for just a few months.

Botello had been staying in a room at an Arlington Studio 6 that Beard had gotten for her.

I'll bet LE are trying to figure out what to charge Botello with, and to what extent she was possibly involved in the abuse, death and disposal.   I hope they throw the book at her.

Joshua Beard faces a capital murder charge in the brutal beating death of 19-month-old Tylea Moore in Arlington on July 4, 2014.

ARLINGTON — Police in Arlington have arrested a man accused in the brutal beating death of his girlfriend's 19-month-old child last week.
Joshua Beard, 20, faces a capital murder charge. He was already jailed on an unrelated charge, but then new information emerged on Sunday linking him to the homicide.
According to police documents, Beard allegedly beat Tylea Moore "by hitting her with his closed fists, open hands and stomping on her with his feet" at a residence in the 2200 block of Polo Club Court.
The child's mother, 17-year-old Alexis Botello, reported Tylea was missing on Sunday, but investigators quickly surmised that her story was not adding up.
"The story began to unravel, and we began to think the child's welfare was definitely in jeopardy," said Arlington police Lt. Chris Cook.
Botello soon admitted she was present when Tylea was being beaten, according to the search warrant. She told police that Beard also hit her.
The child had been beaten so badly that she did not wake up.
Beard and Botello put Tylea's body in the trunk of her car; they then drove away, stopping at  a Wal-Mart in Weatherford to buy gloves and two shovels, she told police.
Botello showed officers where Tylea had been buried, under a bridge near Springtown in rural Parker County. Police recovered shovels that had been hidden in trees along the side of the road.

All indications are the child's body found on Monday afternoon is Tylea's, although the Tarrant County Medical Examiner has yet to release an official finding.
Alexis Botello has not yet been charged in connection with the crime.

Texas Man Charged In Brutal Death Of Girlfriend’s Toddler

ARLINGTON (July 8, 2014) Joshua Markus Beard, 20, remained in custody Tuesday, charged with capital murder in the beating death of his girlfriend's 18-month-old daughter, whose body was buried under a bridge in Parker County.

A search warrant affidavit says Tylea Moore was killed on Friday in Arlington at the home Beard and the girl’s mother, Alexis Botello, 17, shared.

Police were called Sunday to investigate after relatives could not find the child.

The affidavit says Beard hit the toddler with his fists and open hands and then stomped on her, calling her the “little demon.”

At one point, Beard, picked up the girl and threw her on the bed with such force that she bounced off and landed on the floor, the affidavit said.

Then Beard began stomping repeatedly on the toddler’s stomach, the affidavit said.

Botello told investigators her daughter had bruises and bite marks all over her body and cuts on the mouth, the affidavit said.

She and Beard attempted CPR after they realized the toddler wasn’t breathing, but could not revive her, the affidavit said.

Beard then put the girl’s body in the trunk of Botello’s car and the two drove to a Walmart store in Weatherford to buy gloves and two shovels.

The girl’s diaper-clad body was wrapped in a blanket and buried near Springtown, about 40 miles away.

Beard was served with the arrest warrant Monday in jail, where he was already held after his arrest on Saturday on drug and traffic violations.

Arlington mom charged in connection to daughter's slaying
July 8, 2014

A 17-year-old Arlington mother was arrested and charged Tuesday night in connection to the recent death of her young daughter.

Alexis Botello was charged with tampering or fabricating physical evidence and injury to a child, police say. Her bond has been set at $125,000.

Police say Botello’s boyfriend, 20-year-old Joshua Beard, beat her 1 and-a-half-year-old daughter, Tylea Moore, to death.

Beard was charged with murder Monday afternoon.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit for Botello, Beard put the toddler’s body in a car, and he and Botello drove from Arlington to a Weatherford Walmart, where they purchased gloves and shovels.

They then allegedly dug a grave under a bridge and buried Moore’s body before Beard covered the grave with logs and rocks. Moore was wearing a diaper and was wrapped in a blanket.

The affidavit says that on Sunday, Botello was questioned, and she showed detectives where Moore was buried as well as where she and Beard had left two shovels.

The grave was exhumed Monday, where a child’s body was found. A doctor with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed that the body found was a female child’s that looked to be the age of Moore. The body was wearing a diaper and was wrapped in a blanket.

On Monday, detectives went to the Weatherford Walmart, where employees showed them surveillance video of Beard and Botello buying shovels and gloves with cash on the night of July 4.

Prior to Botello’s arrest, friends and family of Botello told FOX 4 earlier on Tuesday that she was in a troubled relationship and they feared for her and her child.

Botello’s father, Ricardo, said his daughter loved Moore and that Botello’s alleged actions may have been out of her fear of Beard.

"I can only assume that my daughter feared for her life,” said Ricardo. “Who wouldn't fear for their life after they just witnessed their child slain?”

"I know her mom was very scared because she was scared of Josh hurting them,” said Amanda Bennett, a friend of Botello’s.

Beard’s alleged violence toward Botello was referenced by detectives.

According to the search warrant, "…Beard then started yelling and hitting Botello…" and later that night, "…Beard began hitting Botello…” As Beard was allegedly stomping on the toddler, "…Beard hit and choked Botello when she tried to stop him.”

Beard was not the father of the child and had been dating Botello for just a few months.

The child’s biological father, Chris Moore, is a marine and has taken the death of his daughter very hard.
