US intel officials: Russia created 'conditions' that led to plane downing
Published July 22, 2014

Senior intelligence officials said Tuesday Russia created the “conditions" that led to the downing  of a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet over eastern Ukraine but stopped short of directly linking Moscow to the fatal missile strike.

The officials said-that anti Ukraine government forces, which are backed by Russia, likely fired the missile that took down Flight MH-17 last Thursday, killing all 298 aboard.

MH17: Plane with Malaysian bodies arrives in Kuala Lumpur
August 21, 2014

A specially chartered plane took off from Amsterdam and landed around 10:00 local time (02:00 GMT).

National flags will be flying at half-mast across the country and a minute of silence will be observed.

Flight MH17 is believed to have been shot down by a missile fired by pro-Russian rebels. They deny the claim.

All 298 passengers and crew on board the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 died on 17 July.

A small contingent of Malaysian soldiers marched up to the plane to escort the coffins as they are being unloaded.

Meanwhile, large white funeral hearses have lined up on the tarmac.

All the coffins are draped in the national flag. Three of the 20 bodies have been cremated in the Netherlands.

The country's public transportation, including the national rail system and Kuala Lumpur's monorail, will also come to a standstill to observe two minutes of silence, said The New Straits Times.

Toll booths on highways will have electronic signs urging drivers to alight from their vehicles.

Both The New Straits Times and the Star newspapers have darkened their mastheads on their websites as a sign of respect.

Investigation hampered
The victims' bodies will later be given to the their families and relatives to be laid to rest.

This is the first time Malaysia is holding a national day of mourning for civilian victims.

The honour has traditionally been accorded only to the royal family and heads of government.

Of those on board Flight MH17, 43 were Malaysian nationals.

So far 28 Malaysian victims have been identified in the Netherlands, which is leading an international investigation into the crash in eastern Ukraine.

More than 200 coffins with remains of the victims have so far been taken to the Netherlands.

MH17 crash: Dutch experts say numerous objects hit plane
September 9, 2014

The Dutch team analysed photographs of the wreckage that showed a number of pieces with multiple holes

Dutch experts say Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 broke up in mid-air after being hit by "objects" that "pierced the plane at high velocity" in July.

The new report also said there was "no evidence of technical or human error".

Correspondents say this matches claims that MH17 was hit by missile shrapnel.

Investigators relied on cockpit data, air traffic control and images, as the crash site in eastern Ukraine remains too dangerous to access amid fighting between government troops and rebels.

The plane was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it crashed in rebel-held territory in eastern Ukraine.

All 298 people on board, most of them from the Netherlands, died when the plane came down, amid reports it was shot down by pro-Russian rebels.

Tjibbe Joustra, chairman of the Dutch Safety Board, which is conducting the investigation, said a final report would take around a year to publish.
