The  A&P Spanish Bar Cake Recipe

The Real Spanish Bar Cake

2 1/4 cups flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
4 Tbs. cocoa
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup melted butter
1 cup applesauce
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups raisins, soaked in water until plumped then drained
3/4 cup walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease & flour a 9 X 13 baking pan.

Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl; add oil, applesauce, sour cream, and eggs, and mix well.

Stir in raisins and nuts.

Pour batter into pan and bake for 40-45 minutes.

Cool completely before frosting with buttercream.
