Police searching for missing Pulaski County boy

Posted: Sunday, March 22, 2015 5:04 pm

Police and rescue crews searched Sunday night for a Pulaski County boy who went missing from his home.

Noah Terry Thomas, 5, of Dublin disappeared about 9 a.m. Sunday from his home in the 5400 block of Highland Road, said Anthony Akers, assistant Pulaski County administrator.

“He was in his home watching cartoons,” Akers said. But when Noah’s mother got up, he was missing. The boy is thought to have left on foot."

The family home is located between the New River Valley Airport and Cloyd’s Mountain.

Noah is described as 3 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 60 pounds and has red hair and brown eyes. He is thought to have been wearing a camouflage jacket, black and yellow pants, and Spider-Man rain boots.

Multiple agencies join the search for missing Pulaski County 5-year-old boy

Posted: Mar 22, 2015 11:48 AM PST Updated: Mar 23, 2015 9:29 AM PST
By WSLS 10 Staff

PULASKI COUNTY (WSLS 10) - More than 100 members from local, regional and state agencies are continuing to search for missing 5-year-old Noah Terry Thomas.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office said Monday there are no solid leads in this case. However, they say they are continuing to search by foot, air and utilizing blood hounds to find the missing boy.

According to Assistant County Administrator Anthony Akers, a few miles around the boy's home were searched by foot on Sunday, March 22. Crews have also been using helicopters in the search. After flooding the area with manpower, authorities say there were no key findings overnight.

Police plan to go over the same areas they searched Sunday night, while the rest of the search crews are going to be expanding beyond that. Investigators say they're going to follow up on any leads of substance that come in. Crews plan to conduct an in-depth neighborhood search Monday.

Sheriff Davis says they are still treating this case as a missing child, who left on foot, who is believed to be in danger. The boy was last seen at 5461 Highland Road in Dublin, Virginia.

Davis says the boy's parents have been cooperating and were with investigators throughout the night.

Search continues for missing 5-year-old Pulaski County boy
Noah Thomas has not been seen since Sunday morning

Posted March 22, 2015, Updated March 23, 2015

UPDATE 11:20 a.m.  Monday

State police, FBI and Pulaski County deputies are widening a search for a missing 5-year-old Pulaski County boy.

Police say when Noah Thomas's mother woke up at 9 a.m. Sunday morning, Noah was in the living room watching cartoons.

She told police she went back to sleep and when she woke up around 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m., he was gone. She searched for Noah herself and called the police around 11 a.m.

The ground search never ended overnight. New search teams are coming in to look within a one-mile radius of where he was last seen.

Monday's search is more aggressive and detailed than Sunday's. Sunday's search was "fast" and unsuccessful, even though crews "flooded the area with manpower," according to Pulaski County Sheriff Jim Davis.

At least 150 law enforcement and emergency crew members are searching. State police from Fairfax to Virginia Beach area are helping.

Crews are also using dogs to search near the home. The dogs stopped near the road, which is "never typical," according to Davis.

Search teams aren't ruling out anything as far as what may have happened to the boy, according to Anthony Akers, assistant county administrator, but there is nothing at this time indicating that this is a suspicious case.

"We have no evidence that has come forward as to any foul play or any vehicle seen in the area," Davis said. "And if you’ll think this is a Sunday morning, a lot of people are moving around. While it’s on a rural route, it’s a tight residential community?."

No neighbors have reported seeing anything unusual, or seeing the boy. The living room door was ajar, according to Davis.

An Amber Alert was not issued because there is no vehicle or stranger description to give.

Investigators are interviewing people who know the child well. They are also looking into the sex offender registry.

Akers says crews are optimistic they will find Noah alive.

Noah has no unusual medical history or needs. Family members say he is a happy child, and very cautious. There are no red flags, according to Davis.

Search crews have drained one pond, and have ruled that out as a possibility.

Bloodhounds, horse-mounted searchers and helicopters are being used in the search. Law enforcement officers are also looking at surveillance footage from local stores.

Multiple agencies, including the FBI, are involved in the search. Crews from all over the state are searching in a two-mile radius near Noah's home. Crews are working 12-hour shifts.

PULASKI CO., Va. -

The search for 5-year-old Noah Thomas has entered its third day, and still no answers.

The search has now spread out several miles from his home in Dublin. Noah was last seen at his Highland Road home on Sunday morning.

Noah’s parents, Ashley White and Paul Thomas, have remained secluded in their home on Highland Road in Dublin. They have met with investigators at least once at the sheriff's office.

A myriad of law enforcement from all over the region and state have set up a command center about a half-mile from the home.

Searchers have found nothing of significance so far. But there is no plan to stop searching, according to Pulaski County Sheriff Jim Davis.

PRESS CONFERENCE

Noah Thomas case: Lack of progress 'extremely frustrating
Posted: Wednesday, March 25, 2015 10:27 am

DUBLIN – As the search for five-year-old Noah Thomas closed on day four, investigators say progress has been “extremely frustrating” with very few leads that point to what could have happened to him.

It was initially reported that Noah was last seen between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. However, at a news conference on Wednesday, Assistant Pulaski County Administrator Anthony Akers clarified that Noah was actually last seen by his mother at 7 a.m. watching cartoons. His mother then went and took a nap, and woke up around 10:35 a.m. and noticed Noah was missing.

Akers said his mother did a search of the residence then immediately called 911, and the search began shortly after 11 a.m. That 911 call is not being released at this time since it is still a part of the investigation.

According to Akers, the parents, Paul Raymond Thomas, 32, and Ashley Jennifer White, 31, have been “extremely cooperative and very distraught” and are not ready to speak with the media yet.

While the parent’s movements are not being restricted, they are being monitored, Akers said. It is unclear at this time whether the family has hired a lawyer, but Akers speculated that they had been read their Miranda rights as part of the questioning process.

Later Wednesday Akers clarified some comments he made during the news conference: The parents are "in no way being considered suspects," he said; and  Akers also said that the parents are being assisted and helped in any way they need during this tough time. Additionally, investigators and crews are not able to speculate on Noah's current condition but continue to do everything in their power to find him and bring him home safely.

While the search continues, the idea that Noah could have been abducted continues to be on the forefront of many people’s minds. However as of Wednesday evening, there is still no substantial information to confirm that.

Janet, IMO, it could be for any number of reasons.

His eye color also "changed." It was first reported as green, then later reported as brown.

Why do you ask?

When it is considered that Noah went missing on March 22nd ... why was there no clarification until March 24nd regarding the two hour discrepancy in the timeline ... the two hour discrepancy regarding the last time Noah was seen by his mother?  Is there a reasonable explanation or ... could it be a red flag?

Time between Noah Thomas' last sighting and start of search critical
Mar 25, 2014

The reporting of the timeline surrounding Noah Thomas' disappearance has changed since Sunday morning. Anthony Akers with Pulaski County confirmed Tuesday night that Noah was last seen Sunday morning in the seven o'clock hour. Noah's mother noticed he was missing around 10:30 a.m., and crews began the search at 11 a.m.

Burke said the amount of time that passes between when a person is last seen and when the person is reported missing is critical. In the case of a child, the distance covered in one amount of time could be a lot different than the distance covered in different amount of time.

In Thomas's case, the amount of time between when he was last seen and when he was reported missing is about three hours.
