This is beyond gut-wrenchingly sad.

BEYOND TRAGIC … MOTHER AND TWO CHILDREN STILL MISSING AND PRESUMED DEAD …

Laura McComb and her two children, 6 year old Andrew McComb and 4 year old Leighton McComb are still missing following the massive floods that hit Texas over the Memorial Day weekend. They were among 12 people who went missing as the vacation home in Wimberly, Texas, was ripped from its foundation in the rapid flood waters of the Blanco River. Jonathan McComb, was pulled from the floodwaters and taken to a San Antonio hospital for treatment. The McCombs were with Ralph and Sue Carey along with their daughter, Michelle Charba, her husband Randy and their 4-year-old son, Will. All are still missing. Say a prayer for the missing and their family.

Missing woman to sister: ‘We are floating in a house’

http://kxan.com/2015/05/24/family-of-former-nueces-county-commisioner-missing-following-flood/

Quote
Julie Shields said she was on the phone with her sister, Laura, when their cabin was swept away.

“We are floating in a house that is now floating down the river,” Laura told Shields on the phone. “Call mom and dad. I love you, and pray.”

Those were the last words Shields had with her sister.

“My sister will always be my sister,” Shields added.

The conversation ended when Laura thought she saw a light from a helicopter that was there to rescue them.

“And I just expected to go to Wimberley High School the next day and find her,” said Shields. “When she wasn’t there, I knew something was very, very wrong.”

Texas mom, two kids among those missing after floods

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/26/us/severe-weather/index.html

Quote
The McComb family is not giving up hope.

Laura and Jonathan McComb and their two children -- Leighton and Andrew -- were at a cabin in Wimberley, Texas, on Saturday night when the skies opened, dumping record-breaking rains. Water soon swept the house downstream. Jonathan McComb was found, but the whereabouts of his wife and children remain a mystery.

"We never lose hope," said his father, Joe McComb. "But I think reality is setting in that there is probably a good chance that it might not be the outcome we're hoping for. But you never give up hope."

He said he suspects a loose tree fell and knocked his family's cabin off its pilings, eventually causing it to be swept downriver.

At least 31 people have died as a result of the storms that have ravaged parts of Texas, Oklahoma and northern Mexico since the weekend.

And 13 people are still missing, including 11 in Hays County -- not far from the Texas capital of Austin. The other two missing are an elderly couple in Houston, the mayor's spokeswoman said.

2 more identified in Hays County, 6 still missing
May 29, 2015

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — Jonathan Andrew McComb’s body was found Wednesday along the Blanco River near Water Park Road, just outside Wimberley, Hays County officials confirmed in a Friday news conference.

Officials later identified 73-year-old Ralph Hugh Carey as the man search crews found dead Thursday amongst flood debris near Fox Road in San Marcos.

“As you can imagine, our family is absolutely devastated,” Carey’s family said in a statement. “We thank you for your incredible support, love and prayers at this difficult time.”

The number of people missing following flooding in Hays County now stands at six, including Jonathan’s 4-year-old sister, Leighton, and mom, 34-year-old Laura Schultz. Andrew’s father, John McComb, was released Thursday from Brooke Army Medical Center after being pulled from floodwaters over the weekend.

Four other deaths have been confirmed as a result of the floods that ravaged Wimberley and other parts of Hays County. They include Jose Alvero Arteaga-Pichardo, 29; Michelle Marie Carey-Charba, 43; and Dayton Larry Thomas, 74. Hays County officials said one other body has been found, but authorities have not yet identified that person.

Search crews are scouring more than 6,000 acres on either side of the river in Blanco, Hays and Caldwell Counties looking for those still missing.

Those still missing include:

Sue McNeil Carey, 71, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
William Randall Charba, 42, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
William Charba, 6, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
Laura Schultz McComb, 34, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
Leighton McComb, 4, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
Kenneth Reissig, 81, last seen near FM 32 and RM 473
Blanco County officials also said they are still looking for four people there who may have been swept away by floodwaters over the weekend. No names or photos of those  missing in Blanco County have been released.

County officials are still asking landowners not to burn brush piles along watersheds until they have been searched by recovery crews. This excludes brush piles created by landowners.

“This will aid in recovery of victims, as well as heirlooms and valuables lost in the flood,” Hays County officials said in a news release. “In other words, if the river piled it, don’t burn it. If you created the pile, you may burn it.”

Woman’s body recovered in Hays County
May 30, 2015

A recovery crew found the body of a woman on the banks of the Blanco River Saturday, bringing the total number of bodies found so far in Hays County after the Memorial Day weekend flood to seven, county officials said.

The body, which has not yet been identified, was near Lime Kiln and Water Tower roads. It is not yet known whether the body belongs to one of the six people that are still missing in Hays County, officials said.

Another body found May 28 near the Blanco River at the Hays-Blanco County line is also awaiting identification.

The other bodies recovered in Hays County earlier this week include some members of a group of Corpus Christi families staying in Wimberley: 73-year-old Ralph Carey, 6-year-old Andrew McComb and 43-year-old Michelle Carey-Charba, Ralph Carey’s daughter.

Still reported missing from the Corpus Christi group are 71-year-old Sue Carey, 42-year-old Randy Charba and his six-year-old son Will, and 34-year-old Laura McComb and her 4-year-old daughter Leighton.

Jonathan McComb, Laura McComb’s husband, was found after the flooding and briefly hospitalized in San Antonio.

The bodies of 74-year-old Dayton Larry Thomas and 29-year-old Jose Alvaro Arteago-Pichardo have also been recovered.

Kenneth Reissig, an 81-year-old, is also reported as missing by Hays County.

Hays County officials said eight bodies have been recovered after the Memorial Day weekend floods. Three of which, two adult females and one adult male, have yet to be identified.

Volunteers are still searching for 71-year-old Sue Carey, 42-year-old William Charba, 6-year-old William Charba, 34-year-old Laura McComb, 4-year-old Leighton McComb and 81-year-old Kenneth Reissig.

Johnathan McComb was staying with his family and friends in Wimberley when the flood lifted the house off its stilts and swept it down the Blanco River. Johnathan was separated from his family and rescued. His 6-year-old son died in the flood and his wife and daughter are still missing.

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — Hays County officials are still waiting on positive identification on three bodies they recovered from the flood ravaged area last week. Six people are still listed as missing.

“We’re still asking landowners to please refrain from burning debris that has not been searched,” reiterated Kharley Smith, Hays County Emergency Management Coordinator. “It inhibits the ability for our first responders from effectively doing their searches.”

Those still missing include:

* Sue McNeil Carey, 71, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
* William Randall Charba, 42, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
* William Charba, 6, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
* Laura Schultz McComb, 34, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
* Leighton McComb, 4, last seen in area of Blanco River at 100 Deer Crossing Lane
* Kenneth Reissig, 81, last seen near FM 32 and RM 473

Residents who are staying in the affected area also need to boil their water.

“We are still under a boil water notice for those affected areas that are not on municipal water sources. If you’re on well water or outside of the City of Kyle, City of San Marcos water source, then you’re still under a boil water notice,” explained Smith.

One week after the floods, officials still want people to know that the City of Wimberley still needs its visitors.

“We want to make sure that everyone is aware that Wimberley is still open for business. They have local busineses there that have not been affected by the flooding. They welcome you to come to their area,” said Smith.

If you are visiting the area — whether as a volunteer or as a visitor — drivers are asked to take alternate routes since Ranch Road 12 bridge is still a one-way bridge at this time.

Deceased:

* Jose Alvero Arteaga-Pichardo, 29, found on May 26 along RR 2325 in Wimberley
* Michelle Marie Carey-Charba, 43, found on May 27 in Caldwell County
* Dayton Larry Thomas, 74, found on May 24 in Wimberley
* Andrew McComb, 6, found on May 27 in Wimberley
* Ralph Hugh Carey, 73, found on May 28 near Fox Road in San Marcos
