Chesapeake police confirmed Thursday remains were found of a woman who had been missing since May.

Police said they received a call around 11 a.m. May 31 about possible animal or human remains near the 4000 Block of Douglas Road in Chesapeake. With the assistance of the medical examiner’s office, the remains were identified as 43-year-old Brianna Armstrong.

Armstrong was reported missing from Virginia Beach May 9. She was last seen around 7:30 p.m. May 7 at her home on Mark Street, in the Providence Terrace neighborhood of Chesapeake. Police say Armstrong told someone she was going to go to Virginia Beach, but never made it to her destination.

On May 13, Virginia Beach police found Armstrong’s car abandoned in a retail parking lot in the 500 block of Newtown Road, near Baker Road. When the car was found, the keys were in the ignition, the doors were unlocked and Armstrong’s wallet and shoes were recovered. Chesapeake police say the vehicle remains in their impound lot, where it will be searched and vetted, as part of their investigation.
