Pregnant Woman Disappears in North Carolina on Delivery Date

by Elizabeth Chuck

A pregnant North Carolina woman vanished the morning she was supposed to deliver her baby, stumping worried family members who are frantically searching for her.

Carrie Bradshaw-Crowther, 49, disappeared at about 5 a.m. ET Tuesday morning from her Salisbury, North Carolina, home, an hour before a scheduled C-section, said her daughter, Lauren Lusk.

Lusk, 26, told NBC News that she had spent the weekend with her mom, helping her prepare for the birth of the baby. On Tuesday morning, Bradshaw-Crowther told Lusk to go fill up the car with gas before they set off for the 40 minutes to Charlotte for her delivery.

"When I got back, she was gone. The lights in the house were off, the door was unlocked," Lusk said.

Bradshaw-Crowther's car was also missing. Lusk called the hospital where she was supposed to deliver and police checked other local hospitals. She wasn't at any of them.

But Drew Bradshaw, Bradshaw-Crowther's brother, said they were still searching Saturday for her and working on a lead.

Lusk said one call was made from Bradshaw-Crowther's cellphone 20 minutes after she went missing, six blocks from the house. She was spotted at a gas station in Statesville, about 25 miles from Salisbury, and stayed in a hotel there the night she went missing, Lusk said.

The baby's father hasn't heard from Bradshaw-Crowther either, and was headed to the hospital when she went missing, Lusk added.

Lauren Lusk says its uncharacteristic of her mother, Carrie Bradshaw-Crowther, to just disappear. But her family believe that’s exactly what happened.

Bradshaw-Crowther, 49, a native of Salisbury, has been missing since Tuesday morning. She is nine months pregnant.

Lusk said she drove into town on Saturday with her wife, Shelbi, to prepare the house for the baby.

They “hung out” and helped her mother get ready before for Tuesday appointment, when she was scheduled to have a C-section at a Charlotte hospital.

Police said Crowther could be traveling in a champagne-colored 2001 Mazda MPV. The van has a Kansas tag number: QKP711.

Police confirm that Crowther was last seen at a convenience store in Statesville. During a Channel 9 interview with Lusk on Friday, one of the investigators showed up at the home to get written statements.

Lusk said the baby’s father has not heard from her either. Authorities said she could possibly be enroute to the Linville Gorge area.

Anyone with  information on Bradshaw-Crowther's whereabouts is asked contact the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.

Missing pregnant woman found in Boone

Published 2:19 pm Monday, June 8, 2015

A pregnant Salisbury woman who was missing for several days has been found in Boone.

Carrie Bradshaw-Crowther, 49, was reported missing last Tuesday and located by the Watauga County Sheriff’s Department at 1:15 p.m. today. A news release from the Salisbury Police Department said Bradshaw-Crowther used her ATM card at a CVS store in Boone. Police were immediately notified, according to the news release. She was nine months pregnant when she went missing.

A news release said the Watauga County sheriff’s deputy pulled beside the van without activating his lights. Bradshaw-Crowther got out of the vehicle and said “I am Carrie,” according to the news release.

She was subsequently taken to Watauga Medical Center for evaluation. The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office said it couldn’t provide any additional information because of medical privacy laws.

Looks that way Klaas, but then there is the statement from the family below. She is alright but what about the baby? She was 9 months pregnant and then nothing?

So was she ever pregnant, was she faking it? I understand the family wants to fall back on HIPPA laws, but where is the baby? Either its dead or it never existed. Which is it? One would mean this woman has issues, the other would mean she may have committed a crime.

My best guess and I am hoping that she lied about the whole thing and when the time came to deliver, she freaked out under the pressure of the lie.

Family of missing woman from Salisbury found in Boone releases statement

"The family of Carrie Bradshaw-Crowther would like to share their sincere appreciation to the overwhelming number of people who so willingly, through kind and caring hearts expended their time, efforts and prayers, to help us locate someone we love dearly. Carrie is presently hospitalized and is receiving much needed medical care," Drew Bradshaw, Carrie's brother said.

Bradshaw continued, "The compassion shown by so many people, many who do not know Carrie, is the same compassion we know Carrie shows to others daily. She is, and has always been a very loving person whose family is her world, and without hesitation, she puts herself second to anyone in need."

"While it is unfortunate, we no longer expect a new addition to our family and ask for your continued prayers. We respect the HIPPA laws and we feel that releasing any more information should be in Carrie's discretion after she has the opportunity to heal," Bradshaw wrote.

"We will forever be thankful for the professionalism shown by the Salisbury Police Department, the officials in Watauga County, the Watauga County hospital personnel, and for the various news agencies that assisted," the family statement concluded. "Our hearts are now with the many missing persons who are still unaccounted for, and the families who have not been as fortunate in finding their loved ones as we were. We thank God for the wonderful people on social media who connected with us, and who we know will continue to share love and support to those in need."

No Charges Against Woman Who Vanished Before C-Section, But Unanswered Questions Remain
June 11, 2015

Police declined to file criminal charges against a woman in North Carolina who vanished last week hours before she was scheduled to have a C-section -- only to reappear days later, but with no baby.

While Carrie Bradshaw-Crowther was found safe, numerous unanswered questions remain about her disappearance, including why she left, where she’d been and what happened to a possible baby.

The 49-year-old disappeared June 2 with her wallet, cell phone and van, relatives said, but she left behind her purse and suitcase. While her reported pregnancy was considered high-risk, her family said they had no reason to suspect anything had been wrong.

Bradshaw-Crowther’s disappearance set off a frantic search. Police searched nearby hospitals, to no avail.

Investigators finally found her Monday, after she used her ATM card at a CVS store 90 miles away from home.

In a statement, Drew Bradshaw, Bradshaw-Crowther’s brother, said she is “receiving much-needed medical care.” He further discussed the situation with ABC affiliate WSOC.

“I can’t tell you more than that," he said. "All I can say is we’re not expecting any new addition to the family."

Yep, sounds like she faked the pregnancy.  Maybe she was pregnant but had a miscarriage and couldn't bring herself to tell anyone?  Sad no matter how you look at it except she has been found and is getting whatever treatment she needs.
