Family members, law enforcement sources: Lonzie Barton’s mom is pregnant

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Family members and multiple law enforcement officials tell Action News Jax that the mother of missing toddler Lonzie Barton is pregnant.

Lonna Lauramore Barton is currently in the Duval County Jail on charges of child neglect and giving false information to police. She is also facing drug charges in Baker County.

O M G

Just when I thought they couldn't make me any more sick...

So were they just making room for Ebron's baby?  It must have already been awfully crowded in that bedroom!

Poor little Lonzie.  Video of her shooting up in September doesn't bode well for the baby she's expecting either imo.  If it survives, will her mother raise it too?

Justice for Lonzie!

Yes indeed, Thank you!

Wow, just wow.

I've been stuck on one of the videos for a while now.  OMG, the things going through my head right now!

The pictures...blood splatter on the walls and door, blood on the car?  Fresh concrete on the tires?

And all of this is AFTER they've cleaned up?!!!

Poor little Lonzie.

Start watching at the 9 minute mark.

Sure did look like Wanda Ebron (to me) on surveillance video outside of the apartments (maybe even talking to Lonna?) many hours before Lonzie was reported missing...

Anyone know what kind of cars the Ebron's were driving at that time?

Ruben Ebron’s mother offered to let police search her home

By Amanda Warford

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

On Day 6 in the search for 21-month-old Lonzie Barton, police expanded their efforts even further.

Hackney said crews have covered more than 2,500 acres and 40 bodies of water since Friday.

Now, he said, new evidence is leading them more than 15 miles away from where Lonzie was first reported missing.

Police are now looking for information that puts Ebron in the area east of Interstate 95 to the beach, and along the Trout River north to Nassau County, between Thursday night and Friday morning.

Latest News Headlines from Action News

"It’s very, very, very good information that’s leading us there," Hackney said.

That area of Duval County is made up mostly of marsh and water, but it is also home to Ebron’s parents.

"It makes perfect sense to go to areas he’s familiar with, he grew up in," said Action News Law and Safety Expert Dale Carson.

While police have not said exactly what’s leading them there, Carson said police likely have more than a tip.

"That window of time, he could’ve driven all the way to Orlando and back. What we’re likely basing his presence here in Jacksonville on is his statements and the pinging of his cellphone."

Ebron’s parents declined to go on camera Wednesday evening, but his mother Wanda told Action News that she was preparing to visit him in jail.

She said she saw Lonzie with her son early last week when they came for a visit, but said she did not speak to her son at all on Thursday. She added she has never met Lonzie's mother, Lonna Lauramore.

I know, my heart sank the first time I watched that part.  It was almost ceremonial the way the tub was loaded and that car pulls out and comes around like they were waiting.  Wondering who was in that car?

But then looking at the evidence pictures, Ruben had two air fresheners hanging in the trunk of his car.  That made me go hmmm.
If she moved the body what's the odor in his trunk?  He obviously wasn't concerned with how tidy it was otherwise.

I'm trying to get Thanksgiving dinner together!  Sure wish I had hours to pour over more of the evidence, and wish I'd watched more closely.  I bet there's video out there somewhere of cars parked at their home or them in their cars...  His ex girlfriend and mother of his three children lives with him and comes to court with them?  She's beautiful.  What's she doing with them?  I've developed some opinions about Wanda just in the little I've seen of her, and her taking over and trying to clean up her baby's mess wouldn't surprise me at all.  jmo

DNA evidence proves Lonzie's 'dad' -- isn't
Anne Schindler, First Coast News 10:18 p.m. EST December 3, 2015

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Despite the mystery surrounding the July disappearance of Lonzie Barton, one thing seemed certain: the identity of his parents. Lonna Barton was his mother, and Chris Barton was his father.

While he was a presence in Lonzie's life, DNA evidence in the case obtained by First Coast News suggests Chris is not the child's "biological" father.

"This person is not the father of that child," says Nancy Peterson, a former Florida Department of Law Enforcement specialist and DNA/forensics expert witness who reviewed the data. According to Peterson, the DNA profiles of Lonzie, his mother Lonna, and Chris Barton contravenes Chris Barton's own sworn statement, police reports, court records – and the claims of the boy's mother.

"He's definitely eliminated from being the father," she told First Coast News.

DNA profiles consist of 16 alleles -- groups of two numbers that represent specific gene patterns. One number matches the mother, and the other matches the biological father. If more than three of the 16 don't match, paternity is excluded – definitively. In the case of Chris Barton, 9 did not match.

The state also collected DNA from Lonna's then-boyfriend, Ruben Ebron -- the man police consider the chief suspect in the boy's disappearance -- and the couple's landlord. According to Peterson, the DNA is conclusive on them as well. "These three males are not the father of this child. Period."

First Coast News is unable to see who is listed on Lonzie's birth certificate because those are exempt from Florida's public records law.

Hear Ruben Ebron questioned by police
State Attorney's Office releases video, audio evidence in Lonzie Barton case

Updated: 7:52 AM, December 05, 2015

ACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The state attorney’s office released video and audio Friday of Ruben Ebron and Lonna Barton in the first hours after21-month-old Lonzie Barton was reported missing.  Some of the video shows Ebron and this girlfriend at the time, Lonna Barton, in an iinterrogation room at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

At first, Ebron appeared very calm, recounting the events leading up to Lonzie’s disappearance. Once the questioning turns to drugs or holes in his story, Ebron appear to become frustrated.

Ebron said at point he and Lonna Barton are sitting in the room together and he told her that he wanted to leave and wait for investigators to call.

“We cooperated from the jump. From the gun,” Ebron told detectives. “Its (expletive) 11 something. That’s what, nine hours? What the (expletive) are we not cooperating? Now when you’re ready to leave and they say they need to get in touch with you, OK, we have a phone. You have phone numbers to get in contact with us.”

Ebron eventually told the detective that he feels his story is being twisted around and he would, “rather have a lawyer.”

Ebron: “What’s actually going on?”
Detective: “I’ve got a child missing. I’m worried about that child’s life. You’re worried about your rights.”
Ebron: “No, I’m worried about what’s actually going on. You guys ain’t telling me nothing.”
Detective: “You should be worried about that child.”

During Lonna Barton's investigation, a detective accuses her of lying and not saying everything she knows about what happened to Lonzie.

"I have no reason to harm my baby, or anything like that," she said. "If I knew where he was, I would (have) done (expletive) said something. Yeah, I (expletive) up by not calling and tell you..

In one call to Ebron in jail, his mother tells him, "We have to find that child. We have got to find that child."

Ebron's mother said that his parents are supporting him.

His father tells him that they need closure on the case, and that Lonna Barton supports him and doesn't believe Ebron would harm Lonzie.

News4Jax is reviewing many more videos and audios released Friday, including the police interrogation of Lonna Barton from the same night as Ebron’s interrogation.

JSO to Ebron: ‘You’re gonna have to tell where that body’s at’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Newly released documents show the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office working hard to convince Ruben Ebron to reveal the location of Lonzie Barton’s body.

Ebron has pleaded not guilty to charges of child neglect, lying to police and evidence tampering surrounding the disappearance of 21-month-old Lonzie Barton, who disappeared July 24.

The toddler has not been seen since despite a massive search involving hundreds of square miles around Jacksonville. In an interrogation three months after Lonzie vanished, JSO detectives can be heard repeatedly asking Ebron to tell them where the toddler’s body might be located.

In the tapes, JSO detectives are frustrated that a body has not been found and tell Ebron, “You’re gonna have to tell where that body’s at.” JSO detectives told Ebron, “That body has got to be found regardless. It’s already [known] that you know where that body’s at.”

“[You] making up lies and making us chase red herrings, man, you made that decision,” a JSO detective can be heard saying. “You’ve got a big hill to climb and you’ve got to start giving presents. Give me something to take back to [Assistant State Attorney Richard Mantei].”

In the tapes, JSO can be heard assuring Ebron that they — and prosecutors — can be trusted. As the interview came to a close, they can be heard asking Ebron again to lead them to a body and telling him that they are prepared to testify in court, saying “[We] look good in suits.”

“[We] know we have a dead baby somewhere, and we are allowed to say that baby is dead,” a JSO detective can be heard saying. “Your silence hurts you more than it helps you.”

The tapes show that JSO believes Ebron — at the very least — hid Lonzie's body.

“If you didn’t kill him, then you have no reason to hide anything except for the fact that you hid him,” a JSO detective can be heard saying.

Documents suggest Lonzie dead before reported abduction

9:10 a.m. EST December 5, 2015

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Court documents released Friday reveal stunning new details in the state's case against Ruben Ebron, including suggestions that missing toddler Lonzie Barton died before Ebron reported him missing back in July.

Several days before his disappearance, Lonzie was drooling blood, had a head injury and was unable to eat, Ebron recalled, according to a police report. But, he told police, no one took the toddler to see a doctor.

In the hours after the toddler went missing, a cadaver dog searching the exterior of Ebron's car "indicated a positive response to the presence of the odor of decomposition" along the driver's side of the vehicle," according to a separate report.

Those details surfaced in hundreds of pages of incident reports, phone recordings and police interviews that became public record this week as part of the discovery process in the criminal case against Ebron. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office considers Ebron, 32, -- who has been romantically linked with Lonzie's mother, Lonna Barton -- the chief suspect in the child's disappearance.

The court documents also underscore the emphasis investigators have placed on the contents of storage units rented by Ebron. His pass code was used to enter Atlantic Self Storage on Powers Avenue about 12:40 a.m. and exit the facility about 12:50 a.m. July 24, according to an incident report.

In the days leading up to his disappearance, Lonzie was behaving strangely, had no appetite, was bleeding from the mouth and had a "soft spot" at the crown of his head, Ebron told police in October. In the same interview, Ebron acknowledged that he and Lonna Barton avoided seeking medical attention for Lonzie because they didn't want the Florida Department of Children and Families to get involved.

When Ebron called police to his apartment July 24, he and [redacted] noticed "blood on their bed sheet" from Lonzie's drool, saying "they tried to hide the blood by folding the sheets over hoping the police would not find the blood," according to an incident report. At one point, he also allegedly acknowledged lying about the abduction.

Ebron implored investigators to hear his side of the story, saying he wanted "this to end today." Pressed about what happened to Lonzie and the whereabouts of his body, Ebron nodded his head at one point, appearing to acknowledge that Lonzie was dead before [redacted] went to work, the report said.

Ebron, who became "visibly upset and was crying," told investigators they needed to see cell phone pictures he took of Lonzie "an hour before" [redacted] went to Wacko's. Ebron said detectives would be able to see in those pictures, which showed the front and profile views of Lonzie, that "something was wrong with" him, according to the report. But, Ebron told investigators, he had scrubbed the pictures from his phone before police arrived.

Before [redacted] went to work, Ebron told her that he would no longer watch Lonzie for her anymore "indicating she was taking advantage of him," he told investigators.

I read several pages of the texts today.  Wow.  Speaks volumes.

Documents: Ebron’s mom called him 'a pathological liar' a month before Lonzie’s disappearance

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Documents released by the State Attorney's Office reveal an apparent tense text message exchange between Ruben Ebron, the prime suspect in toddler Lonzie Barton's disappearance, and Ebron's mother Wanda.

The text message conversation happened in June, just before Lonzie disappeared on July 24. At the beginning of the exchange, a person listed as Wanda Ebron talked about Ebron apparently wrecking her car and injuring someone.

"I don't hate you; I despise your stupidity, and lack of remorse for your behavior," Wanda Ebron wrote on June 15 at 1:20 a.m., listed on the transcripts as 5:20 a.m. UTC, according to the documents.

Ebron apparently responded in two text messages at 1:23 a.m. and 1:24 a.m. that same day, texting, "Don't blame everybody else you need to go into the bathroom look in the mirror and honestly blame yourself ... "

At 1:36 a.m., Wanda Ebron texted back, saying, "You should look in the mirror also" and calls him "a Pathological liar, and a Sociopath."

Ebron texted back at 1:43 a.m., saying "All you do is like to talk about everybody else and trying to be negative about everybody else it's all about everybody else's problems and look what karma did... it came around full circle and hit u square in the forehead ... "

Nearly an hour later, Wanda Ebron makes apparent reference to Ebron's May 30 drug arrest in Baker County. During the arrest, Ebron was pepper-sprayed after trying to get out of his handcuffs and while in the patrol car, "kicking the rear door hard enough to break the seal on the door," according to the Baker County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Wanda Ebron wrote, in part, at 2:41 a.m.: "Oh yea, you should get about 10 to 15 years out of this 'Racially' motivated arrest. Oh! Forgive me, the Police probably planted the dope on you-- sorry, wrong, place and wrong time. Oh! U were the only Black and they Pepper-sprayed you; ... by the time you get out; Karma won't even be used in the dictionary-LOL."

The transcripts do not show a response from Ebron to his mother after this text message. The records show Wanda Ebron texted him a week later, telling Ebron he should change his name (his father is named William Ruben Ebron Sr.) and challenges his love for his children.

On June 22 at 6:56 p.m., Wanda Ebron's text to her son included the following: "You go on Facebook telling everyone how much your children mean to you, but you fail to disclose that your undying love is contingent upon your control over their mother. Since social media is such a great platform for discussion, let's put it to the people. What's your character?"

A month later in the early morning hours of July 24, Ebron reported his car was stolen with his girlfriend Lonna Lauramore Barton's son Lonzie inside. Texts from that day and the day before make no mention of the toddler.

Ebron's hearing on suppression of texts scheduled for 2016

December 16, 2015

A Duval County judge ruled the deadline to file any new motions will be Dec. 28.

Ebron also has a hearing set for Wednesday, Jan. 6 after his public defender filed documents Friday saying Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detectives illegally searched Ebron's cell phone while he was in police custody.

The joint trial date for Barton and Ebron has been scheduled for Monday, Jan. 11 and the final pretrial hearing will be Thursday, Jan. 7.

Ebron and Lauramore Barton will wait til 2016 for next hearings; trial scheduled for Jan. 11

The pair will be tried in the same courtroom with two separate juries Jan. 11, although Lauramore Barton’s attorneys have expressed doubt they will be ready by then, and attorney Kevin Carlisle has previously said he has other trials scheduled to go that week.

Prosecutors want to introduce evidence of previous crimes Ebron has committed during the trial, as well as text messages he sent during that time period. Defense attorneys object to introducing that into the trial, and Circuit Wednesday, Judge Mark Borello set a Jan. 6 hearing to determine whether that information will be allowed.

Ebron’s cellphone records the night Lonzie went missing suggest he was on the move and possibly selling drugs.

Ebron has also been arrested several times for drugs and false checks. In an interview with police before she was arrested Lauramore Barton told police that Ebron sold drugs.

He also was convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery related to a 2011 case when he was accused of beating his ex-girlfriend while she held their son. Three times that ex-girlfriend and her family have filed domestic violence injunctions against him, according to court documents.

That girlfriend has also accused him of rape, but Ebron has not been charged with that crime.
