Hmm, stories are differing ... Grandparents seemed to have been given temp custody.

Altiere spoke with reporter Jasmine Monroe Saturday morning outside Bristolville United Methodist Church that has been set up as a command post to coordinate the investigation into the disappearance of the child.

Altiere says the search is still on for the child who was last seen at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the State Route 45 home of her great grandmother, who authorities say has temporary custody of the little girl.

The Sheriff says he is talking with the great grandparents inside the church and that they have been very cooperative.

Altiere says that Rainn's Mother, Brandi Bennett was out with a friend at the time of the disappearance.

That differs with what Bennett, told 21 News  Friday night when she said she was at work and her grandmother was watching her three children. The great grandmother was upstairs doing the dishes. She called for the children to come up for dinner but, Rainn was nowhere to be found.

Bennett says her two sons, ages 3 and 4, said that Rainn had gone upstairs but, the grandmother never saw her.

"We can't find her anywhere. We looked everywhere, in the house, outside and I just hope that if anyone finds her they please call us as soon as possible because she is two years-old and she's little and she's out there all alone," said Bennett.

More than half a dozen cruisers from the Sheriff's Department were at the great grandparents home for most of the morning.  Some of the cruisers left the house shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Investigators from the Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation Crimes Against Children Unit arrived at the scene Saturday morning.  However, spokesperson for the Ohio Attorney General's Office, Jill DelGreco says that it has not been determined if there has been a crime committed.

Search to resume this morning for Trumbull County toddler

NORTH BLOOMFIELD, Ohio -

Searchers in Trumbull County scoured a portion of North Bloomfield all day Saturday, but spotted no trace of a two-year-old girl who has been missing since Friday evening.

The search for Rainn Peterson was suspended shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday, nearly two hours after sunset.

Authorities say search efforts for the little girl will resume before daybreak at 7 a.m.

The command center remained open throughout the night to process any new information.

The child was reported missing from the home of her great grandmother who had been watching the little girl for her mother.

The Ohio Attorney General has posted an alert for the child on its missing persons website saying that Rainn could possibly be either lost, injured or missing.

Because bad weather grounded a helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera, the search was limited to the ground on Saturday. Bloodhounds from the Columbus area are also part of the search effort.

Sheriff Tom Altiere tells 21 News that they are not looking for volunteers to join the search. He says authorities don't want to contaminate evidence in the area if it turns out to be a crime scene.

The Bristolville United Methodist Church has been set up as a command post to coordinate the investigation into the disappearance of the child

Altiere said that there are no signs of violence or forced entry at the Route 45 home of the child's great grandparents, where the tot was last seen.

The Sheriff says detectives have interviewed the grandparents and said that they have been very cooperative.

Polygraph experts from the FBI and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation were on the scene administering tests to relatives and others.

Sources tell 21 News that polygraph results corroborated the alibi of Rainn Peterson's father who is estranged from his wife.

Sheriff: Dog picks up scent of missing toddler

NORTH BLOOMFIELD, Ohio -

The search for a missing two-year-old got underway Sunday with a better weather forecast than the frequent rain that searchers endured on Saturday.

The sometimes drenching rain and cloudy skies prevented searchers looking for Rainn Peterson to use a helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera that can detect heat radiated by humans and other animal life.

Temperatures had dropped below fifty degrees as search efforts resumed this morning, but the experts predicted no chance of precipitation and highs in the mid-sixties through the daylight hours Sunday.

Active search efforts were suspended several hours after sunset Saturday but a command center at Bristolville United Methodist Church remained in operation throughout the night to gather and process any new information that may have come in.

Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere told 21 News Reporter Lyndsay McCoy on WFMJ Weekend Today that one of the search dogs picked up the scent of the missing tot on Saturday, but then lost the track.

Altiere hopes one of the four dogs taking part in the search today will be able to pick up the trail again down the street from the home where she was last seen.

The Sheriff also hopes to use mounted searchers as well, saying horses can cover more ground quickly and give riders a better vantage point from which to find the 24-pound girl.

Altiere says the size of the three-foot-tall girl is one of the challenges facing searchers. He says it could be difficult to spot the little girl in high grass or if she has fallen into one of the many tractor ruts on the farmland.

A large barn poses similar problems. The Sheriff says it could take five people several days to search every nook and cranny of the large structure.

Sheriff Altiere discouraged volunteers from joining the search saying that investigators need to preserve evidence in the area until it can be determined if a crime has been committed. As of Sunday morning, Altiere says there is no indication of criminal wrongdoing associated with the disappearance.

The search for Rainn Peterson began Friday evening shortly after her great grandparents reported that she had disappeared from their North Bloomfield home on State Route 45.

The two-year-old had been in the home with her two siblings when she was reported missing.

“She's two years old and goes to strangers. She goes to anybody. She is just an innocent little girl and she is lost and i don't know if she is cold or hungry,” Rainn’s mother Brandi Peterson told 21 News on Saturday.

Sheriff Altiere, who has been briefing the media about the disappearance and search, says that deputies searched the home three times and found no signs of violence or forced entry.

Investigators have administered polygraph tests, sometimes referred to as a lie-detector, to members of the missing child’s family.
