Now, there are reports that she called in sick on Wednesday.  How likely is it this dedicated employee called off sick and then went to train by running or hiking?

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Chief Richard Bowers revealed the fact that Nicole Mittendorff called out sick the very day of her disappearance, at a press conference on Wednesday.

Those close to her previously said she is 'extremely dedicated to her job'.

The chief urged the community to continue providing any information they might have on her disappearance to law enforcement.

'We remain hopeful and we continue to pray for Nicole and her family,' Bowers said.

Her family also wrote on Facebook that Nicole downloaded documents onto her cellphone before she went missing and that her wireless provider is now cooperating with the investigation.

Just what the documents include has not yet been revealed.

Search and rescue teams continue to comb the woods of Shenandoah National Park for signs of Nicole, whose car was found abandoned in a parking lot of the park Saturday night.

After an extensive six-day search for Fairfax County firefighter Nicole Mittendorff, search efforts have been suspended after officials reported a body was discovered in the Shenandoah National Park.

A spokeswoman for the National Park Service confirmed that search efforts were suspended after a body was found near White Oak Canyon trail, not far from where her car was parked. Friends and family had suspected that Mittendorff, an avid athlete, was likely running in the park.
