Nationwide Warrant for Man Accused of Kidnapping 13-Year-Old and her Newborn Son

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Police are asking the public for help finding a man suspected of abducting his 13-year-old stepdaughter and her 2-week-old son.

Investigators believe 39-year-old Christoper Derleth kidnapped Katherine Derleth and her newborn son, Christopher Ray Derleth.  The teen and her son were last seen Sunday at the home of a guardian in suburban Edwardsville, Illinois.

 

Police issued a nationwide warrant for Derleth’s arrest. It is believed that they are heading to West Virginia, where an Amber Alert is in effect.

The three may be travelling in a green, 1997 Mercury Villager minivan with the Illinois plate E833210.

Katherine E. Derleth is described as 4 feet 8 inches tall, 95 pounds, with brown shoulder length hair and brown eyes. She has three birthmarks on her right knee.

Her son, Christopher Ray Derleth, weighs eight pounds, three ounces and has brown hair and dark eyes.

UPDATED: Missing 13-Year-Old Has Heart Defect

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – (UPDATED 5 a.m.)  More information about the missing 13-year-old from Edwardsville and her newborn.

Katherine Derleth has a congenital heart defect and a pacemaker, and needs medical care. She is believed to be with her stepfather, 39-year-old Christopher Derleth, and her infant son, Christopher.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department says they could be hiding out at camp sights around the country and possibly sleeping in the stepfather’s car – a green 1997 Mercury Villager SUV. They were last seen in Virginia.

13-year-old and her baby found in rural West Virginia

A nationwide manhunt for a man accused of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl and her 22-day-old baby came to an end Saturday when the three were found in a rural area of West Virginia.

The Madison County Sheriff tells WKYC that 13-year-old Katherine Derleth and her three week old son Christopher are safely in police custody.
