Rhode Island police: Children kidnapped in 1985 found
by WJARTuesday, January 17th 2017

WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) - Rhode Island State Police said two children who were abducted by their mother in Warwick for more than 30 years have been located.
State police said Elaine Yates faces two counts of child snatching, and would be arraigned Wednesday morning in Rhode Island.
She was discovered living in Houston, Texas where her two daughters, Kelly and Kimberly Yates were also living.
Elaine is accused of abducting her children in August of 1985.
An anonymous tip received around Christmastime led to the succesful discovery of the mother and daughters.
Rhode Island State Police said both daughters were interviewed, and given the contact information of their father. Both appeared in good health.
"Obviously they were surprised," a spokesperson said.
Investigators did not know if the women had reached out to their father.
Kelly Yates is now 32, and Kimberly Yates is 35.
They were not with their mother at the time of her arrest.
A felony warrant for child snatching was issued for Elaine Yates on Nov. 16, 1988.
