Giant rabbit dies on United Airlines flight to United States
Reuters
April 26, 2017

The 10-month old rabbit named Simon, who was tipped to become one of the world's largest rabbits, was travelling to O'Hare in Chicago from Britain after a celebrity owner purchased him.

He was healthy before the flight, according to the rabbit's breeder.

"Simon had a vet’s check-up three hours before the flight and was fit as a fiddle," breeder Annette Edwards told The Sun newspaper. "Something very strange has happened and I want to know what."

Column: Stewing over the death of Simon the giant rabbit

John Kass   Contact Reporter   Chicago Tribune   April 26, 2017 5:47 PM

The untimely death of the beloved British giant rabbit Simon on a United Airlines flight has caused great heartbreak across the world.

Not everyone understands this. My anthropomorphic editor is outraged, thinking I've gone Hannibal the Cannibal on Simon, although Simon isn't human.

United Airlines' much-anticipated report on Flight 3411 is missing crucial details

Lewis Lazare  American City Business Journals  April 27, 2017

The document attempts to explain how it came to pass that David Dao was forcibly dragged down the aisle of Flight 3411 by Chicago Department of Aviation security officers and removed from the plane to make room for four Republic Airline crew members who needed to get to Louisville to operate another United Express flight the next day. Despite promising a full explication of what happened, United's fuller account today of the events surrounding that ugly United Express Flight 3411 incident still lacks crucial details that would show just how far short United may have fallen in satisfactorily handling the incident. The report does include a few pertinent new details that reveal how complicated matters became for the United personnel and passengers trying to deal with the situation as it rapidly unfolded on that fateful Sunday, April 9.

I understand there has been some policy changes since this incident.

United Airlines reaches 'amicable' settlement with passenger dragged from a plane
April 27, 2017

United Airlines has settled with Dr. David Dao over the injuries he received when he was dragged off one of the airline’s planes this month, a dramatic incident that has forced policy changes at United and rival carriers.

Under the terms reached by the airline and Dao, the amount of the settlement will remain confidential, Dao’s attorneys said.

His lawyers have said the 69-year-old Kentucky physician suffered a broken nose and a concussion and lost two front teeth during the April 9 incident, which was recorded on video that went viral worldwide. Video showed airport police at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport dragging a limp Dao off the crowded plane after he refused to give up his seat to make room for airline employees on the Louisville, Ky.-bound flight.

Delta employees threatened to put a couple in jail. Can they really do that?
By Abha Bhattarai  May 5 at 1:47 PM

1. Can you really be sent to jail for not listening to a flight attendant?

Possibly, says Gregory Winton, an attorney for the Aviation Law Firm in Annapolis.

According to U.S. law, airline passengers who interfere with the duties of a flight crew member or flight attendant by “assaulting or intimidating” them can be fined and imprisoned for up to 20 years. (If a “dangerous weapon” is involved, the passenger can be imprisoned for life.)

But the reality is a bit more complicated, Winton says: “Does having a heated conversation count as interfering with a crew member’s job? I suppose it could be construed that way, but the airline doesn’t have any authority to make those decisions.” Read more...
