Desperate hunt for three-year-old girl who vanished after being put to bed Sunday night

Authorities in North Carolina are desperately searching for a three-year-old girl who was snatched from her bed early Monday morning.

Kristy Woods says the last time she saw her daughter Mariah was at 11pm on Sunday night, when she put the girl to bed.

She says her live-in boyfriend saw the girl about an hour later, when she came out of her room and he told her to go back to bed.

When they went to check on her in the morning, she was gone.

A statewide Amber Alert was issued for the girl on Monday, but so far there have been no clues as to why she disappeared.

In a tearful address to reporters on Monday, the girl's mother seemed to believe someone had abducted her girl.
 
'Please, bring her back ... She's my baby, she's my everything,' the mother of three said. 'Just to be able to touch her and hold her and not let her go again. I'd give anything.'

Kristy Woods says that her daughter usually wears orthopedic braces on both of her legs and has trouble walking without them.

Amber Alert: Search for missing 3-year-old girl in Jacksonville enters second day

ACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The search for a missing 3-year-old girl in Jacksonville entered its second day Tuesday.

Mariah Woods is the subject of an Amber Alert after she went missing from her home on Dawson Cabin Road.

On Monday, crews spent all day searching the area and on Tuesday resumed their search with additional police units and assistance from the FBI.
 
The search is being conducted both by ground and by air with drones and helicopters.

In a Facebook post, the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said they have sufficient resources for continued searches but did give contact information in case someone spots the girl.

She says the last time she saw her daughter was around 11:00 p.m. Sunday when she went to check on her.

Family members said there was no sign of forced entry or anything wrong with Mariah’s room but did mention the back door was unlocked.

Once they realized Mariah was missing, Woods and her live-in boyfriend called authorities.

Dive teams were searching Southwest Creek in Onslow County, Meador said, which is about 3 miles away from where the family lives, ABC Raleigh-Durham affiliate WTVD reported.

Miller asked members of the community who are willing to comb through difficult terrain to meet at the Dawson Community Church Friday morning. The sheriff also advised potential volunteers that they need to be physically fit to endure four to six-hour searches, and to dress appropriate and bring snacks, water and identification for registration.

JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - An Onslow County dive team is continuing the search for missing 3-year-old Mariah Woods off of Highway 17 northbound this afternoon.
The team is set up over a bridge about a mile north of the Dawson Cabin Road intersection, several miles from Mariah Woods' home. There is also a wide area taped off.
Traffic is backed up due to the search. There are at least 10 Sheriff's Office vehicles and unmarked cars in the area and officers are directing traffic.

Earlier Wednesday, the FBI released surveillance photos of a woman and a little girl who matched Mariah's description, in hopes of identifying the pair.

The FBI later said the woman in the picture did not have any connection to their ongoing investigation to find Mariah.

Mariah’s family members in Floyd County are devastated by her disappearance and are pleading with whoever may have taken her to just bring her home safe. “We have been in some contact with the grandmother who is just as devastated and has been in tears every time we have spoken to her.” “She’s a wonderful little girl. We go out there every summer on vacation. We actually just saw her in July and she’s just a wonderful little girl.”

Mariah Woods, missing 3-year-old, believed dead; mother's boyfriend arrested

  Onslow County Sheriff investigators said they now believe Woods is deceased and the search is shifting to a recovery operation, CBS affiliate WNCN-TV reports. Officials have not located the girl. The FBI announced early Saturday that Earl Kimrey, 32, was taken into custody by sheriff's deputies Friday night in connection with the disappearance. He faces charges including concealing of death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, felony larceny, and possession of stolen property.

According to WNCN, Kimrey is the live-in boyfriend of Mariah Woods' mother Kristy Woods, who issued an emotional plea for her daughter's safe return on Tuesday.

Kristy Woods told WITN-TV in Greenville that she had last seen Mariah at 11 p.m. Sunday night when she checked on her. She said her boyfriend claimed to have seen the girl around midnight when she woke up and he told her to go back to bed.

Family members said there was no sign of forced entry or signs of a struggle.

Kimrey is being held at the Onslow County Detention Center on $1.01 million bond, WNCN reports.
