Tulsi Gabbard: 'Neocons' in Trump administration 'placed dynamite and lit the fuse' for war with Iran

By Charles Creitz - Fox News - June 27, 2018

Neoconservatives in the White House are setting up America for a potential military conflict with Iran unless President Trump intervenes, according to Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii.

Gabbard, a 2020 presidential candidate, claimed Thursday on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" that the president could be the deciding factor on the likelihood of war.

"The neocons in the Trump administration and Saudi Arabia and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu have created a situation where it is going to be very difficult for President Trump to avoid a war with Iran," she said.

U.S. Vows To Sanction ‘Any Imports of Iranian Crude Oil’

By Tsvetana Paraskova - Jun 28, 2019, 5:00 PM CDT

Now that there are no sanction waivers for Iranian oil buyers, the United States will sanction any imports of crude oil from Iran, the U.S. Special Representative for Iran, Brian Hook, said on Friday, reiterating comments he made last month amid reports that China has already imported its first crude oil cargo from Iran that breaches the U.S. sanctions.

“We will sanction any imports of Iranian crude oil,” Hook said in London, as carried by Reuters.

Last month, Hook said that the United States would sanction any country that tries to buy Iranian oil after the sanction waivers expired on May 2, regardless of whether said country had reached its negotiated cap under the exemptions, clarifying earlier comments that resulted in speculation that the U.S. would allow countries that hadn’t reached their cap of Iranian imports to continue buying oil from Iran until they reach that cap.

Memo to Trump: Trade Bolton for Tulsi
June 27, 2019 by Patrick J. Buchanan

“If she makes it into the second round, Gabbard could become the catalyst for the kind of globalist vs. nationalist debate that broke out between Trump and Bush Republicans in 2016, a debate that contributed to Trump’s victory…”

“For too long our leaders have failed us, taking us into one regime change war after the next, leading us into a new Cold War and arms race, costing us trillions of our hard-earned tax payer dollars and countless lives. This insanity must end.”

Japan used a colorful chart with pictures and a map to explain its US investments to Trump

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday presented US President Donald Trump with a colorful chart to explain Japanese investment in the US.

Trump is known to be averse to reading complex briefing documents and memos.

After his meeting with Abe, Trump praised the investments spelled out in the chart.

Using simple charts is a tactic that foreign leaders have used before with Trump.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker last year used colorful cue cards to explain global trade policy to the president.

The time Donald Trump’s empire took on a stubborn widow — and lost

OPINION

Trump is wrong about Iran. He needs approval from Congress for a military strike.
Congress must reassert its constitutional authority. This president could stumble into a conflict beyond his comprehension or ability to control.

Chris Edelson, Opinion contributor Published 3:00 a.m. ET June 28, 2019

American politics and governance are so dysfunctional at the moment that it’s possible President Donald Trump’s baseless claim that he has authority to take the country to war with Iran without congressional approval could pass by without challenge or real debate. That would be a serious, possibly disastrous, mistake.

The Constitution provides the president with limited authority to order the use of military force when the country faces an actual or imminent attack. Fortunately, that is not currently the case when it comes to Iran. Under the current circumstances, Trump would need congressional authorization to proceed with a military strike against Iran.

'A colossal mistake'
: GOP-controlled Senate votes down...

Deirdre Shesgreen and Christal Hayes

USA TODAY • June 28, 2019  3,600 Reactions

Snipped

Supporters said the battle would now move to the House, where Democrats hold the majority and have a similar measure in the legislative hopper. And they argued that Friday's vote still marked a significant step in pushing back against Trump's foreign policy.

“A bipartisan majority of the Senate today sent an important message to President Trump: you do not have a blank check to pursue another endless war in the Middle East," said Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer of New York.

As he left the Senate floor Friday afternoon, Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., agreed and added that it helps set up the House for success.

"We did not win on this vote but forced the vote to happen. We showed a majority of the Senate believes the president is not the king, and can’t go to war on his own," Kaine said, adding that it puts up some "guardrail against the president doing something stupid."

Watching this week for the House legislation. D.T. doesn't seem to know right from wrong, imo.

I hope the House will make a positive stand in time before the wannabe King makes his next move.

House votes to end US role in Yemen, poised to block Trump from launching Iran strike

Deirdre Shesgreen,
USA TODAY
Published 3:08 p.m. ET July 11, 2019 | Updated 3:38 p.m. ET July 11, 2019

WASHINGTON – The House approved a measure Thursday that would force President Donald Trump to end U.S. military support of Saudi Arabia's military operations in Yemen.

Next up is a proposal that would bar Trump from launching a military strike against Iran, which supporters predict will pass in a vote set for Friday.

The twin legislative actions represent a new level of congressional push back against Trump's foreign policy, as Democrats use their House majority to rebuke the president over his aggressive stance toward Iran and his cozy ties with Saudi Arabia.

Both amendments are being considered as part of a broader defense bill. The Senate approved its version of the defense bill last month without those contentious add-ons. The two chambers will have to reconcile the competing versions in the coming weeks.
