It's been out there all the time. Some people just don't want to think it could happen. But the farther we go the more I think it could be so.

So, what you're saying is that you concede that Joran van der Sloot is a maggot, but you don't exactly know what kind. Is that correct?

maybe joran owed someone at casino alot of money???

MSNBC's Martin Savidge reported tonight that the van der Straten / "godfather" connection was completely false.  So there's apparently no clear bias that contributed to the bungling - yippee!  No explanation for why gov't/ law enforcement didn't attack these reports themselves.  Perhaps they wanted to make sure that consistency was maintained and the sensible course was not taken.

The Aruban attorney commentator with Greta described Paulus' "waiver" of his familial privilege re: Joran.   She seemed to indicate that he could invoke his right not to testify at any time, for any specific question.  Doesn't sound like much of a waiver to me.

The vibe I got from that attorney/ commentator was that she felt the prosecution was going to have trouble meeting the burden for next Tuesday's checkpoint.  Nothing concrete about that.

The reporting on Texas Equusearch today - I noted the request for Dutch Marine assistance to make "one last push" - indicates that success for a blind search of this scope is a pipe dream.

I found Mickey's description of his arrest interesting.  Police and prosecutors bust in at dawn, ransack the place.  Kinda sounds like they went in like a bunch of cow... oh, never mind.

I gotta say..listening to Mickey John and watching this tonight .....even with all of our problems..and we've got 'em...I'm glad  I'm an american in america.....these guys (the guards) get arrested on suspicion...with no cause..which is what i think happened to mickey.....a national gets arrested like that....imagine what  would/might happen to one of us in a foreign domain accused of a crime...it's all too "midnight express" for me..but I dont think/matter of fact I am convinced, he (mickey) had anything to do with this at all..but it just scares me what can happen to you in foreign countries (AKA Natalee..what ever that turns out to be) and what  you might be subjected to by the hands of foreign justice systems..

Good point, you know something, I have travelled to a few foreign countries. I'm the type that investigates my vacation prior to departure. So much so that I go onto forums and find out what it is I am requiring in my vacation and my needs. I have went onto forums, dumb and niave. I get back from my vacation and go onto these forums again and find out exactly what you are saying gaijin. We MUST be careful travellers in a foreign country. We MUST NEVER think that things run the same as they do in our home country or state or province.

On that note, my eldest son wants to travel to mexico this fall...I've been there done that..read enormously of the negative things that happen by eyewitnesses from forums. How do I teach my son how to handle himself in a foreign country with alcohol involved?

Answer: Teach him how to roll up into fetal position and hold out his wallet.

 Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

Wink he's trying to be funny that professor!

but he does have a point, if you have money or a wallet which might have money, you can buy your way out of anything.

q.  is there a crematory on aruba?

Hey Brenda, I was going to do a cut and paste, but kept getting sidetracked by the new posts....

Anyway, in 2004,  a crematorium was started in Aruba.  I have no idea if this was ever completed, but the newspaper article I found said they needed money.

Interesting theory....appears it would hold up as well as lots of others posted here! Wink

Just a thought, and may have been mentioned already.

Natalee is on the plane on the way down talking to this nice tourist fella.  They chit chat and he asks alot of questions that seem generic to her, but not to him.  "Where from? What do you do? Why are you here?  What do your parents do?"

So he's the plant, she's the mark.  Info relayed to the VDS's.  Blonde girl from money.  Teenage group, yada yada yada....

JVDS seems to have shown up over the duration of the stay, as I recall reading of several MBHS kids seing him here and there.  He is observing.

When they decide to take her, JVDS is the one to lure, as he is of a common age, and then through whatever menas, transfers her to this person from the plane who has either never left the island  with her, or who did leave the island and took her with him.

Just a crazy way out thought.  Please be kind if I am stupid.

Interesting theory, but I don't think these kids are that sophisticated to plan something out like that.

I d say in order to make that work you would have to constantly have birddogs going to and fro the plane, so that would be suspicious and costly...since it would be costly you d have to kidnap an American tourist Oh, at least monthly..... however if there was a plant at the hotel then now you got something going..a front desk that checks the people in, knows arrival time and departure...looks for profile that fits profiel du jour, and contacts the facilatator...

Also wanted to clear up something:   Beth call 911 to try and get escort,,they did not, so she drove fast 100 mph and was highway patrol pulled her over and then escourted her.....

That 50 minutes. An area of beach just a bit out of the way...isn't that towards the end, where it's rough? Plenty of time. I think in every lie there is a grain of truth. The school official laid out a drowning scenario for Jug on like day two. There was some swimming mentioned by maybe Joran. I think he put her in the water.

There is no proof that anybody at the school made any comment about drowning, It is a rumour.

You are wrong there, I heard Jug say the school official told him that.

jug didn't talk to the school official.  it was his alabama buddies that went to the school to "put up posters" on campus and were stopped by the headmaster.  they were probably snooping around over there.  who are jug's "buddies".  they are the same ones who "interviewed" Joran.

Why are people saying that MBHS kids finished packing Natalee's bags?  Evidently, one student said this in an interview.

I thought Nat packed her own bags -- and Ed, the guy with Dash, told BO'R that their chaperones/facilitators had TOLD all of them to have their bags all packed the night before, so they'd be ready to go at first call.

Anybody know the truth of this?  I don't like the idea that somebody else finished packing her bags for her.

Itawamba - Probably seen a 100 responses to this by now, but I'm way behind!  My understanding plus speculation is probably that Natalee packed the majority of her own stuff before she left.  But, I did hear that her roommates finished packing her stuff.  I would assume that Natalee left some of her things out (a change of clothes, shampoo, makeup, etc.) because she would be taking a shower before she left to go home the next morning.

I heard one of her roomie's say that they assumed Natalee probably ended up sleeping in some other friend's room that night, and maybe overslept and was running late, so they put the rest of her stuff in her bag.

That's how I see it - though that just me assuming some things!

Who packed her passport? At one point, it was said by somebody that the chaperones collected all the passports when the group arrived in Aruba, and gave them back out when it was time for the plane.

Did the chaperone pack Natalee's passport, or did Natalee get hers back early or was that report incorrect and all the kids hung on to their own passports all week?

It is not that unusual for an AP student not to take the tests.  All schools do not require them to take the AP exam.  In some cases the student knows they will not pass it because of how they did on practice tests.

In other cases they may be going to a school that does not give AP credit.  I even recommmend for my students that if they are going to MAJOR in an area, it might be better to go ahead and take the college couse because an AP class may not align as well with a departments scope and sequence--in other words there may be things that college wants you to have been taught, that are different that the 'AP curriculum with is a rather general college level class.

However just because finals were the next week does not rule out taking exams.  I have been in one district that required nine weeks tests at the end of each quarter AND semester exams the very next week.  I thought it was stupid, but when you teach, you do what the school tells you to do.

Although faculty probably gets reduced tution, I would be surprised if it was totally free.  I have taught in private schools and it is rare for it to be free since other teachers see that as extra compensation.

High school tuition was listed at over 12,000 American dollars.  Family has two in high school.  Monetessori elementary was less, but I seem  remember it was 10,000.  That is a ton of mony.

Interesting for a middle income family.

Not really. Arubagirl guessed that Paul made about 55K, Anita has been teaching for a number of years and probably makes the same, I'll bet 50 bucks their house is paid for, I don't see why they couldn't afford this, I'm sure as an employee of the Dutch Govt, Paul has excellent benefits, probably including a certain amount of travel expenses to visit the NL.

VAN SUSTEREN: What's he like? I realize you're his mother, but what's he like?

ANITA VAN DER SLOOT: Joran is a very outgoing person. He's a sweetheart. To me, he's very warm. We spend Easter vacation in Florida together to visit his school, and we had a lot of fun together, went to Busch Gardens (search), and he was getting me cups of coffee and making jokes. He's very outgoing, loving, caring, fights with his brothers all the time, but I think that's pretty normal. We cannot get him out of bed in the morning to go to school, but once he's there, he's doing great. He got picked up on the morning of his graduation. He graduated with honor, all As and Bs. He did some AP, advanced courses, physics, calculus, AP English.

Taz according to the school website, they only offer a partial roster of AP classes.  They are tiny so that makes sense.  That means he would be taking a mixture of AP classes and regular ones.

I am not discounting this, I am just stating some facts. Median income on the island is 22k, both wage earners in the family being double, IMO would be huge.
