About that Aruba reticence to diagnose murder ...

Thanks to Getatrip

Death aboard a ship seems to be a criminal act
DIARIO Aruba
3/20/2006

ORANJESTAD (AAN): It seems that in Aruba, authorities immediately ‘guli manda abao’ [swallowed?] the story of the crew members of the ‘Rachel S’ ship, which arrived in Aruba the Sunday of Carnaval Grandi with a dead person on board.

There is a big possibility that the crew members ‘played a comedy’ which apparently turned bad, to cover up a possible crime that was committed on board.

The autopsy conducted in Aruba deduced that Bernard Ramsaran, 50 years of age, died of heart failure.

But now, an autopsy conducted in his country of Trinidad & Tobago, has deduced that Bernard died of something more sinister, ‘traumatic asphyxia’, which indicates that [he] was strangled and choked! His death is nothing natural! It is a crime which took place on the high seas and now Interpol is involved.

The question is, how could Aruban authorities not discover this? The Trinidad & Tobago authorities discovered that Bernard’s body even had several marks of violence. Last Saturday, he was buried in his town of Rio Claro.

Interpol’s first mission is to find two of the crew members who possibly ‘lied’ about things turning bad immediately to divert the Aruban authorities who apparently also fell in the trap. Again, a negative light is directed towards Aruba and its police force.

What about the 20-something young man found floating off shore soon after the unidentified dead female in the trash pile?  I believe this was reported in Diario.

Per Hotshot - this was a fisherman wrapped in a tarp.

ANNA and MSMARPLE:

I have made various notes over the course of the last year or so about strange terminal happenings in Aruba.  Pleae forgive me for not trying to go back and check out each of these to see if you already have them, but I am thinking you know what you have already and go thru this list much faster than I.  The reinventing the wheel thing, you know.

I have given links or whatever I have, but suspect many of the references have disappeared by now.  Here goes.

Juni Tromp knifed to death by C.E. M. on "beach" May 31, 2005.

There was a dead body in a boat reported on the Aruban blogs 6/20/05 but then I can't remember hearing anything further after that about this.

6/21/05, BonDia reported an attempted suicide

6/15/05, 30 year old woman commits suicide

7/30/04  Security guard suicide; see http://bb.visitaruba.com/archive/index.php/+-580.html

http://www.ops-oms.org.(several letters I can't read cause there is a hole in the paper)ite/aruba/aru-core-data_1999.htm which listed 2 suicides and 3 homicides

6/21/05, NativeLingo at SM posted re attempted suicide "not mentioned on MSM tonight" but on BonDia.

11/19/05, Sleuth noted personally witnessed aftermath 3 years ago of man jumping from roof of resort, and learned similar had occurred at Hyatt only weeks earlier.

6/15/05 American In Aruba reported "...30 year old woman that has just committed suicide...

Hope the above helps in some way.

Here is what Appeals links to in the above post:

well about three weeks ago I seen in the Diario a picture of a Aruba laying in the stree dead. About two weeks ago I seen in the Diario a picture of a white man laying on the beach with no shirt on, dead. Now today I see a report in the Diario of a white man found locked in a container dead. Now is this a safe island? Could one of them have known something about what happen to Natalee Holloway?

Comment by s. Hollwoay | November 19, 2005, 10:53 pm

Death is a Part of Life. Even in Aruba people Die Everyday…(Incredible?!?! HUH ??)

1. The guy lying on the Beach commited suicide.

2. About the second guy I do not have information right now. The investigation will have to take its course…

My condolences to families of these two persons…

DEM BONES

Hotshsot wants to inlcude the Bottomless Bone Drawer. I don't have good notes on these; ANYBODY ... ???

Bone    07/04/2005
Reportedly, an Aruban Coastguard Boat went out with several FBI divers to the wild sea on the north of the island. Supposedly there was a tip that NH’s body was dropped in a basket in that area. FBI personnel recovered a bone that resembles part of a human backbone. Bone supposedly was tested.

Bones   Summer 2005
Two different individuals found bones, reported to Aruba Polis.

I remember that one of the bones found was said to be a donkey bone ... not sure if that refers to any of the above. msmarple.

Bone   07/20/2005 Larry King Live
KING: Dave Holloway, does this at least give you some encouragement at closure?
DAVE HOLLOWAY: Well, for closure, yes, but you know we've had a lot of false hopes and you know maybe this is one that God's given us for closure. But you know, we've had everything from the empty grave to the barrel, to clothing and more clothing, to the bones, you know, and other things. And by the way, I did find out that one of those bones was a human bone, and it had been in there for at least two years. So I hope the authorities are at least searching, you know, for whatever missing person was several years ago.

Bone   08/10/2005 (est.)
Bone washes up on coast of Venezuela; found by dog walking with owner. Local (Venezuela) newspaper says it was a human femur (arm bone) with hand/fingers. A later report from Aruba says it was part of a mannequin; in D. Holloway’s book, he says he was told it was a “Halloween prop.”
Notes:
This finding occurred during the turbulent storm season of 2005.
Disastrous plane crash in Venezuela shortly after this finding.

Klaas - Among your many crowning achievements - Babblefishing (?) your way to the hearts & minds of that Venezuela newspaper for the ORIGINAL story ... possibly you could add the pix here?

The abduction was foiled by Battjer, who intercepted car w/ unconscious Scott in passenger seat, by running after vehicle and physically accosting Ramses.

The point of the story related shows that deviant behaviors have been part of the Aruban culture for quite some time, in this case dating back to January, 2004.

DEM BONES - Update 1

SunFreak2 posted on LCD 8/30/2006:
Arm bones - The still interconnected human bones of a woman’s forearm and hand was found washed-up on the VENEZUELA Las Piedras beach, near the town Punto Fijo (the southwest side of the VENEZELA peninsula nearest to the west coast of ARUBA, about 18 miles away), on 8-10-05.

BTW, it would be a humerus not a femur. Femur is the upper leg.

My bad. Should have left it at "arm bone" ...  Confused  msmarple

On 8/30/2006 LCD, Grande points me to this one:
Jennifer Fornaro - While snorkeling on 07/06/2005 about a “half-mile from the Marriott off Arashi beach,“ Fornaro discovered a bone in the ocean that she found “between 2 large rocks.” She describes the bone as being 3.5” to 5.0” long, larger at one end that was rounded “like a bone joint,” gray in color, and still had a “whitish tissue that was still meaty and flesh-like that was still attached to the bone.”

From Diario, October 29, 2005: Sospecho cu por ta trata di un weso humano WESO CU A WORDE HAYA PA TURISTA AWOR TA BAY HULANDA

From the previously discussed story of bones that were found near the Fisherman’s Hut.

It is suspected that it could be a human bone, Bone previously found by a tourist has now gone to Holland

ORANJESTAD (AAN): There has been a lot of criticism about the fact that a tourist found something resembling a human bone on the beach a little to the North of the Fisherman’s Huts and that after handing it over to police…he heard nothing more of it. A few American TV channels questioned this day and night and no one in Aruba wanted to give a response.

There are now details relating to this issue. It is now known that the bone was found around the boat Baboo II in Malmok. Apparently a person discovered the bone and had indications that it could be human.

The discovered bone was handed over to High Commissioner Ronnie Bernadina in connection to the disappearance of the American student, Natalee Holloway.
It is known that for some months there has been an investigation about the location of the American girl. Related to this, there have been a few detention while all of these suspects have now been set free.

The rest of the translation

From page 3 of the letter sent by the family to ALE (where they asked for the investigators to be replaced)

Art Wood states that Jacobs and Police Chief Dompig discarded potential evidence discovered near the lighthouse: belt and some plastic items. A shoulder bone with meat on it was found near the California lighthouse and discounted by Dennis Jacobs as a donkey bone. Art Wood contends that it is a human bone.
