EASY - I think Rob is assuming a launch area from closer to Lorenzo's house.  This one may be clearer to you as if the launch area was near Koen's house:

Geeze, it seems they need to search the whole ocean blue around ARuba.  Those A-holes know right where they put her.  Give her back to us, please.

There I asked nicely.

Because I do NOT know where the boat originated from I just included Lorenzo's to Koen's.

Savenata to Malmok.

Those maps are very confusing!  Are they upside down?

They are looking north to south... how do you want them? east to west, west to east, north to south, south to north, northeast to southwest, westnorthly to southeasterly? Laughing

just lemme know?

I can prolly do one from that SAT, but Aruba will be the dot is truly is...... LOL...

Most cartographers turn north toward the top of a page and rotate it counterclockwise as needed to fit the paper.  Just an excepted convention by most.

If I was basing a search on the theft of a fish trap, the location of that theft would be the origin point for developing a search grid.  Stealing the trap would have been an act of opportunity and convenience.

I can start over . . . Mike how far out do you think she is really?

If there is an indication that she is off the shelf that is more than prolly 5 miles... just looking at the images kinda indicates that the shelf is more than five miles out. For Tim to say she is in more than 1800 feet of water seems to be much further from Aruba.

except I am not a cartographer. I went north looking south. If I use the reverse, we will be looking at the ocean and Aruba in the background and it will seem off kilter.

Hmm....I always figured the combined weight of a fish trap and a human would be enough for it to sink. Of course, it is now obvious that I know absolutely nothing about that kind of thing.  Embarassed
