Don't know if any of you are interested but when I met the younger man guitar maker, Sam, I learned all about guitars. He took me to the NAMM show and I took 100 pics of guitars. If I can see a guitar close up, I can tell you the brand. Some musicians use only one brand while other use many brands. Each brand in unique in some way and different from the others.

I learned which artist played which "brand" of guitar. Carlos Santana plays guitars made by Paul Reid Smith. Paul Simon plays a black Ovation guitar - I've seen him many times and that's the only guitar he plays. Dave Stuart uses the Gretsch White Falcon. Mark Knopfler only uses a brand that has a lot of metal hardware on the front and I can't remember the name. I've seen Dylan use a number of guitars -- electric and acoustic. I can do a good imitation of him playing a big Martin acoustic. It's a big guitar and he is not a big person so he hunches over to be able to play it.

I've been to concerts and have seen with my binoculars that the artist was playing a guitar that my boyfriend made. James Tyler http://www.tylerguitars.com/  His guitars were strictly electric and acoustic electric. He made one model of an acoustic (you would not believe the inner construction of an acoustic guitar) but it did not sell.

My fascination was how the guitars were made. Sam cut the wood traced by a pattern. There are a lot of pieces of wood that make up a guitar. The front, the back, the sides and the neck. Not to mention there are at least ten types of wood that can be used. The pieces are glued together and I can't remember what the trim is called. He sanded them to a perfectly smooth finish. Then he would go into the closed to room to spray paint them and they were lined up by hooks to dry for several days. They had three Korean girls who made the frets (which are on the neck) which is very detailed work. After that, that the owner, James Tyler installed the hardware and headstock screws for the strings. When he got it to perfection, it was ready to go. He didn't sell to the public. He worked on commission. So every guitar was tweaked a bit to suit to each musician.

Angie: You seem to like Bon Jovi. So do I! Did you happen to see his "unplugged" on MTV recently? I rarely choose MTV, but this was AWESOME! He did a lot of his classic stuff, but really varied the tempo.

It's not fair, guys just get better looking as they get older!! He had a lot to work with to begin, and boy, he's not hurting for looks now!

LOL I agree sounds very nice. I was also thinking about Eric Clapton's slowed down version of  Layla. It however will never be as impressive IMO as the original.  Neutral Wink
