Being born in the 40's, I was at a good age when R&R came on the scene, I remember adults saying "this will be the ruin of our country", children, yada, yada"

I remember Sept 1957, I was 11, a young boy 13, preparing to go off to Military School, opened his upstairs window and me standing looking up, he sang "That Will Be The Day" to me. I had a picture of him that I carried into high school, never saw him again, I moved away, someone stole my wallet in 9th grade, I lost the picture, then found it again laying on the street. Oh, Puppy love. Fond memories.

For the most part, it was a fun, innocent, happy time to be a youngster. A time that youth today will never get to experience and that makes me sad.

Enjoy

I have an older sister.

That's the ONLY reason that I've heard of these songs.

Although I am not quite as old as you I grew up in the "innocent age" and then was a teenager during the late 60's and early 70's.  I have tried to show my 3 girls what a wonderful time it was to be young!  I'm not so sure they understand the wonderful part but I too am sad that they will never know what we did!  I don't remember the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly but I do remember where I was when I heard that Elvis had died.  I cried and went into mourning.  I was newly married at the time and some of our friends came over to check on me because I was so upset!

Hey,

I too remember Elvis, we were installing flooring in our dining room, it came on tv, we stopped not believing what we had heard and then we knew for sure, one of my sons and I were just talking about it, he was little but he remembers it too.

Excellent choices, do you remember Humperdinck? the power struggle between he and Tom Jones, it is funny now but back then it was pretty serious between me and my friend.
