OK........so, I would think that the "Lock this topic" should be used on page 50.

Sooo........how do I start a new thread?

When do you "Sticky this topic"?

And San? After you check the box next to the command, like "Lock this topic", do you just submit like you're going to post and the thread locks?

Yep.  When I create a new thread I check the box for STICKY and LOCK then hit submit.  It's kindof a cool feature that we couldn't do in the old forum.

I meant to say a new LCD thread.

What's a split thread and why/when would you use it?

( Oh, I just know you guys are already sorry that I'm going to be doing this! )

I'll learn, I promise!!!

OK let's say you are in the Natalee Holloway thread.  Don't go into the lively discussion and just hit NEW TOPIC.  In the subject line you put the tital of the new thread  Lively Case Discussion #675 8/8 - 8/9/2007.  Every time we create a new topic make sure you change the discussion number.

What I usually do for a short cut is go to the previous thread and modify the first post and just copy Klaas' image and past it in the new thread.

I have never tried a split before.  But it is when you move certain posts to a new thread.

We can try it on this one if you want.

To be honest CBB I haven't even used that option with this software yet.  It's not something that is done often.  I also need to learn how the SPLIT and MERGE work here.  I think I've only SPLIT a topic 2 or 3 times the whole time I've been moderator.  We didn't have a MERGE one before and I don't really know how that works either, LOL.

Usually around page 45 of the current thread, after posting that it will lock at page  50.  That's when I create the new thread and lock it.  Then I unlock it when the current thread is on page 49.

The only time I might do it different is if it were really JUMPING in the forum.  Then I might create the new LCD sooner and unlock the new one sooner too.

You may want to create a 2nd test thread to split it to.

Would it be ok if I tried this? I'm not sure I quite get where to find the subject line. I understand the new number and copying the picture and modifying the first post. I'm just not sure where to start it exactly.

San you know almost as much about the moderator functions in this new software as I do.  Have you tried moving the old LCD to the archives yet here?  If not you (SAN) should try that, it's a little different.  You still "uncheck" the box though and there is still a dropdown.  But there are alot more forums now with the OLD ARCHIVES, so don't get confused.

I have NO problem just not using the split thread. I don't think the cage knows it can be done, and that's fine with me!  Wink

OK I will do that now too.  I realized I forgot to do it lately.
