Brickell Avenue is the basically the International Financial district of Miami. It is just south of 'downtown' and as for work and density purposes it has replaced downtown.

The growth of this area in the past 15 years is phenomenal.

Several miles of tall glass hi rises. International banks, major law firms. Hi rise -- mix use. And hi rise residential. Predominately -- but not solely -- European and South American. I know many 'yuppies' who work in downtown that live on Brickell as well.

5 star hotels -- Mandarin Oriental, Conrad Hilton, JW Marriot, 4 Seasons.

Brickell Avenue runs along Biscayne Bay, from the south side of downtown, until the bridge over to Key Biscayne.

In other words -- very hi rent district.

I'm just trying to help you visualize the area.

Widget - there has been discussion, I don't remember if it was Shango/Simian or someone else.  Something like look to the center of the island.  Aloe has been mentioned before in the Code Talkers thread I believe.

Mermaid, is that recipe for corn/blackbean salsa  in the Monkey cook book?

If not, can you post it?  I would love to make that.

Anybody seen Beans today?  I have a Runza-related question.

Pardon me for being off topic.

Peaches there is a recipe that pippy posted for ROASTED CORN & BLACK BEAN SALSA.  Is that the one?  Let me know and I'll post it for you.

Wasn't there a dude nicknamed "Aloe Man" on the island?  Not sure who it actually was though, but I do remember references to him selling drugs as well...

Sorry -- Luis Posner.

Bought from the Eman family.

I remember we had most of this info on BFN somewhere -- but that sight is not accessible right now.

Sorry Widget -- and I need to leave for a bit.

I think it's actually called Aruba Aloe Company.

I don't think it's his son.

I'm not sure they are related or not.

All I remember right now is that Luis has a brother -- Israel I think is his name, and he is doctor. They live on Aruba.

If I remember the pictures....if they are related to M, it is definetly an Aruban part of the family. They do not look to be from Chicago, but I could be wrong.

We actually had the pictures here a long time ago -- SandraK provided the link.

Sorry Widget -- wish I could be of more help.

I'll have to check my cookbook.  I'm just always curious about what's for dinner at Mermaid's house because it's always more imaginative than what I'm having.

On the front page post -- the names of "Mansur" and "Posner" jumped out at me (they share the same corporate address in Miami)

Aloe man was a guy that supposedly went up and down the beach selling lotion to the tourists,  but it was rumored that he also sold drugs too .

Back in my RWV days the "gardener" supposedly as an employee of one of the Mansurs (either Jossy or his brother.) I never heard that the "Columbian" worked for anyone -- only that he was an "illegal."
