IBE,
I hope you are through taking photos in what sounds like a dangerous place to me.

No one has been arrested in this case, right?  You know what that means?  Please be careful and I hope you are through with the picture taking.  You are scaring me.

Very O/T.. 30 yrs. ago (Gads) I was a teacher on a series called "How the West Was Won" (Jim Arness) we spent, 30 yrs ago today did several weeks in Aug. on location in Kanab, Utah. Love the people and the nature.

Bragging... the older teenager I mentored as part of the American Legion Auxiliary, about 2 yrs. ago was very depressed and dressed in Gothic.. she joined the Mormon church and this weeks leaves for Salt Lake City to go to a college in nursing training and then tranf, in 2 yrs. to BYU. Earlier this summer she had changed her mind and wanted to be a sound engineer. Did intern this summer and is now back to nursing.

Her younger sister who I also mentored is like a daughter to me and lives here in the complex.

I just thought with all the miners now in Utah you could use some good news.

Klaas,
Do you have an accurate update on the count of the injured rescue workers?

I keep thinking that there should be SOME way of routinely establishing communication from deep within the mines. Even with an actual cable wire, or something.

Pretty much what IBE just reported:

Rescue Worker Killed, Others Injured at Utah Mine
August 16th, 2007 @ 8:51pm

AP/KSL) -- A disastrous cave-in Thursday night killed a rescue worker and injured at least eight others who were trying to tunnel through rubble to reach six trapped miners, authorities said.

"All rescue workers have been evacuated from the mine. Nine rescue workers were injured in the accident. One of those suffered fatal injuries," said Dirk Fillpot, a spokesman for the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration.

I wonder what impact this latest incident will have on the original rescue efforts? Those poor miners and their families! Prayers for them all!

Exactly what I'm wondering ~ I have a feeling it can't continue indefinitely.  Sad
This is so tragic and heartbreaking.

CBB ~ Have we ever heard from I-can't-remember-her-name, whose daughter was headed for Arizona.  That was a wild night!  Shocked Shocked
Just wondering.  Confused

IBE,
If no one has been arrested in the disappearance of Donna, it means whoever made her disappear is still out there and we don't know where.

Just be really careful, 'kay?

And they are pulling bodies out of the Peruvian earthquakes like anything.

Some days, it's just too much to take in.

CBB

Lady ... something was her name.
There is something a miner can wear it said on CNN and was being used by miners in Poland when they were able to find one.

Photobucket was freezing at the same time so didn't hear it all.. I think they said I law need to be done to make them wear it here.

Anna... I never thought of it that way..

On the mine... I hope my gut level is wrong, but IMO I think the chances are high they won't let the rescue miners back in... I think it's up to some govt. agency. Let's pray I am wrong.

You are right... earthquakes, mines, fires, no rain, missing adults and children... I need to regroup my stuff re: earthquake survival materials here.. have been very lax on those since moving into the tuna can.

It just said on CNN that some rescue miners done out the other rescue miners

Also they have a capsule, for lack of a better word, that they can use from above to lower down.. again photobucket was freezing so may have not heard it correctly

The Valley medical emerg. where they were flown into is the school/med. in Provo that my "older" mentored young girl is going to and then transferring into BYU later.. I think I said Salt Lake and it should have been Provo.
