Thank you LaLas. You are an angel for posting about my sister. She is so sick, but she really is amazing!!

I see that I've been making quite a few prayer requests as of late. If the monkeys will indulge me once again, I also wish for prayers for my father and entire family. My father's job was "discontinued" Friday afternoon and as of midnight Friday night, he, my mom, and my niece who they adopted last year, are no longer insured. He only got 2 weeks of severance pay. My parents are both 64 and have major financial commitments that haven't been fully met for quite some time.

You guys are amazing. Thank you for being here for me as you have been so many times before.

Sending prayers.  Can your father get insurance under COBRA?  I know he still has to pay, but it is at a reduced rate for 18 months.

Saying prayers for you too, Mishy, you have asked for everyone else but yourself.  Take care.

Mishy, Bearly is right, your father should qualify for COBRA. If he needs some assistance with that he can also contact your unemployment commission and schedule an appointment, someone there should help him to file that claim against his employer if they did not offer COBRA to him at the time he was downsized.

I do hope your sister can find some relief, I am so very sorry to hear she's not had any relief with the headaches. I will keep her in my prayers.

All, pdh never complains but please know she's been stretched pretty thin with her mother's illness recently, along with her work and her home responsibilities to her children. She never complains either, but please if all could pray for the best possible resolution for her mother, I'd appreciate it.

Prayers for all in need, thanks to each of you for being such caring people.

Hey Nonesie, I meant to answer Bearly's question last night. Yes, they gave him some paperwork for COBRA. I know when I was able to get COBRA about 7 years ago it was very expensive. My dad is going to file unemployment, call the credit cards regarding their debt relief programs, and talk to the mortgage people about a letter of hardship to get a deferral for a few months...

Thanks for your prayers guys! And thanks for letting us know about pdh3's mom. I am praying for her mom and their family...

Mishy, please have your father go sit down at an appointment with the employment security office. There are programs now that were not there 7 years ago, to assist with the cost of COBRA. He may qualify, ok? I know with his heart attack about a year ago, that might be a qualifier? I agree he should exercise all the rights he can for the debt relief. Godspeed for this has to be so stressful for he and your mother, you too.

I just do not understand how we can be such a prosperous country for so many years yet since the 70's when our economy hits a bump, we have no safety nets in place for those who have worked all their lives with commitment. When I was growing up I just never envisioned the US would allow this to happen.

Mishy,

I know None's advise is good because back a few years ago our office closed and many of my coworkers were left with what your Dad is facing.  My boss and another coworker took advantage of classes offered through Unemployment.  My boss took a course on how to start up his own business, and in doing so, his unemployment was extended until he was successfully running his new business.  The coworker took basic Microsoft Word classes and landed a job starting at $42,000, much more than she was making as a receptionist.  As for the Cobra, when my position ended in '06, I kept & paid for some of the coverage I had had to supplement what my DH had for me.  It's now ended, because they only give you 18 months, and I'm now in the process of deciding what to do next.  I'm hopeful your Dad will get advice from a knowledgable staffmember there.  If he's a veteran, there should be a liaison for him at the unemployment office, as well.

Keeping you, pdh3 and all the monkeys in my prayers.

My prayers and thoughts go out to Mishy, pdh3 and all the Monkeys and their families that are in need. Also to Beth, Dave, Carolyn, Gloria, April and their families, and all the families of the missing as they enter another Holiday weekend.

I have a request, please, for a very special friend and her family who are also in need of prayers at this time.

Thanks 2NJ and you got it mum...special prayers for your friend and her family who are in particular need at this time...Things are tough all over, guys. Terrible things are happening to people everywhere. The one comfort I've found in all of this is that I have this place to reach out and/or to extend a hand if needed. You guys are wonderful and you've helped me through the tough times over and over. Prayers for you all...

pdh3, can you please give us an update on the college student who is out there struggling to make it that you spoke about a few weeks ago? I have thought about her often...

I'm sorry I have not updated about this girl lately. My Mom has been seriously ill, and has been in the CICU in B'ham. Thankfully, she's doing better, and life is returning to normal around here. Many prayers were answered for her, and for our family. It was touch and go for a few days, but my Mom is tough and her faith is strong.

Prayers were answered for my little friend as well, and she was able to get her car back due to someone's generosity. She has found a better job because she now has her car and can drive herself where she needs to go. and things are not quite so dire.
All it takes to change someone's life is for one person to reach out and help. God answered this prayer, and someone wonderful did help her, and now this girl is slowly getting out of a big hole. She is still in school and hanging on to her dream. I am moved beyond tears when I think of it. She also cried at the thought that someone cared enough to help her, and she is very, very grateful.
I am always amazed at the power of prayer, even as I take comfort in the security of putting things in God's hands.

Pdh3
You should have called me. I would have been more than happy to post a prayer request for you.  I am so glad your friend's prayers were answered.  I am praying for even better things for her in the future.  God's mercy is vast and wonderful.

Lala's.....Everything happened so fast with my Mom, and she lives 90 miles away from me. I sort of had to drop everything and go.  Can you email me?

The wonderful Drs. and nurses in the CICU saved my Mom more than once over the past two weeks, and she is slowly improving. I cannot believe the talent that God has bestowed on her medical team. Please pray for them as well, because they truly are special people. They have a very tough job, and they have been so kind and compassionate and caring. I cannot praise them enough. I know God works through them, and I pray for them and the work that they do. It is amazing. God Bless them.

Asking for Prayers for Carolyn, I cannot imagine what she is going through. Thanks everyone.

Posted in Clinton's thread yesterday...

Ok....we have a lead.  I don't know what to think.  The lead is horrible if true. All I can say is that LE says they are supposed to be going in with cadaver dogs this week (hopefully it will be this week).  No parent should have to hear the things I am hearing!  This sucks!

Monkeys
We need to be sure to remember Hotping's Papa.  He is not doing well at all and her family needs strength.  She even told him that we are praying for him.  Let's all just take a moment to remember him and bring this family blessings of love and comfort for their loved one.
