BACK FROM THE HOSPITAL...

Everything did go very well today. My dad said that as of tonight, he has been able to raise his left arm and that it is without pain for the first time in a long time. He hasn't been able to get that kind of motion from that arm recently at all.

The surgical area is still sore, obviously, and there was a bone graft area from the hip and it is very sore. But overall things are doing great.

Because we had such a bad experience with my uncle's surgery, we were all very apprehensive about how it would go. But so many people have told me that they had a good result with this before, that I had begun to ease up a bit. I see now that this procedure has been improved a lot and it is very efficacious now.

The doctor told me today that he is pleased with how it went, so I should be, too.

Thanks everyone for praying. Y'all are a special bunch of people.

I have not posted this yet because I didn't have all the details, but tomorrow my dad is facing serious surgery.

Remember back in November, he was in an accident where a young girl broadsided his car? At the time it seemed like he would be OK but his neck and shoulder have gotten worse with pain since then. He will now have to have 2 vertebrae fused, and they will have to go into the vertebrae (around the spinal cord) to clean up any bone spurs and arthritis that has built up in the central canal of the spinal column in that injured area. They access the area by going in through the FRONT of the neck which is a pretty tough incision to say the least.  Needless to say this is very risky. My uncle, his brother had this same procedure done a few years back and it left him in a wheelchair and hastened his death.

I am trusting that all will go well. Keep us all in your prayers. I should be back tomorrow evening w/ a report if it all goes OK.

SB,
Your father is in my prayers.  They have come such a long way with this type surgery in the past few years.  When I worked in rehabilitation, cervical disc surgery was something to be avoided unless absolutely the last resort, because the results were not always worth it.  Three years ago, I had to have a cervical disc removed. They went through the front... which I had never heard of.  My surgery was done at 6 a.m. on Wed and I went home at 10 a.m. on Thursday.  Within 2 weeks, I was almost completely back to normal, and have had no residual problems.  I am mid-50's, so I know any surgery is more serious for someone your father's age.  But, they can do so much more now that a few years ago.  Please let us know how he does.

GREAT NEWS!  I did not finish the thread before I posted... you and your family will continue to be in my prayers.  Just be sure he does not do ANY lifting, even light things, for three weeks or so.  I am praying for a full and rapid recovery.

Seamonkey  needs our prayers.
Tomorrow she goes for an exploratory procedure and possible full surgery.  They won't know until she is on the table.
She is scared to death.  Sad

Artcolley Prayers for Seamonkey and hoping the surgery does not have to be too extensive.  She will know just how much all the monkeys will be praying for her and wishing for her speedy recovery.
Tell her she can spend her time convalescing with us!!
