My niece had a melanoma removed from the front of her shin.  She is only thirty and has a few mets but did the chemo at Vandy and she is in remission right now.  I will pray for you as I pray for her, both of you.

Also Brother in Law did experimental treatment at Vandy and beat lymphoma.  I hope you can go to Emory as they will have the same things I think.  Also my sister in law who did not speak a word of English went to Cancer Treatment of America, well I took her she didn't drive.  We did both chemo and radiation and she beat breast cancer, been twelve years now.  I had to be with her every minute because of the language and her being in a foreign country and scared but she made it and she beat this thing.

You can, too, and that is my prayer for you that you will get these same good results that so many do these days!

Anna

Sunfreak, prayers for you and your family during this critical time!

Just found out that one of my youngest daughter's friends from college was killed yesterday afternoon in a car accident. My baby is very sad and is still in Florida away from home.  This young girl just graduated on Saturday and was engaged to be married.  Her whole life was before her.  Such a loss!  Please pray for her family, fiance and friends!

I think I am speaking from a mother's heart here in saying this is a fear all of us mother's carry with them.  The ending of a precious life before it has fully matured and given back wonderful things to the world.  I will keep your daughter's friend in my prayers.  When these horrible tragedies occur nothing can comfort and nothing can heal.  I often wonder why life is so cruel.  Tell your daughter that there are people remembering her and her friend and family in their prayers.  It seems so simple a thing to do, yet it gives so much later.  Love and hugs.

Thank you Lala's and Kimmy!  Your concern will mean a lot to her!  Just found out that the young lady was on her way to visit her mom and step-father and was only 4 miles from home when the accident occurred. Her wedding was to be in September.  She was in a curve and tire dropped off the road and she overcorrected.  Ran off the road into some trees and the car flipped and landed on the roof.  You're right, Lala's it is every mother's nightmare! I did not know they young lady myself but my baby is sad and that makes me hurt! Thank's to all my caring monkeys and your support.

I usually don't ask for prayers for myself, but I think this warrants it.  I had a growth on my forearm removed that came back as a malignant melanoma.  She said it was very thick, level 5 as far as thickness goes.  I have no staging yet as no lymph nodes were taken, yet.  I recently had a scan of my chest, abdomen & pelvis done for other reasons and they were clean except for a few old age calculi in the renals, adrenals & ovary.  That part is good news - no mets there.  I would need a bone and brain scan most likely looking for mets.  I see the ONC on the 4th for staging & plans for treatment.  The surgeon said the margins to be taken on the arm would be disfiguring and would require reconstructive surgery.

I'm very scared and could use the power of prayer to help me get through all of this whatever the outcome is.

Oh, Sunfreak.  Prayers for you, sweetie.  Please keep us posted.

THANKS!!!  I'll keep you posted.

One of the best lessons I ever got from my Dad was on a country gravel road in rural Gage County.  We took his car out and he had me drop a wheel into the gravel on the side.  And then showed me how to drop the rear wheel in and THEN correct the front and then the rear wheels back onto the roadway.  We did it on gravel, and on paved road.  If you learn what to do when you drop a wheel off, you can get yourself back to normal without over correcting and heading for oncoming traffic.

In light of this tragedy, I will be teaching my dear daughter the lesson on dropping a wheel.  I think it came up the other day when we were driving together but it bears repeating.  And practicing.

I would challenge those of you here who have young drivers and even not so young drivers to have a discussion about this.  Many accidents originate in somebody dropping a wheel and overcorrecting.

Again, I am so sorry for your friends.

My dear Sunfreak.  One of the first people to call me when I was diagnosed was a chorus friend who proceeded to tell me HER cancer story.  Turns out she's a 20 year survivor of stage 4 melanoma.

Don't borrow trouble until you've seen the oncologist.

Call me if you need anything.  You know I'm just across town.  And here for ya.

Hugs and my prayers are with you always.

Sunfreak & Casa, Kimmy, and all Monkeys, I will say an extra prayer for monkeys, for Natalee's family and loved ones this weekend.  I know my fear of melanoma would be no less than yours.   We all know those who have survived and done well.  We all know those who did not.

Sunfreak, I correspond daily with a very good friend who was 24 when her melanoma was diagnosed.  She was told that limb salvage was out of the question.  She was an active tennis player, horseback rider and very active.  She refused to have her legs amputated.  She outlived all her physicians at Emory and has a beautiful daughter who just finished her doctoral work there.  Her daughter was born when she was 33.  Her daughter has undergone kidney transplantation and still achieved all this.  Mom has one leg smaller than the other, but she has a daughter who has done so much and she has lived a long life and remains happy to this day that she made the decisions she made throughout all this.

If you would like to be in touch with her, she lives in Marietta.
