Mom is sleeping most of the day now, they can't get off life support for more then 2 minutes.
She knows  when I'm there and she smiles at me .
The Dr said she could live this way for a long time.
Then she said ,but this isn't living.
We should have a family meeting, I said for what.
I said this is Mom choice, and No one over rides My Mom's right to live.

Then I  got a call on my way home from the hospital.
I have to get all of her things out of  the Nursing Convalescent Homes by tomorrow.
They need her room.sighhhhhhh
She is welcome to come back, when she gets better they said.

Blonde, where are you going to take your Mom?   They cannot force you to leave until you have a proper place.  They kept my Mom thirty days in the hospital until we could find a nursing home that could provide 24 hour care.

Sharon,
I will look for 36 Hour Day.  Thank you for sharing some of your experiences with your MIL.
You are very welcome Can.  In the beginning, I felt so scared and alone.  It reminds me of how Blonde feels right now and it hurts my heart.  I felt like I was drowning in an ocean and no one would throw me a life preserver.  It's hard to think straight when it is someone you love.

Blonde, I am really, really praying for you and your mom today. Hugs!
Sharon, I had a similar long saga with my Father.  Boy do folks in nursing homes need an advocate.  Like you with sweets for your MIL, I brought him whatever he wanted...including soft strawberry sundaes and met with some consternation from staff.
It's wonderful that you are now able to assist others.  Thank you.

p.s. My little Mother's 94 year old husband has Alzheimer's (fairly early stage, I think)  However my Mom is becoming weaker - noticeably, as she is completely responsible for running their household now.

OMG Blonde!  I don't think they can do this!!!!!!...they can't put Sadie on the street!!!
Hospital wanted to do this with my Dad,  I told them I would contact every newspaper, the Ministry of Health, etc. etc.  Bottom line...he stayed in hospital until an alternative place could be found.
Blonde, what are your options now?

I'm sorry I must have said this wrong
Mom is in the  hospital in ICU now and has been for three weeks.
The nursing home is where she was before.
They need her old room, so they say.

They could move her out of ICU to a place they keep's people that have to live the rest of their lives on live support.
In our case this would be very hard on me.
Now she is 10 miles away ,and  if moved to a state owned hospital it would by 40 miles away.
Bottom line they want her to come off life support and die.
So the Ins. Co. doesn't have to pay IMO.

Blonde ... does your Mom have a living will.  Her wishes while thinking with a sound mind in regard to at what point life support apparatus' should be removed should be known.

In 1990 ... at the age of 43 ... prior to surgery to remove a brain tumor ... being aware of the possible outcome ... on my own ... I made a living will and gave it to my daughter in a sealed envelop.  My hubby was dealing with enough just being my rock.

I realize all of this is sooo overwhelming but ... it is the circle of life.  It is said ... "Love is not a feeling ... it is the act of your will".  Blonde ... your actions equates love.

May our God grant you strength required to endure and the "peace that passes all undertanding."

Dear Blonde,

I have been following along with your updates on your Mother!!  My hearts breaks for you.  I feel your pain and frustration more than you can ever know!!

Stand firm with those who fight you!!  Be your Mom's advocate!!  Ask God to speak for you!! But most importanly, just be there as much as you can for your MOM!!  I found so much comfort when I actually spoke these words out loud!!  God I am putting this in your hands, it is too much for me right now.  An overwhelming sense of peace came over me and God took over!!  He will never forsake you!!

Your Mom, you and your family are in my prayers!!

All of my love,

Mytime

I am sorry you are having to deal with this very difficult situation. I don't know of the specific state or hospitals where you are but I can tell you how it is where I work.

When we have a patient in ICU that has been trached and they have not been able to ween off of the vent in the ICU they are sent to a step-down unit or Progressive Care (PCU). By this time most patients have reached a level of lowered ventilator support but are not ready to come off the vent. Their oxygen requirement is likely less, but they are
getting some volume support. After a time, apart from the respiratory aspect, the patient would be ready for a secondary nursing facility.

These tertiary care facilities are rehabs/nursing homes that take patients with trachs who need respirators. The level of nursing care/medical care including respiratory therapists is greater at these facilities than standard nursing homes. the patient continues the weaning process there, and in Sadie's case the goal would be to get her back to the adult facility where she was living.

Would it be possible for you to go and see the 2 facilities that are being considered for your Mom's placement? This might be a good idea and give a clearer understanding of each.

Prayers to you both..........

My Mom can't even start the process of beening able to ween off of the vent in the ICU.
Her lungs are shot, they will not work without life support.
She is stuck there  in ICU untill they can try or if they give up on her they would have somewhere else to put her.
I rather have her where she is now because she is very close to my home.
Her will is CPR /Administer
Artifical Respiration /Administer
Artifially provide nutrition and Hydration/Administer

My prayers are with you.  Have you looked into some type of patient avdocate?  It appears like your mother's wishes are clear.  Maybe someone will know a group you can contact to help you.

Blonde I am thinking about you and your Mom today.  I bought my Mom two dozen long stemmed red rose and baby's breath and the biggest box of chocolates I could find.  I am waiting for RM to get home so we can take them to her.

Hello,

Please a small prayer for me to get well. I am in my 3 wk of illness.. started like a sore throat way up in throat, went into a head old, lost my voice, very hacking dry cough.

Last night was the worse... flem opening but coughs are so hard they my ribs hurt and it's like something sitting on my chest. eyes hurt, now ears. Have gone all through my food so buying meals on wheels starting Mon for two weeks. Hoping that will help me.

Hot one minute, cold the next.
went to Cocos for lunch.. was so weak hardy got there and back Can't keep food down

Other that that, things are swell. TIA

this started two weeks after I visited my friend in the hospital who had pneumonia and later died.

Haven' gone to Dr for he did nothing about my "musical" sound after breathing completely out. Last week I sounded like an oboe and barked like a dog

Now nose runs on it's own. ears hurt, eyes burn.

IBE - I hope you get better soon.   I think it might be time to go back to the doctor and get an antibiotic!  It sounds like it may have turned into an infection.   You don't want to mess with that!   I'll keep you in my prayers.

Blonde - still keeping you and your mom in prayer.
