I am ONLY posting this in the event I don't follow up timely and someone else wants to.

A decomposed body was found in Southwest Ranches (western ft lauderdale) this morning. They don't say much other than it is a fully clothed adult -- and it could have been there for about 3 months. See story below.

I pray it is not Stepha Henry and that she is still alive somewhere. Chances are it is not. This is a pretty 'rural' area and apparently a good place for no one to find a body for awhile

Decomposed body found on side of U.S. 27

An arrow spray-painted by investigators points to area where skeletal remains were found Wednesday along U.S. 27 in Southwest Ranches. The skeleton found on the side of the road Wednesday might have been there for months. It could take just as long before authorities identify the person, since they have to determine gender and age and as well as the time and manner of death.

Workers clearing brush along the side of northbound U.S. 27 in Southwest Ranches early Wednesday morning made the grisly discovery.

The remains of an adult, still clothed, were discovered in waist-deep grass on the east side of the roadway.

''It looks like it may have been there for several months,'' said Keyla Concepción, a Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

The Broward Medical Examiner's Office has begun an autopsy and is trying to determine time of death, among other things.

When a decomposed body is found, the task is twofold, said Dr. Joshua Perper, chief medical examiner for Broward County. First, medical examiners must determine the general characteristics of the deceased. Gender, race, age and height are some of the features examiners seek to uncover when they process the bones.

After completing a general identification, examiners look at features that can give them a better understanding of the personal identity of the deceased. With no fingerprints, they have to rely on dental records and dental comparison shots, Perper said.

''Sometimes it can take a longer time if the anthropological features are more difficult,'' Perper said. A forensics specialist might have to be brought in, he added.

Decomposed bodies also pose difficulties for medical examiners hoping to find the time and manner of death, Perper said.

''You're dealing with bones primarily,'' he said. ``If the injuries are to the soft tissue alone, they may no longer be visible. Sometimes there might be injuries to the bones, so we have to look very carefully for that.''

Although investigators at the scene did not immediately see any obvious signs of trauma, it's too early to determine if foul play was involved, Concepción said.

Miami Herald staff writer Jennifer Lebovich contributed to this report.

I don't know klaas.

They're saying it could take days -- or months.

Or never Sad

Logic would tell me that they would test against known missing persons first -- rather than people they don't even know are missing. But I have no experience (thank god) with this type of forensics -- only forensic accounting Laughing

This was yesterday morning -- not this morning. (I thought I had posted it yesterday and just realized I had not)

Oh Sharon and Klaas, my first thought too was of course, Stepha Henry but in a way it does sound like this one has been out there for longer.

I hope so Sleeks.

Stepha has been missing 3 months now Sad

I don't know the impact, if any, that our climate has on rate of decomposition.

I have very mixed feelings. While I hope Stepha is alive, I don't really believe in my heart that she is. It would give some closure to her family, if she has died, for her remains to be found. To never know where a child is, to me , would be the worst thing.
But I have been fortunate enough not to have lived that nightmare, so I may be wrong. And I really don't want to seem insensitive to her family. Their suffering tears at my heart. Stepha has to be somewhere, and someone has to know where she is, and what happened to her.

At any rate, someone has been found, and a family will soon have to prepare for a funeral. It's very sad.

So many missing people  Sad
Lot's in Florida

Jennifer Kesse too.

Some from Tim's site (TES):
Heather “Kitty” Riggio, age 20, of North Miami Beach, Florida was last seen on Sunday, May 6, 2007 getting into a white SUV and has not been seen or heard from since. She was last seen wearing a pink top, jeans and high heels. She has two tattoos, a pink pin-up girl on her leg and a black nautical star on her back.

Brandy Hall, 32 years old, was last seen leaving the Malabar Fire Department, 1840 Malabar Rd, Malabar, Florida on August 17th, 2006, at approx 10:45pm. Her truck was found submerged in a nearby lake on August 18th, 2006. Blood evidence was found in her vehicle, but law enforcement isn’t certain if she’s a victim of homicide or if she just left on her own. She was last seen wearing an off white long sleeve shirt with the Malabar Fire Department logo over the left breast and the same name printed on the back, dark work pants, and mid calf work boots.

Southwest Ranches: Skeleton found on U.S. 27 was man, deputies say
September 6, 2007

A skeleton discovered last week along the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 was that of a man whose identity remains a mystery, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Detectives said they found the following clothing on the bones: a dark blue pullover shirt with no buttons, dark blue pants with an elastic waistband, a camouflage hat with "Broward Power Train Co. Inc., Ft. Lauderdale, FLA" printed on it and a pair of size 10 sneakers.

Investigators think the man died months ago but they don't know how, officials said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Homicide Detective Tim Duggan at 954-321-4210, Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.

WOW Sharon - a 27 year old man!  Well then I guess it is pretty safe to say he didn't just die of natural causes.  I hope LE gets to the bottom of this one.

Sleeks -- I think '27' refers to the hiway that the body was found off of.

They haven't mentioned an age -- but I will keep checking for updates.

IMO -- this cannot be natural causes (unless he died of natural causes elsewhere and was 'buried' here).

This is in the middle of nowhere. I can't imagine that he was strolling in the vicinity and dropped dead -- but who knows? But HOW did he get there?

I am still searching for news of his identification, but no luck, so far.
I did find this>>

Few clues in identifying skeletal remains

Recognize this hat? Know someone who is missing?

The Broward Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying the skeletal remains of a man's body found last week by landscapers in Southwest Ranches.

Near the bones, detectives found the camoflauge hat pictured above. It reads, "Broward Power Train Co. Inc., Ft. Lauderdale, FLA."

A backpack and a pair of sneakers - size 10 - were also found nearby.

BSO says the remains belong to a man who was wearing a dark blue pullover shirt and dark blue pants with an elastic waistband.

The remains were found last Wednesday in the brush and weeds along the northbound lanes of U.S. 27, just north of Sheridan Street.

Anyone with information is asked to call  BSO Homicide Detective Tim Duggan at 954-831-4210 or Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477.

I think he has been ID'd, but no name given. I'll look around a bit more for information....

Identified
The victim was located on August 29, 2007 in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida. He was identified in 2009 by fingerprints.
