Luciano, I loved your golden voice which is now silent. Thank God you left behind a huge discography and I have many CDs of your music.

Luciano Pavarotti (October 12, 1935 – September 6, 2007) lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at 71. He shed his mortal coil on September 6 and is now singing for the Gods.

I absolutely adored him and always could pick out his unique voice when he was singing operas with other tenors. His charisma and voice were celebrated around the world.

Farewell Luciano.  Addio il mio Luciano. Ti amo e li mancherà per sempre.

My favorites are all the operas Luciano sung that were written by Giacomo Puccini (December 22, 1858 – November 29, 1924). They are all in Italian.

La Boheme
Tosca
Turandot
Madama Butterfly
Manon Lescaut
La Fanciulla Del West

The famous "Nessun Dorma" (None Shall Sleep) comes from Turandot.

Funeral for Luciano Pavarotti takes place in Modena
Snipped
Luciano Pavarotti received a final, tear-stained standing ovation after a recording of the great Italian tenor singing a duet of "Panis Angelicus" with his father was played during an otherwise somber funeral Saturday in his hometown cathedral.

Pavarotti Remembered
Mike Wallace Looks Back At His Profiles Of The Legendary Tenor

(CBS) The music world lost one of its greats this past week. Luciano Pavarotti's extraordinary talent, coupled with a larger-than-life persona, transcended the opera stage. His voice and smile were a fixture in soccer stadiums, concert halls and Olympic ceremonies for a generation.

Mike Wallace looks back at two 60 Minutes conversations with the great tenor. Wallace first interviewed him in 1993, when some said Pavarotti was already in the twilight of his career. But nine years later, in 2002, Pavarotti still wasn't ready for that final curtain when Wallace visited him again, this time on the Caribbean island of Barbados
