Missing FSU student found in jail

TALLAHASSEE -- A Florida State University student missing since Sept. 3 was found in jail under a different name, according to a report from FLORIDA TODAY news partner the Tallahasse Democrat.

Ryan Giacomin, 20, a junior at FSU, was last seen riding a scooter near his home. He was found in Leon County Jail under a fake name, according to grandmother Denise Giacomin.

According to Denise Giacomin, the family received a call today after a law-enforcement officer at the Leon County Sheriff's Office recognized the photo of the missing man on the 11 p.m. news.

The deputy sent the family a picture, and the parents identified the person as their son, Giacomin said. He had been arrested about a week ago on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Was he thinking that he was better off in jail than facing the rath of his parents?  Or maybe if he worried the living $h!! out of them they might not be near as mad?

Oh yeah, he wasnt thinking at all.

Glad he is safe.

According to the arrest report, here is what happened: A man had started a fire at the Shell Food Store, 6595 Capital Circle S.E. He resisted arrest while firefighters and deputies tried to detain him.

The man told deputies his name was Andrew Hustle, and gave a fake Social Security number and date of birth. He didn't list an address.

Though the charges were misdemeanors, Giacomin was not released from jail because "he was unable to provide contacts or ties to the community," Broxton said.

“People many times give fake names when booked into the jail because of outstanding warrants and more serious charges,” said Sgt. Chris Chase, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies did not identify him based on previous arrest history because he was not booked into jail, nor was he fingerprinted, so there were no records to compare, Chase said.

Giacomin started a fire in a convenience store?  I see why he is going to get a psychiatric eval.

I am glad this man was found alive.  Hopefully he can get help and go on to live a healthy and productive life.  At least he will have an opportunity to turn his life around....

Yes Carolyn, I agree with you.  I'm sure no matter what, if any trouble your son may have gotten into, it wouldn't be anything that you wouldn't help him get through.

Thanks for your understanding Muffy....
I just hope my son knows/knew that I would have helped him through anything.  I think he knew but it is crazy how something like this makes you question everything.

I just hope that Ryan's and his family realize how fortunate they are to have another chance.  It is probably crazy to say ending up in jail may have been a blessing but sometimes the things you think are terrible are not so bad if you look at it from another perspective.

No Carolyn, I don't think it's crazy to say ending up in jail may have been a blessing for Ryan.  He has another chance and hopefully he will be offered help and he will take advantage of it and get back on track.  I am hoping your Clinton will have a chance too.  {{hugs}} to you Carolyn.
