Nevada Authorities Search for Girl, Man in Explicit Sex Tape

LAS VEGAS —  Authorities in Nevada were trying Tuesday to find a girl believed to be 4 or 5 years old and a man seen performing explicit sexual acts on her in an amateur videotape that detectives were told was found in the desert.

"The problem is the unknowns," said Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz, who said he hoped widespread national attention would identify the girl and the man.

"We have no idea where he's from, where she's from, and no idea who they are or where they are," Boruchowitz said in a telephone interview from the sheriff's office in Pahrump, 60 miles west of Las Vegas.

The tape, a little longer than 30 minutes, clearly shows the adult man performing criminal sexual acts that Boruchowitz said included rape, "everything else, and then some."

A 26-year-old Pahrump man, Darren Tuck, surrendered the tape to Nye County sheriff's investigators Sept. 8, after another man reported seeing it, Boruchowitz said.

Tuck told detectives he found the videotape in the desert outside Pahrump more than five months ago, although Boruchowitz said the tape didn't appear to have been exposed to weather or elements.

Boruchowitz said investigators don't think Tuck made the tape. Tuck was arrested Sept. 19 on charges of promoting child pornography and possession of child pornography, felonies. The top charge carries a possible sentence of up to life in prison.

Tuck was released without bail, pending arraignment Nov. 26 in Pahrump Justice Court, a court official said.

His lawyer did not immediately respond Tuesday to messages seeking comment.

"Our concern is if little girl is still in that situation," Boruchowitz said. "Our concern is to get her out of the nightmare that she's been living in."

LAS VEGAS - Nevada authorities identified a man on Friday who they want to question as they search for a young girl shown being sexually assaulted in a homemade videotape.

Chester Arthur Stiles, 37, was being called a "person of interest" in the search for a girl with haunting eyes who authorities believe was 4 or 5 years old when she was raped and sexually assaulted in the explicit video, Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said.

The girl is called "Madison" on the tape, and it is "possible" that the man shown in it is Stiles, DeMeo said.

Stiles was described as a white male with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Stiles, whose last known address was Las Vegas, also was wanted on unrelated state and federal warrants on charges of sexual assault and lewdness with a minor under 14 years of age, the sheriff said.

"We know he has those warrants," DeMeo said. "For us, he is a person of interest. We want to talk with Mr. Stiles about the identity of the female victim."

No family members of the girl have come forward, he added.

Officials said they had received 4,000 tips since first publicizing the case earlier this week, when they distributed images of the girl and the man on the tape.

MSNBC.com generally does not identify or release photos of suspected victims of sexual abuse but is doing so in this case in the interest of the girl’s safe recovery.

Second girl wasn't harmed
Investigators believe the tape was shot sometime since January 2005.

The video includes a second segment with an older girl, who was later found. She was not sexually abused and "never suffered as a victim at the hands of the perpetrator as the first girl has," Nye County Sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz said Thursday.

The part of the video showing the older girl was shot in Nye County, a rural county near Las Vegas, Boruchowitz said.

Boruchowitz said the older girl had been videotaped by a "peeping Tom" and had reported the incident to police at the time.

Man said he found tape in desert

Police said late Monday they had arrested Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles, the man accused of videotaping himself while raping a 3-year-old girl.

Las Vegas police Sgt. John Loretto confirmed the arrest but declined to elaborate. Loretto said police would provide details at a news conference late Monday.

Stiles, 37, had been the focus of a nationwide manhunt since police identified him as the man who raped and sexually assaulted a girl in a homemade videotape that surfaced last month in the rural Nevada town of Pahrump.

The girl was found with her mother in Las Vegas on Sept. 28. Now 7 years old, she has been described as happy and healthy, with no memory of the 2003 encounter with Stiles.

Authorities had sought the public's help in finding Stiles, who was wanted on state and federal warrants in a case in which he was alleged to have groped a 6-year-old girl in 2003.

Police were also looking into an allegation that he had sexually assaulted a young girl in 2001.

Police say they had received hundreds of tips about Stiles, who they had called dangerous and possibly armed. Stiles had previously been arrested on charges including assault, battery, resisting a police officer, auto theft, leaving the scene of an accident and contempt of court, authorities said.

He was convicted in 1999 in Las Vegas of carrying a concealed weapon, and in 2001 of conspiracy to commit grand larceny. He pleaded no contest in Houston in 1993 to unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett said others have characterized Stiles as a "survivalist type" who claimed to have weapons, a Navy SEAL background and who always carried a knife.

The man who turned the tape in, Darrin Tuck, 26, was arrested last month on a probation violation charge, and was likely to face pornography charges, Beckett said.

Chester Stiles Case Continued Until February 2009

Trial has again been postponed for a man accused of videotaping himself sexually assaulting a toddler, after new videos surfaced allegedly showing him having sex with an adult woman.

Lawyers for Chester Arthur Stiles gained more time to review the new evidence, after Clark County District Court Judge Jennifer Togliatti on Monday scheduled a trial-setting hearing Nov. 19.

Several weeks ago, authorities discovered a video believed to be a copy of the tape found in the desert in Pahrump showing Stiles sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl, according to court documents.

Authorities also found a video showing Stiles having sex with his son's mother, court records state. The woman in the tape told FBI agents she wasn't aware that someone made the video of her and Stiles, according to court records.

Authorities found the videos following Stiles' arrest in October 2007 in a storage shed Stiles used. Investigators reviewed the videos last month and discovered the new footage.
