Here's some photos from the fire area.  Last I heard it's zero percent contained.  Winds are picking up again tonight.

This is a cool pic:

Another fire just broke out in Orange County just east of Irvine.  The toll road has been closed.  Alot of very dry hill sides in that area.

SILVERADO CANYON - A brush fire that broke out in the vicinity of Silverado Canyon and Santiago Canyon roads in east Orange early tonight crossed the 241 toll road was threatening some homes, a fire official said.

The flames were headed toward the Northwood and Portola Springs residential areas, according to Orange County Fire Department Capt. Stephen Miller, who said the wind-whipped blaze started just before 6 p.m. and grew quickly.

The fire was initially said to be about 20 acres in size, and was "probably in the hundreds" within the hour, Miller said.

No injuries or structural damage were reported as of 7 p.m., he said, adding that winds were between 35 and 45 miles per hour.

According to ABC7, the fire was burning along the Foothill Transportation Corridor (241) near the Bee Canyon access road.

The 241 was shut down between the Eastern Transportation Corridor (133) and Chapman Avenue, and Santiago Canyon Road was closed between Chapman Avenue and Modjeska Canyon Road, Channel 7 reported.

will update its coverage as soon as infomation is available

Klaas,
Won't the smoke make all of you sick?  I have been fearful of something like this happening here while it is so dry but so far, so good.  Is there any chance at all of it getting too close to any of you out there?  Will there be plenty of warning time should it shift and come your way?

Anna - I live about a mile from the ocean and yes, the smoke is all blowing out over the ocean and it sucks.  The humidity is at 25% so it's very dry.  You can't smell any smoke here because the fires are too far away but you can feel it in your eyes.  My nose is dry and itchy, eyes burning.  I can't imagine what it's like in the fire areas.

That reminds me of a couple years ago when we were driving to Vegas.  There was a fire near the Cajon Pass.  The fire was all the way down to the highway when we passed it.  They actually closed the highway right after we went through.  Even with the windows rolled up the smoke still got in the car.  You could barely breath.

Nite Mrs. Red

We'll be fine.  Winds have picked up big time though which won't be good for the Irvine fire.

Klaas? You're safe, right?

What do you do when a fire is close, but not evacuation time? I mean, if you go to bed and the fire gets closer, someone wakes you up, right?

No fires anywhere close to me, nothing closer than 20 miles or so. If a fire was close I wouldn't be sleeping, LOLOL  I'd be busy putting stuff in my car.  Laughing

Hi Klaas and CBB!

I've been trying to get into page one of the Halloween Avatar thread and
can't get it to load.  I waited nearly 45 minutes.  Is it too late to get one?

Never too late Patti - either CBB or I will fix you up by tomorrow, OK?  If you aren't around I'll just add it for you.  Do you want something similar to what you have only dressed for Halloween?
