Community Prays For Safe Return

Worthington police say a missing teenager had contact with a man who she had an order of protection against just hours before she was last seen.

Seventeen-year-old Lindsey Lease filed for the restraining order in February, claiming that Sonny Syhavong physically or sexually assaulted her and made threats along with harassing phone calls. A SUV police believe Syhavong was driving was found in West Des Moines Iowa Sunday. Monday, paperwork was filed to allow Iowa authorities to pick up Syhavong on a probation violation. Lease contacted her family by phone Sunday around noon, but hasn't been heard from since.

Monday night, people in Worthington came together to pray for her quick return.

Family and friends filled St. Mary's church in Worthington Monday night. While there were many tears, there were also prayers of hope for the protection and safe return of Lindsey Lease.

It was a prayer service to show support in this time of uncertainty, as authorities in Minnesota and Iowa search for Lindsey Lease.

Lease's teacher Gail Holinka says, "I just think we all need to stand together as a community."

Lease's classmate Brian Harberts says, "Come out here tonight to support Lindsey and hope she comes home safely."

Two-hundred fifty people gathered tonight to lean on each other, while praying for a sister, friend, classmate and student who hasn't been seen since Sunday morning.

Harberts says, "I couldn't believe it at first. Kind of took it to heart right away, considering I was at the football game with her Friday night, standing next to her cheering."

Holinka says, "Lindsey is a sweet, sweet girl who wouldn't hurt anybody. And she doesn't deserve to be taken away from her family and friends. And we just want her to come home soon."

Along with prayers for a safe return, there were also prayers for the police who are searching for the 17 year old, as Worthington came together to show support for the missing girl.

Holinka says, "We'll just be here for the family and be here for the friends and support everybody anyway we can."

Harberts says, "She's just a great person, hopefully she can make it.

Prayers were also offered tonight for the teenager police believe is with Lease, Sonny Syhavong, with people praying that he will turn himself in.

Search Continues for Lindsey Lease
http://www.keloland.com/News/NewsDetail6371.cfm?Id=0,61772

Co-workers hoped a missing Worthington teenager would show up for her shift this afternoon, but there's still no sign of 17-year-old Lindsey Lease. She's been missing since Sunday morning when police found her car with a broken window and blood in the interior.

They believe she's in the Des Moines, Iowa area with, 17-year-old Sonny Syhavong.  But the vehicle the two were believed to be in was found at his relative's house in West Des Moines Sunday.  Officials now say Syhavong had contact with Lease Sunday night, but she has a restraining order against him.
Kami Lease filed a restraining order on behalf of her daughter against Sonny Syhavong in February.  The Nobles County court found reason to believe Syhavong had harassed Lease through physical or sexual assault, phone calls and threats. He was ordered to stay away from her house, the Worthington High school, and the town's YMCA where she is a lifeguard.

The parents of 17-year-old Lindsey Lease have reunited with their daughter who went missing Sunday morning.

Lease of Worthington, Minnesota, was found safe in an apartment building in West Des Moines Monday night. Her parents traveled from Minnesota to pick her up from the police station.

Police also found 17-year-old Sonny Syhavong in the apartment building and have taken him into custody. He has been taken to a juvenile detention center. So far, he only faces charges for violating a protection order.

Lease's parents reported her missing early Sunday morning when they found her car in Worthington with a broken window and blood inside. Her parents tell KELOLAND News that Lindsey was taken against her will.

We'll have more on this developing story today.  Stay with KELOLAND News and KELOLAND.com for the latest information.

So glad this one had a happy ending.  I wish all missing cases did.
