Hey Monkeys
I have a question...

I have sent the  link for Ericka Harvey's site http://www.erickaharvey.com

to a number of people and have said just open it and let the music play.  (It does on my PC.. even if I have Media Player playing something)

A few have responeded they can not hear music or get the control box to work with out any explanation as to why it will not play.

Now for the Question:

What is required (software) for the the music to be heard?

I'v tried looking at task manager for cpu use but too dumb to tell...what on my PC is being used Embarassed

Thanks  Gang..

Ok, the web/internet is a wild and wonderful place with lots of variety.

It's hard to assume that everyone has the same equipment, programs and browsers with their properties set to automatically do things the same everywhere.

In this particular case the code on Erica's page is setup to play a windows media file. This will work if folks have the windows media player on their equipment and the browser and properties are set to allow it to play.

ID="mediaPlayer"

CLASSID="CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95"

CODEBASE="http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/
   controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701"

STANDBY="Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components..."

Anyone not using the standard default windows setup probably won't hear anything.

Like me, I'm of the ABM religion and don't run microsoft code whenever possbile to do without.

I'm running Firefox for a browser and don't automatically allow anything to load, especially anything provided by microsoft.

Well, a person has to have the Windows media player installed and windows configured to have it as their default media player.

The persons browser has to have the ACTIVEX function turned on in their browser for the player to run automatically.

Think some of microsofts fixes lately have turned off the ACTIVEX function in I.E. because it is such a dangerous function. I.E. used to install with the function automatically turned on.

Turning on the Activex thing would be in the I.E. properties.

For running the music outside of the page Erica setup, Erica would need to provide a link to the actual music media file and I didn't see that anywhere when I looked at her page.

The page seems to be coded in typical microsoft fashion without consideration for alternative methods of viewing.
