I just wrote a long disertation on the issues being discussed, only to lose it. Sad

I think that you guys have done a great job of explaining why we need to get rid of social (in)security and why socialized medicine is a horrible idea.

You both touched on a nerve with the drug discussion, and I have to say that IMO we have come to paying for a recreational drug by covering Viagra but not other drugs... and I resent it.  I can't even tell you how many doctors have told me that if these guys would diet and exercise there wouldn't be such a need for Viagra... it's kind of a use it or lose it deal. Why not cover birth control?  Oh there are "ethical issues" with that one.

I certainly would never endorse socialized medicine.  In getting rid of SS we would create a void which would need to be filled by something.  As Steve alluded to, there is always the bottom half of that "bell shaped curve" which does consist of some very legit causes for concern.  Quite frankly I have some problems with the drug lobby and the way they would rather pay to keep generic drugs off the market than to find a way to make the brand named drugs more affordable.

As for losing your dissertation, I can sympathize.  I can't tell you the number of times a day I can't even remember my own name.  Wink
