You can't tell a 2 year old to sit still...then get in a truck to move it and expect the kid to sit there and wait. RIDICULOUS!!

NEWRY (NEWS CENTER/AP) -- A young boy was killed Sunday at the Sunday River Ski Area when he was accidentally run over by his father's pickup truck.

Two-year-old Wyatt Bennett died at the scene. His father, James Bennett, was doing maintenance work on the Starlight Trail behind the Grand Summit Hotel.

Troopers say James sat his son down on a wood pile and moved his truck. But the boy wandered off and was crushed by one of the truck's tires.

This is not the first tragedy involving the death of a child to strike the Bennett family. The family lost another son, 2-year-old Samuel, in 2003 following a freak accident in which he was struck by a tree that his father was cutting down at their house lot in Bethel, Fire Chief Michael Jodrey said.

"Obviously, everyone's hearts are going out to the family right now," Jodrey said. "I wouldn't wish this on somebody once, never mind twice."

This is one sorry story...it really angers me.  Mad

Nut ~  I had very similar thoughts and feelings after I read the article.  I was wondering if I should start a thread here, but it wasn't classified as a crime.  You hit the nail on the head when you said "May not be a crime by 'law'..."  I started a thread under News of the Day.  Here is what I posted, my words are in red:

NEWRY, Maine (AP) -- The death of a 2 1/2-year-old boy who was run over by his father's pickup truck in a ski area was the second accident in four years in which the family lost a toddler.

James Bennett, 42, a Bethel Fire and Rescue worker, was doing maintenance work Sunday on a ski trail behind the Grand Summit Hotel when he sat his son, Wyatt, down on a wood pile while he moved his truck, state police said.

The boy wandered into the path of the vehicle and was crushed by one of its tires, investigators said. Wyatt was dead at the scene.

Yes, this is certainly a tragedy.  That said, WHY in the WORLD would he take the child and set him on a woodpile, instead of taking the child and putting him in the truck cab with him?!  I am really, really sorry this child has died, and I'm sorry the father will have to live with having run over his toddler.  That said, does this guy not have common sense?  He expected a child under the age of three to stay put, while he moved a tuck around.  And I wonder what the details were in the accident that killed his first son?  Where was the child when the tree was being cut down?  And why was there any chance a tree being cut down by his father could strike him?  Yes, it must be horrible for the father.  But what about the two little boys!  Their father's lack of judgement killed them...imo.

Once, give benefit of the doubt.  Twice, no.  Is this his way of getting rid of children he doesn't want?  And getting lots of sympathy to boot.

Needs kicked really hard to wake him up!  What is this man thinking?  Why was the first child he killed even outside while trees that large were being cut for example?

Hope the wife knows to never leave the kids alone with this man as he is too stupid to take care of them.

JMO  but I think a lot more about it, just not going to say it.

This is just sickening. Is this guy just stupid, and extremely careless with small children, or is it something more malevolent?
I hope he has no other children now, or ever.
