One last post for tonight.  I was looking back at some old stuff.

Remember when Aruba refused financial help from the Netherlands. That was just a couple of months ago.


Aruba's "No Thank You"
June 21st 2006, Aruba.

ORANJESTAD-The Dutch government is willing to take cover the entire
debt of The Netherlands Antilles & Aruba under the condition that the
governments of both countries are not allowed to issue new loans without
the approval of the government of the Netherlands.

The Prime Minister of The Netherlands Antilles is willing to discuss the
deal. That is contrary to the Prime Minister of Aruba who views the Dutch
proposal as a step to decrease the island's present autonomy status.

During a press conference, Prime Minister Nelson Oduber said that Aruba
will solve its own problems. Oduber views Aruba as an independent
country, with its own political institutions and is thus responsible for its
own financial situation. "Aruba will not ask the Netherlands for financial
aid. We will solve this by ourselves," Oduber ended.

The debt of The Netherlands Antilles stands at $2.6 billion, the debt of
Aruba at $1 billion.
