Dan Fogelberg Music

One of his best songs ever and very appropriate for my life right now.
Same Old Lang Syne
Met my old lover in the grocery store
The snow was falling Christmas Eve
I stole behind her in the frozen foods
And I touched her on the sleeve
She didn't recognize the face at first
But then her eyes flew open wide
She went to hug me and she spilled her purse
And we laughed until we cried
We took her groceries to the checkout stnad
The food was totalled up and baggged
We stood there lost in our embarrassment
As the conversation dragged
We went to have ourselves a drink or two
But couldn't find an open bar
We bought a six-pack at the liquor store
And we drank it in her car[/b]
We drank a round to innocence, we drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness but neither one knew how
[
b]
She said she'd married her an architect
Who kept her warm and safe and dry
She wuld have liked to say she loved the man
But she didn't like to lie
I said the years had been a friend to her
And her eyes were still as blue
But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw doubt
or gratitude
She said she saw me in the record stores
And that I just be doing well
I said the audience was heavenly but the traveling was hell
We drank a toast to innocence, we drank a toast to now
Reliving in our eloquence, another 'auld lang syne'
The beer was empty and our tongues were tired
And running out of things to say
She gave a kiss to me as I got out and I watched her drive away
Just for a moment I was back at school
and felt that old familiar pain
And as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain.

I tried to bold the whole thing and put really good parts in red. Didn't turn out exactly but you can get the idea!

Mrs. Red. I did know that he died recently. I thought it was from his prostate cancer though. I loved all his music! Have a few favorites though.

You are probably right... I am not sure where I got the heart attack idea...

I, too, was always blown away by Dan Fogelberg and his intuitive lyrics.
If it is the same Tim Weisberg, he teamed up with Dave Matthews in Dave's early days circa the end of the 1990s in a two CD live performance.
Does anyone remember Steve Goodman? He also died very young. He wrote a song that always evokes my deepest emotions.
The Dutchman
The Dutchman's not the kind of man
Who keeps his thumb jammed in the dam
That holds his dreams in,
But that's a secret that only Margaret knows.
When Amsterdam is golden in the summer,
Margaret brings him breakfast,
She believes him.
He thinks the tulips bloom beneath the snow.
He's mad as he can be, but Margaret only sees that sometimes,
Sometimes she sees her unborn children in his eyes.
Let us go to the banks of the ocean
Where the walls rise above the Zuider Zee.
Long ago, I used to be a young man
And dear Margaret remembers that for me.
The Dutchman still wears wooden shoes,
His cap and coat are patched with the love
That Margaret sewed there.
Sometimes he thinks he's still in Rotterdam.
And he watches the tug-boats down canals
An' calls out to them when he thinks he knows the Captain.
Till Margaret comes
To take him home again
Through unforgiving streets that trip him, though she holds his arm,
Sometimes he thinks he's alone and he calls her name.

Louise ~ Yes, I remember Steve Goodman. He wrote "City of New Orleans ', recorded by Arlo Guthrie, and covered by Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson (who I've seen numerous times) and others. I remember Steve Goodman's association with John Prine. I never got to see Steve Good man in concert but I did get to see John Prine a couple of times. All are wonderful singer/songwriters...

Thanks, Muffy. I didn't know Steve Goodman wrote the "City of New Orleans." He was so talented. I know it was covered by multiple artists. It has become a classic.
