Coventry Carol

I also have many others I look forward to hearing at this time of year.  Many fond memories.

Here are two Christmas songs I've always enjoyed...

Here Comes Santa Clause

Here comes Santa Claus!
Here comes Santa Claus!
Right down Santa Claus Lane!
Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer
are pulling on the reins.
Bells are ringing, children singing;
All is merry and bright.
Hang your stockings and say your prayers,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.

Here comes Santa Claus!
Here comes Santa Claus!
Right down Santa Claus Lane!
He's got a bag that is filled with toys
for the boys and girls again.
Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle,
What a beautiful sight.
Jump in bed, cover up your head,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.

And:

"Over The River And Through The Woods"

Over the river and through the woods
To Grandmother's house we go.
The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh
Through white and drifted snow.

Over the river and through the woods,
Oh, how the wind does blow.
It stings the toes and bites the nose
As over the ground we go.

Over the river and through the woods
To have a full day of play.
Oh, hear the bells ringing ting-a-ling-ling,
For it is Christmas Day.

Over the river and through the woods,
Trot fast my dapple gray;
Spring o'er the ground just iike a hound,
For this is Christmas Day.

Over the river and through the woods
And straight through the barnyard gate.
It seems that we go so dreadfully slow;
It is so hard to wait.

Over the river and through the woods,
Now Grandma's cap I spy.
Hurrah for fun; the pudding's done;
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie.

I don't know how I could forget Carol of the Bells. Of course the online version of the lyrics does not contain the beautiful voices and sounds.

****
Hark how the bells
Sweet silver bells
All seem to say
Throw cares away

Christmas is here
Bringing good cheer
To young and old
Meek and the bold
Ding dong ding
That is their song
With joyful ring
All caroling

One seems to hear
Words of good cheer
From everywhere
Filling the air

Oh how they pound
Raising the sound
O'er hill and dale
Telling their tale

Gaily they ring
While people sing
Songs of good cheer
Christmas is here

Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
On on they send
On without end
Their joyful tone to every home
Dong ding dong ding

My DH and I went last night to see "Nutcracker Suite" presented by the Austin Ballet.  We've attended several times, and each time I've enjoyed it.  I enjoy the music, as well as the dancing.

I ran across a book and CD a few years back.  It is really a great set of songs.  It is called "The Forgotten Carols."  Handel's Dream is more of a story told with music on that CD but it is very reflective.  All the songs are pretty much that way.

Here you go, Mrs Red :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlSsffF2xhA

An explanation of some of the Australian words:-
·   Boomers - large kangaroos
·   booming - The sound the large kangaroo make as they hit the ground with each jump
·   Joey - A baby kangaroo
·   Marble Bar - A town in central Australia

Six White Boomers

Early on one Christmas Day a joey kangaroo
Was far from home and lost in a great big zoo
"Mummy where's my mummy? They've taken her away"
'We'll help you find your mummy son, just hop up on the sleigh'

Up beside the bag of toys little Joey hopped
they hadn't gone far when Santa stopped
Unharnessed all the reindeer and Joey wondered why
Then he heard a far off booming in the sky

CHORUS:

Six white boomers snow white boomers
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun
Six white boomers snow white boomers
On his Australian run

Pretty soon old Santa began to feel the heat
Took his fur-lined boots off to cool his feet
Into one popped Joey feeling quite okay
While those old man kangaroos kept pulling on the sleigh

CHORUS

Joey said to Santa "What about the toys?
Aren't you giving some to these girls and boys?"
"They've got all their presents son, we were here last night,
This trip is an extra trip, Joey's special flight"

CHORUS

Soon the sleigh was flashing past right over Marble Bar
"Slow down there" cried Santa "it can't be far,
Come up on my lap here son, and have a look around"
"There she is, that's mummy, bounding up and down"

CHORUS

Well that's the bestest Christmas treat that Joey ever had
Curled up in his mother's pouch, all snug and glad
The last they saw was Santa heading northward from the sun
The only year the boomers worked a double run

CHORUS

.

Walkin' Round in Women's Underwear.

I've been wanting my DH's quartet to do this for years justfor fun and the lead is just too much of an old woman to agree to it.

That's funny right there.  I don't care who you are.

As I hummed Little Drummer Boy last night, I thought of Carol of the Bells and realized I couldn't remember the words.  Should have checked here.

I love Silent Night and Little Drummer Boy and Carol of the Bells.

And the story of why the Joey wasn't with his mum should be on the Animal Rights thread.   Wink
