katgram, even the cats and dogs curled nearby wanted to sleep in today, one of whom had never even seen a dusting of snow.  With the border collie close to the bed on the needlepoint rug replete with roses and monkeys, one cat on one pillow and the other with its tail squarely in my face, DH wakened us to look at the winter wonderland, snow covering the vehicles that slowly, almost to a dead creep, rode past taking in the Norman Rockwell look of a sleepy neighborhood in an empty-nester community where the hungry birds anxiously pecked around the holly bushes looking for the red berries glowing in the snow and their little ones pushing along the low lying areas of the curbs looking for any unfrozen water for hydrating their cold little bodies, the picturesque quietness was interrupted by the smell of coffee blasting forth, calling like a dinner bell from the countryside. 

Klaas asked if snow is uncommon in Birmingham.  It is almost unheard of but today was an unusual day and the power and gas bills which follow will make it even more unusual.  What is not known by many, is that our houses are not built for enduring long, cold winters and thus our heating bills can spiral out of control in times like these. 

But, Katgram, after hearing about your 40-below temperature, I will happily pay my bills knowing that the view was worth the bill and that in a few days, forsythia will be blooming while daffodils light the cooler but less cold days of winter, the bellwether of yet another wonderful spring.  

There are very few snows here and the last I recall as lasting long enough to warrant slowed traffic and out-of-work employees, was about 6 years ago.  It occurred more frequently in the late 1970s which also were preceded by summers of drought and little rainfall and by 1979, Jimmy Carter was predicting we were entering the ice age.  Now, they say we are entering global warming.  My experience is not as long and vast as others, but I say, we are having cyclical weather changes.

Ah and Tyler, your DH does make the best pot of coffee, even the virtual kind.  Many was the time we were all ready to pack it in for the night and he spurred us on with his fresh pot of coffee to look for just another hour or two.

We chased down things like Grindle Codes and Red Queen's races and hung out in chat rooms where foreign languages were being spoken on the hope we could understand.  We chased pedophiles in Thailand and Arabian Sheiks and one and one it went.  In those days there was news every day or at least one of us made a revealing discovery.  I often wonder just who was watching our efforts now seeing how things have turned out.

Our searches did not render what had become of Natalee but I do think we eliminated some possibilities or at least their being probable.  So say hello for me and tell him I just put on a fresh pot of coffee myself.

The Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association voted in a new board at its general assembly which took place at the Radisson Aruba Resort & Casino.

The owner of the Wyndham Aruba Resort Spa & Casino, businessman Alfonso Riveroll, became the new Chairman of the Board for the Association.

Fellow hotelier Ewald Biemans, Bucuti Beach Resort & Tara Suites, became 1st Vice Chair while Warren Stanley, Atlantis Adventure assumed the role of 2nd Vice Chair. Marriott General Manager Rick Zeolla will serve as Treasurer of the Association and Alex Nieuwmeyer, Divi & Tamarijn Beach Resort accepted responsibilities as the board’s Secretary.

Board members voted in are businessman Eduardo de Veer, Renaissance/Meta Corp; Banker Bill Carson, Caribbean Mercantile Bank; hotelier Scott Allen, Hyatt Regency; Director Peter Steinmetz, Aruba Airport Authority; Public Relations official David Smith, Valero Oil Refinery, Lisette Malmberg, De Palm Tours and hotelier Werner Hein, Occidental Resort.

Considering that he had "full knowledge of the case" ... I am convinced that Steve Cohen who was appointed spokesperson by the AHATA and the ATA was speaking from a foundation of knowledge when he stated at the conference that there had been an admission from two of the suspects ... admission that they had sex with Natalee Holloway.  Cohen never denied his quoted words in his feeble attempt at a retraction.

A coalition of groups announced Friday the appointment of Steve Cohen to act as spokesperson to North American media, in regards to the Natalee Holloway disappearance case.

AHATA and the ATA appointed Cohen to deal with all media relations concerning the case which still commands media coverage in the United States. Mr. Cohen has been part of the Strategic Communications Task Force since its creation in June. He has a full knowledge of the case and is an associate of the Strategic Message Design Group that has served in an advisory capacity to both ATA and AHATA.

The goal of this action is to coordinate the responses of the private and public sectors to North American media.

Aruba stays afloat through Natalie Holloway's investigation

"Anything DNA that is identified to be of Natalee's will allow us to bring a strong case forward against the three boys. We are also getting to finally talk to some of the Alabama teens who left on that plane and did not wait around for interrogation," said Cohen.
Aruba believes it is most important to get a hold of her mental state and most importantly, Natalee's physical state at the time of disappearance. "Two of the boys said they had consensual sex with her. Whether consensual or not, depends on her ability to be conscious and make a choice." said Cohen.

There are concerns about the statements regarding the investigations view of whether or not any of the suspects had consensual sex with Natalee Holloway. It was not my intention to suggest that they had admitted any such actions on the official record.

This cold here is unsual, but it will end and the spring will come. Once again.
We have extreme seasons up here. In the winter, the sounds are different. At night, it is the sounds of tires on packed snow that irritate me. In the spring when the rivers start to run, I always want to jump into the nearby creek like a kid.
I need a nap and I am going to dream of being at the lake of my childhood, floating in an inner tube, so far away from where a human can be heard or seen. That lake is still there, but the jet skis and the power boats have ruined the experience.

wow!!! You two blow me away!!! I was not here during those early days so I love hearing these stories!!! Anna, I am getting ready to go to a party but ya got me all mushy and I will send you a big long e-mail in the morning explaining why and you can send it on to Tyler. Jug treats his 2 children as if they are the most important, special people in the entire world, because to Jug they are, without a doubt. He treated Natalee and treats Matt the same way. They knew Natalee, were a part of Jug's life with Natalee, Matt, and Beth and they know there was no such crap even thought about. And they know Beth and her family well enough to know that IF it were true, they would have heard it from them, not from a bunch of refugee fo**ers and island idiots. BETH'S FAMILY CATEGORICALLY STATES THAT THERE IS NO TRUTH TO THAT RUMOR, FEEL LIKE JUG, AND HIS TWO KIDS ARE PART OF THEIR FAMILY, AND ARE PROUD TO CLAIM JUG, EVEN IF HE AND BETH HAVE SEPARATED. JUG IS A GOOD MAN, PERIOD, AS FAR AS THEY ARE CONCERNED. AND I GOT THAT FROM BETH AND HER MOM DIRECTLY, EMPHATICALLY.

What does Tourism have to do with the investigation of an 18 year old American citizen who went missing under suspicious circumstances on Aruban soil?

A spokesperson for the investigation who is appointed by the Tourism Minister is just another conflict of interest ... another of man ... which abound in the Natalee Holloway case.

Steve Cohen, special advisor to Aruba, came on the show hoping for a chance to talk to Beth about where the investigation stands today. Dr. Phil turns to Steve. "So, you're a paid consultant?" he asks.

"That's correct," Steve replies.

"And, who pays you?" Dr. Phil probes.

"I'm actually paid by the tourism industry, which is the Aruban Tourism Authority, and also a group called AHACA, which is an association of hotel owners on the island."

I may be the contrarian here, but knowing this is all bullshit and that two people are trying to get some attention at the expense of another family, I wish we would have ignored the latest sickening ploy coming from Aruba and left it to the refugees where it belongs, where all the trash belongs.
I just keep thinking that Jug has two children from his first marriage who are also affected by this bullshit. If I had to read that my father was accused of sexually assaulting my stepsister, I don't care who was doing the accusing, it would deeply affect me. There are 4 innocents in this mess. One, our beautiful Natalee lost her life as a result. Lets just be conscuois of the fact that there are still 3 other children of Jug and Beth that need to be protected from Aruba's slime.
This upsets me so much it is hard to even put it into words. Hope you all understand what I am trying to say. I just think by posting the story on the front page, we are giving more power to the ugly words and accusations these slimeballs are selling. Not that they are being believed, but that the more people who read them, the more people who are affected by them who would not be if they had stayed in the refugee trash section.

When someone is murdered, it's like a rock thrown into a lake. The hurt that it causes starts at the center and just ripples out further and further until it touches everything and everyone in that person' life. So many people are affected.

And Aruba has thrown that rock into the lake over and over again.......

I get your point but somethings you can't ignore and this was one. Jug could deal with it, probably just ignore it as he is pretty self confident and comfortable in his skin. But even strong men can use a little public display of support, and as much as Jug helped Beth and Matt, I felt speaking out supporting him was the least I could do. I would like to deliver him their head on a platter, and I haven't ruled that out, but for the time being visible written support will have to do.

I know what you are saying PI, and I am sure Jug can handle it and I know he knows the Monkeys support him 110%. It just his kids I feel bad for. My Dad is my hero as I am sure Jug is to his kids, it would just bug me to no end reading this crap about mt Dad, you know what I mean? It is just beyond low. and it just unnerves me.

LTSTLOU, as much as I appreciate your continued support of SM and Jug, and keeping us in contact with Jug, who IMHO, was the real hero of this story early on, I think you miss the point about this being brought to SM.  Had it stayed at RU and not been defended by SM and the Monkeys, then it would have remained out there on RU for those who lurk there and trust me, there are many, many people not only from the Birmingham area, but the MB area, specifically who lurk there and report its findings in the beauty and gift shops of MB, and had it not been defended by SM, it would be hanging out there as truth.  Should anyone stand by and not defend himself/herself?  Of course, not.  The reason God gave us love for mankind and a temper to defend that which is right against that which is evil.  JMHO, but to each his own.  I am appreciative to know it was out there and find another pebble in this large mountain of stones that Beth, Jug, Dave, et al, have built based on rumors out of Devil's Island to press on and litigate for their right to truthful disclosure.

Thanks Tyler. I am torn on this one. It's not Jug I worry about...I don't think anything they throw at Jug or Beth or Dave affects them anymore, they have been through it all. I just hurt for his kids who have to read this shit. I need to get a harder shell I think!!!

It should be remembered that most Americans do not have an indepth knowledge of the Natalee Holloways case.

These two loonies have been given credibility by the Aruban Minister of Justice who refers to them as "investigators".  If the mainstream American media picks up on these despicable accusations against the mother and stepfather of Natalee Holloway and ... these accusations are not challenged ... the implications regarding perception ...

As a daughter though, it just makes me ill to my stomach, but then again, everything Aruba has done for almost 3 years makes me ill to my stomach. As I said, I need to get a harder shell. I am not leaving this fight until Natalee is brought home!!! I will work on my shell!!

Anna, DH says he raises his cup to you and offers his "most brilliant girlfriend a slice of homemade carrot cake," but questioned if we ever decided if Paulus owns part of la Cabana or property nearby.  He is taking a renewed interest and trying to put pieces together that you had worked on earlier.

ldstlou ... you and I have often perceived the issues encompassing the Natalee Holloway case from different angles but ... bottom line ... we both have the same objective ... we want justice for this precious young lady and ... we want a measure of closure for her special family.

IMO, no I do not believe Paulus owns any of La Cabana nor any property nearby but there was that empty house the kids were said to have access to.  Don't know about that as a possibility.

I do wish he would return but do understand the frustration of not ever having any progress on this lame excuse for an investigation.
