I have now been logged in for 20 minutes and find it challenging to fit the contents of facts into the proper monkeys forum due to the complexity of what took place.  I will begin by requesting your understanding if this is not the proper forum.

A 4-day-vacation in Playa del Carmen Mexico turns tragic.  Brent Midlock is missing from the Occidental Grand Xcaret. The US Consular Affairs agent does not come to the aid of a desperate mother's plea for help.  Management at the resort did nothing to assist in looking for or finding Brent.  After guests looked for him for 20 hours the resort management decided to tell his family that he was found dead.  He was folded in half and dragged 10 feet into an open pipe. They took his young, lifeless body and treated him without any regard, respect, dignity or compassion. To date, the Occidental, their insurance carrier, Zurich of Switzerland and the Chicago law firm, Cremer,Kopon,Shaun

Anyone contemplating a trip to certain regions of Mexico must know that 1/3 of the non-natural causes of U.S. citizens deaths occur in Mexico.  It is notable that the US and Mexican governments choose to keep this fact quiet.  Also, in the past year the number of tourist deaths have increased at an alarming rate.  It is a documented fact that Brent is a victim of manslaughter due to the negligence of the resort.  The Mexican government refused to press criminal charges...because they did not interview any witnesses.

The Bush administration has presented a 1.4 billion proposal to the Foreign Relations committee to help control drug trafficking, crime and environmental protection to MEXICO.  Over the past few years neither government will protect the interests of U.S.citizens/tourists abroad.  There are many crimes; such as abductions, rapes, lack of safety/security that no one will address for fear that the Mexican Tourism Industry will experience a drop in revenue.  What an insult to all who remain missing and who have had their lives stolen!! On April 26th, 2003 Brent Midlock, his Mom, sisters went to the salt water swimming pool at the resort that they were transferred to after being told that where they were scheduled to stay was overbooked. The Midlock children were all on a swim team and were accomplished swimmers. They were snorkeling about 20 minutes when Nancy (mom) ordered drinks from the poolside waiter, and asked her oldest daughter to get her sister and brother because their drinks would be coming soon. Jana quickly returned and said that she could not find Brent. Immediately, Nancy got up to look in the pool and saw one of Brent’s fins so she quickly ran to the bathroom thinking he was there, but there was no Brent! The girls and Nancy began calling for him immediately and there was no response from Brent so they asked for security to come immediately. How could an 82 pound child disappear into thin air? His other sister found his snorkel tube about 400 feet away in the lagoon, and the hours ticked by but no one could find Brent.

The resort guests began to gather identifying the fact that there was a serious problem and within 2 hours had Amber Alert posters all over the resort. Nancy and the girls felt as though they were in the midst of a horror story, which proved to be a complete and total outrage that reached outside the limits of human decency.

Whenever the hotel management was asked what the status was regarding Brent, they would say “that we have no information”.

Most people that knew Brent felt that it was a privilege, he was kind, gentle, loved sports, loved his family, friends, and life. An innocent 8-year-old child named Brent McCoy Midlock had his future, his dreams, and his plans for a very bright life ended at the Occidental Grand Xcaret. Brent was violently pulled into one of three uncovered, underwater drainpipes in the little pool, shown above, at the resort. It pulled him in from behind, folded him in half, and compressed him two inches smaller then the width of his shoulders for ten feet. The Minesterio Publico used hydraulic “jaws of life” to remove his precious, lifeless body.  One of the rescuers was quoted by stating it was “incredible”. His little body was all bruised, scraped and cut by being dragged so violently into the pipe. The management never once attempted to explain what happened, but the next day the Cancun newspaper confirmed what had happened to Brent, and that is how his family found out. The Midlock’s were treated without any compassion or sympathy and Brent’s body was treated even worse, they left him out in the 80 degree temperature for so long and being compressed in the pipe with salt water allowed his skin to start slipping off his body. They embalmed him with methanol, a solution which hasn’t been used in 80 years in the U.S.

In an Associated Press article in April of 2004 and the TV press, the resort management said that the pool was working fine on the day of the tragedy.

Brent’s family will forever hold him near to their hearts, but it will always be with a great deal of pain and sorrow. Mr. Brent Midlock was one of a kind. The kind of child that everyone wanted to be around, the thoughts of all of his dreams and hopes for his future were ended at the Occidental Grand Flamenco Xcaret.

The Midlocks’ wish to extend thanks to so many people across the world that have communicated with them and offered such kind words of encouragement. This is a journey that should never be forced on any one that was so completely avoidable!

The "new" Mexican hot spot is the Riviera Maya area which includes; Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen. They are attempting to move tourists to Playa del Carmen area(about 45 minutes from Cancun). The Mexicans know once they have you their you are basically a captive audience---the routine is to overbook hotels and move you to wherever they want, and interestinly enough the Apple and FunJets do the booking at one place and then you are unknowingly transferred to another resort without being given a choice.

This writer has been very involved in the death of an 8 year old at the Occidental Grand Xcaret. The hotel officials have been quoted as stating the pool was working fine on the day that Brent Midlock was manslaughtered, and that they were not guilty. The resort was operating a salt water pool with 3 12 inch open drain pipes which violenty pulled Brent back 10 feet into the pipe from behind. The State of Quintana Roo produced a report that concluded with the fact that the hotel was guilty of negligence, but no one individual could be identified as guilty. An $86 million dollar resort with water feature after water feature, and no one knows anything about water??? The force that pulled Brent in was a force of 600psi, meaning that it folded him in 1/2 and crushed him in two inches from the width of his shoulders.
The report from the Mex. Gov is an insult filled with nonsense, and I find it outrageous that any State would allow such an outrageous report to be produced. I consider it to be a complete embarrasment.

This particular case has drawn much attention, and the only way Mexico will understand the outrage is by not patronizing the resorts that have the audacity to exhibit this type of disregard for life and safety.

It seems as though the family has been approached by several publishers and producers. This would really expose the Mexican tourism industry. When you steal the future of a child because you were too careless to put $3.00 covers over these pipes I believe that you should receive all the publicity you are worthy of.

WARNING----There is an aggressive marketing campaign "Beyond Your Expectations" to lure unsuspecting vacationers to Mexico.  The government and tourism industry is spending millions of dollars to entice citizens from the U.S. and Canada to select Mexico as a vacation destination.  What is important to know are the facts; tourist deaths in a variety of tourist destinations are increasing at alarming rates, you, a family member, or someone you know can DIE due to the lack of safety and security enforcement. Also, tourists are "disappearing", and others being kidnapped for ransom. It is essential to empower yourself with truth and facts before selecting a vacation destination outside of the U.S. or Canada.  Please refer to the following sites www.mexicoawarenessvacation.com; www.brentstravelwarning.com; www.hunterstravelwatch.com; www.travel.state.gov.  The goal is to save the lives of others by providing factual and truthful information, by doing so will allow you the opportunity of making informed decisions.
The death of Brent Midlock is HORRIFIC and SENSELESS!  He was KILLED by the incompetence of the owners/operators of the Occidental Grand Xcaret in Playa del Carmen.  "Together we can make a difference." Please read and share with others.

Please read and share the following information.

A coalition of victims' families has formed with the purpose of saving lives.  Lives can be saved by sharing facts and experiences of horrifying vacation tragedies.  We believe it is the right, not privilege for all citizens' to be informed of facts and truths prior to planning any vacation outside the United States.  Mexico diligently attempts to hide the alarming increases of tourist deaths and rather than resolving the growing problems they choose to entice tourists via promotions and price. Despite the aggressive "Beyond Your Expectations" the Mexican government and tourism industry truly does exceed the expectations of many travelers by the lack of safety, security and the inability to control crimes.  When reading the family stories you can be the judge.  Justice for the victims and/or families never prevails. Mexico has launched their most aggressive tourism promotion "Beyond Your Expectations" for 2008.  Over the past few years the number of tourist deaths in the "well-known regions" continues to escalate at alarming numbers.  In fact, Mexico Tourism accounted for 30% of all non-natural causes of American citizens' deaths in 2007.  Sadly, Canadian citizens' deaths are comparable.

The hardship and pain of having a child missing and killed on vacation by negligence is incomprehensible.  The profound sadness and loss can never be verbalized. The family suffers from life-devasting trauma.  Unfortunately, the affects of the consequences are not positive.

We ask that you share this information with everyone you know--"Together We Can Make A Difference".   Google Brent Midlock for detailed information regarding the multitude of family tragedies.  What you will read will shock you!
