U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect and Recover Two Missing Children


January 30, 2008
 
Portland, OR - Tonight at 6:30 PM, James Nelson Petty II, a 33 year-old white male, was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force, at the Silver Spur RV Park located at 12622 Silverton Rd., Silverton, Oregon. Incident to arrest, two minor children who had been listed as “Endangered Missing” on the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) website, were taken safely into protective custody.

On the NCMEC website, photographs of Anthony and Brooklyn Vincent are profiled along with the suspect photograph of James Petty. The brother and sister were last seen on July 29, 2007, and were posted “Endangered Missing” by the Elko Police Department in Nevada. Also present at the time of arrest were four additional children under the age of 12 years-old and one female adult. The female was not taken into custody. Marion County Department of Human Services responded to the arrest location and took all 6 children into protective custody.

The Oregon U.S. Marshals were able to act quickly on a tip from the U.S. Marshals Nevada Task Force who was assisting the Elko Police Department with their investigation. Also recovered at the time of arrest was a 41 foot 2008 model Weekend Warrior 5th wheel trailer that was allegedly purchased through fraud by James Petty.

James Nelson Petty II was transported by U.S. Marshals to the Marion County Jail where he was lodged on 5 outstanding warrants in 5 different states for the following charges: Counterfeiting (state of California), Grand Theft (state of Tennessee), Fraud Insufficient Funds by Check (state of Alabama), Illegal Use of Credit Cards-Grand Theft-Possession Stolen Property-Grand Larceny-Issue Checks Insufficient Funds (state of Nevada), Fraudulent Scheme and Artifice (state of Arizona).

The U.S. Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force is comprised of investigators from the U.S. Marshals Service, Portland Police Bureau, Oregon State Police, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Multnomah County Probation & Parole, Clackamas County Probation & Parole, and the Oregon National Guard. I'm really glad to hear that those children were recovered alive. I know their families must be so relieved.
