Wow! Buckeye.  Thanks for those links...looking at the route Joran would take on his way home, it appears that with Joran barefoot, it would be wiser to take the beach route.  At the least he would be on less hard surfaces.  Regardless, it places him at a location making a phone call at 2:26 AM.  So his telling that the boat guy came at 2:00 AM could fit if Joran is walking very fast....2:00 A.M. on the beach...talks to this guy, helps carry her out to the boat and then walks fast enough to get to the 2:26 AM location??? Take a look everyone...I don't think he walked....someone came to get him....look under photos and maps section and then Joran's route home A and B.

His son Mark Jr. is a bartender at Moombas.

It appears early on in the investigation, Mr. Purcell was found with a large quantity of Rohypnol, commonly known as a date rape drug. When asked about it, he claimed it was for "personal use." His wife backed up that claim, saying "Mark needs it to masturbate."

Purcell has blogged on the subject of Natalee Holloway using the screen name MIP6. He has trashed the Holloway family and Beth Holloway in particular. His activity on a Dutch funded site Blogs for Natalee is part of an effort by the murdering Van der sloot defenders to steer blame away from Joran van der sloot.

Mark Purcell, escaping his bankruptcy in the U.S. had his skin lightened, his belly enlarged and his propencity for lying in hyperdrive all to be accpted by the lowlife Dutch on the island of Aruba. "He kisses more Dutch ass than a drug addict in Amsterdam," said an official in Aruba.

Seems the bloated Mr. Purcell has some very Dutch traits, most notably, thin skin. Like the rest of the cowards in Aruba, he is unhappy with what some are saying about him.

"There was the time at the Marriott's Christmas party when Mark had too much to drink and did his impersonation of the Dutch boy with his finger in the dike. Marlene was unaware that she was to be the dike and was quite surprised by the re-enactment" said a friend.

He is believed to be seeking a transfer to the opening of a new Marriott in Bodie, Nevada.

He might have called Paulus...but it definitely was NOT to ask permission to do anything.
Probably to set up an alibi for Paulus who was really in the parking lot.

Someone please help my feeble old mind...wasn't this the witness that gave his testimony before a Judge and was deemed credible...may have been from Dave's book

Carlos Alberto Penata Ramos (DOB 2-25-79, Cartagena, Columbia) - the gardner witness who claims to have seen 3 boys in Deepak’s car on the dirt road by the pond at the Racquet Club on 5-30-05 at approximately 2:30 AM.  Identifies Joran in front seat, Deepak in passenger seat, and unidentified male in rear seat.  Claims passenger has hand up besides face, and the driver (identified as Joran) is sitting far back in the seat. His employer was Eric Mansur.

joran did it,but he left alot out of that confession, he didnt mention how papa sluutis involved or vander straten eiather, remember vds wanted to set joran up in a mental hospital instead of jail.  thry all knew what he did,and they all helped him cover it up.  there is more that need to come out on this story.  Bless Natalees family for the heart renching rollercoaster that they have been put through. sl

That's how I remember it...and Beth said Deepak got so scared he called a friend for an alibi...she contacted the FBI..

Maybe Joran simply switched shoes with someone else.

That's a very good video, too.  7:26, pretty good detail, enough so they can hear the gist of what Joran had to say.  No way to feign ignorance about it all now!

I am sorry folks!  You don't call a friend for an alibi without knowing you will really, really, need one.  If all you did was drop off Joran and Natalee at the beach.  There is more to this and it involves the Kalpoes in some way...Joran has a reason to keep them out of it this time...they know more...Freddy needs to tell the truth.  If only.

The televised confession by Joran van der Sloot, the main suspect in the Natalee Holloway case, confirms its status as the biggest story to hit the Dutch media in years. Today's newspapers devote pages and pages to the issues raised by Sunday's broadcast but can't seem to agree on its significance: AD leads with "Joran now a murder suspect" while the headline in the NRC Handelsblad cautions "A televised confession still isn't proof".

The two-hour TV show that crime reporter Peter R. de Vries built around the hidden camera revelations attracted over seven million viewers, more than any Dutch TV programme this century. "Princess Máxima's tears pale by comparison" says the NRC Handelsblad, reporting that Sunday's show attracted over one million viewers more than Máxima's marriage to Crown Prince Willem-Alexander. Sister paper nrc.next describes the broadcast as "a national event".

De Telegraaf says the show had "an overwhelming impact" on Dutch viewers and presents the results of a poll among its readers, 88 percent of whom now think Joran is guilty of murder or manslaughter. But at the same time, 53 percent also think the authorities don't have a strong enough case against him.

Joran hunters


AD reports on a bizarre twist to the Holloway story in the town of Drachten, where rumours circulated that Joran van der Sloot had been sighted entering a local apartment block. This turned out to be bad news for one of the residents, named Johan.

The paper describes how a crowd of "Joran hunters", some curious and some furious, "laid siege" to the unfortunate Johan's home. The situation went from bad to worse "when a television report showed the number of his flat and his protestations of innocence through the intercom didn't sound very convincing". When a number of the "Joran hunters" managed to get into the building, the housing association was forced to call in a security firm.

With public sentiment against the real Joran van der Sloot being so strong since the broadcast, AD quotes Professor of Criminal Law Ybo Buruma as saying "he has a right to government protection".

Hero's welcome


While the TV show seems to have made Joran public enemy number one, it's had quite a different effect on Patrick van der Eem, the man who befriended Joran and got him to confess for the hidden camera. "Undercover man given hero's welcome" is the front-page headline in De Telegraaf, describing how floral tributes were pouring in and the telephone was ringing off the hook.

The paper reveals that in the midst of all the congratulatory messages he received a call from Joran van der Sloot himself. "He was in tears", the undercover hero revealed. "He's a broken man. But I don't have a shred of sympathy for him."

Interview With Cromvoirt Acquaintance
Though currently studying abroad, I was able to establish contact and do a brief phone interview with a young American girl acquainted with current detainee in the Natalee Holloway investigation, Geoffrey van Cromvoirt.

She is still somewhat shaken by news of his arrest, particularly as it was June 9th, 2005, the night Joran Van der Sloot and the two Kalpoe brothers were arrested, when she met GVC at Carlos and Charlies. She was able to provide the day of the week, Thursday, which matches with the night of the three boys arrests. After speaking with her, I've no reason to doubt her veracity.

GVC was alone at Carlos and Charlies that night keeping mostly to himself. She could only remember him saying hello to one other person passing by that night in the club. After some initial eye contact, it was she who approached GVC. He immediately appeared to open up.

One item of possible interest, he told her that he worked during the day taking tourists out on a Catamaran. While I have no way of ascertaining it was the same catamaran, I do recall photos taken by the Mountain Brook students showing that they did take such a trip.

GVC struck her as something of a self promoter, constantly talking about himself, his many connections and his family's supposed wealth. She also recalled seeing images of some famous individuals he had stored in his cell phone, noting that GVC did not appear with those people in said pictures. Still, he insisted they were friends.

On another night, she may have been less receptive to the seemingly brash young man, but she found him attractive, she was on vacation and the two eventually danced. She indicated that there were no drugs involved, though both were drinking. At some point, GVC offered her a ride to her hotel and a male friend of the young woman went along.

GVC did apparently brag about being involved with security, trying to exert some pressure on a hotel guard to acknowledge who he was. The guard apparently failed to acknowledge him in any significant manner. She believes he was driving a jeep at the time, possibly blue and that he also mentioned a recent or pending purchase of a truck, color unknown.

Back at her hotel, it was decided that he would leave behind his ID and possibly some other wallet contents with her friends as security before the two went back out alone together. They spent approximately a half an hour or so together, primarily on the beach. The only potentially unusual thing she noticed during their time on the beach was that he might have been a bit nervous, looking about - at one point claiming he saw a security guard coming. She could not see a guard.

After some time on the beach his cell phone started ringing but he did not answer it. She believes it rang several times in succession, possibly as many as seven times. When she inquired about the calls, he stated that it was his Mother and that he had to get home. He kept reiterating, he had to go. She was puzzled at this as she believed him to be 19 years old at the time.

After a night of being extremely talkative, mostly about himself, she did eventually ask him in a casual way about the Natalee Holloway case. She feels very strongly that it was at that point his demeanor significantly changed. He almost completely stopped talking while the two were walking, swiftly now, back to her hotel.

She asked a few different questions ... if he knew of the case, of those involved, what was it that he thought. But he did not answer any of those questions, or change the topic. He mostly just stopped talking at all. They returned to her hotel, a friend brought down his things and that was the last she saw of him until his recent arrest. She felt he all but took off running, likely related to the phone calls, as he left.

Later after leaving the island, the interaction did leave her with a strange feeling, mostly because of his sudden silence when the topic of Natalee Holloway came up. Unsure if it meant anything, or not, eventually she did call the FBI. She gave them what information she could as regards the encounter, much of which I have now relayed here.

It remains unclear what, if any connection GVC has to the Holloway case. But at least one individual who spent some time with the boy soon after the disappearance was troubled enough about his demeanor simply talking about the case to make a call to the FBI.

I have agreed to keep her identity secret.

According to what Holloway's friends have told authorities, the blond-haired, blue-eyed van Cromvoirt was seen with their classmate after she left van der Sloot - the pals say they saw them in the Holiday Inn casino together. But when the casino's video surveillance tapes were turned over to police, investigators could find no sign of Holloway and van Cromvoirt, the source noted.

Van Cromvoirt's father is the security expert in charge of video surveillance at the hotel.

Aruban authorities are also scrutinizing a surveillance tape taken earlier on May 30 that shows Holloway arguing with a light-haired young man in a jewelry store in the Wyndham Hotel, according to the source.

Who did he switch with?   The boat guy?  He knows those shoes are his number one problem...he has to explain why.  I think he did throw them away...the question is where and why?  Someone came to pick him up...Joran could not have done what he said and then got in place to make that cell call if he walked barefoot.  It's only 26 minutes from the time boat guy arrives to the time that call is made in a location that takes at the least 15 -20 mins. of walking. Factor in the conversation and carrying the body out to the boat and it is a close call either way...if it is at all possible.
