I was 19 years old at the time. My father had just died on August 11, 1977. He was 44 years old. While the rest of the world was grieving the loss of Elvis, I was in my own little pit of agony with the rest of my family. I did not begrudge others their grief, I could not muster any additional sorrow at the time for The King.

JustinsMama, my mom also died that year, July 14, 1977.  Wasn't nothing good about that year except the first Star Wars movie.

For real. It sucked big time. He did not even get to see me go to college.

I've been in an oldies mood lately and listening to the Totally 70's SIRIUS channel right now.

I love Janis Joplin, Patsy Cline.  Such fine voices.


Adore Marvin Gaye.. too... and Old Earth, Wind and Fire.... and Stevie Wonder... and RAY Charles.. Sam and Dave.. ohh... love it all!!

How about the Japanese Prime Minister being such an Elvis fan?        

Always liked to listen to Elvis but I live near Tupelo so he sounds like home.  Can't imagine what he sounds like to a Japanese, though.  

That guy is a hardcore fan!!  I have never been to Graceland and have relatives in Memphis and go there to gamble some times.  Sort of funny for a head of state to be like that!

. Yeppers, Jacquie, that is what I saw, too.  That smile!!   He was just thrilled.  I am not sure anything would make me that happy which tells me something is wrong with my value system!  Needs an adjustment down to finding joy in more simple aspects of life.  Simplify!

Love it... and I had that discussion with a friend ealier today...    because the area I live in can be so pretenious... in fact if you say I can't afford that... they think you must be really rich to have confidence to utter I can't afford....   true story... LOL

There has not been much really, really good music since the 60's and 70's. Those were awsome days, what with the revolution of civil rights.

While on my way to work one morning this past week, I heard a fabulous song playing from the car next to me at a stoplight. I tried to get the guy's attention to ask who was the artist. He did not respond. He was into the music.
