Mrs. Red, there is another movie coming out based on Steve Hodel's book? I haven't heard anything about it. Do tell.

No, it was not a Hollywood movie shoot. They go on all the time around here. There are huge trucks set up, many police, a food pavilion and a whole lot of people. What I stumbled onto was a small, private filming.

Louise,
Dana Pretzer is going to be doing an interview with Steve Hodel - we need to be sure and ask about that.   As far as George Reeves goes, Dana did a show on the man who wrote the book that Hollywood Land is based on... we can listen to that podcast again and discuss it if you would like...

Hey y'all!  When there's a lull, would anyone be interested in discussing Chandra Levy?  That has fascinated since it happened ~ remember Gary Condit was the only person to benefit from 9/11  Crying or Very sad .

Louise ~ you might need to jet to D.C. to get pics for us!  Wink  Shocked

Tcumom,
I will be happy to discuss Chandra.  Let's open a new topic thread for her - she should have her own thread.

Dear Carnut,

Thank you so much for getting the addresses of George Reeves and Marilyn Monroe.

George Reeves - 1576 Benedict Canyon Drive
Marilyn Info - 12305 5th. Helena Drive, Brentwood

I will be visiting those locations in the upcoming week to take pics.

I am starting an offshoot thread on Marilyn Monroe because I have more to say and I think she should have her own thread.

I saw the movie today and it was not very good at all. I wont post many details as not to spoil it for the rest of you planning on seeing it. I do want ya'll to see it so we can discuss it.
The first 20 minutes are all about a stupid boxing match that has nothing to do with the movie. Brian de Palma should be ashamed of how badly he did this movie with all the potential that it had. There is one early scene that looked like it was taken straight out of West Side Story! I found myself wanting to laugh at times. de Palma never settles on one style for the movie. It ends up looking like a big mix of every filming technique in the book!
I'm not sure if ANYTHING in the movie was real and accurate. All the characters are fake and all their convoluted intertwining stories are fake. There are way too many names of people that we are supposed to remember in order to connect the dots. I'm not sure how I feel about "solving" a real murder with fake people and circumstances. Why not have made the movie from Steve Hodel's accounts? He acctualy has real people and real theories.
They throw everything at you in the last 30 minutes and for me it was just so unbelievable.
Brian de Palma likes to say it is darker than LA Confidential. That's only because he insists on showing the audiance the gruesome body. Sure there's a gay club here and a mob guy there but it doesnt show the underbelly of Hollywood like dePalma says. He could have done that but he wasted way to much time on other things in the film.
So I was dissappointed.

Spooky,
Thanks for that information.  I have not heard nor read one good review on the movie so I likely will be skipping it as I am not a movie person and tend to see most of them much as you describe--too inaccurate.

This case has intrigued me for years but I fear getting yet another obsession like the one I have about Natalee and am almost afraid to know too much. . . .BUT does anyone know what would be THE definitive book on this?  Do we believe Hodel (sp?) or is he seeking fame himself?

Is the latest always the best book for information?  Will there be others coming out any time soon or is this it for now, just a little flash in the pan then this tragedy gone for another decade or so?

So I think I will go to the website and read a bit more soon as I have time and try for a book myself on the subject.  I don't think I could sit through a DePalma movie.   Embarassed

Spooky,
Thanks for the review, I think I will pass on it... and wait for the movie based on Steve Hodel's book.

Dana is going to be doing a show with Steve Hodel as a guest.

I watched AMW on Saturday when they brought forward the name of another doctor that seemed to have mental disease... I think his name was "Bell"... they also showed where he actually knew Elizabeth Short.  Her body was found 1 block from his house as well.

I do think that given the state she was found in, one of the doctors accused has to be the real killer.

Yes, I think so too. In the movie they only threw out "and I think his father was a doctor." They hardly even addressed the fact that she was cut in half. Instead choosing to focus on the slashing to her face.  The entire plot becomes centered around a porn tape that she was in. I've never heard anything about any porn tape, have you? And that's my point. My make stuff up?

No I have never heard of that... was porn all that prevelant in 1947?  I think that is a fairly new kind of obsession, I mean playboy didn't even start until 1962 I think.. maybe i am wrong, but I don't think I believe that angle....

AGREED. Elizabeth Short was unable to enjoy intercourse due to an abnormality of her vagina, therefore, I doubt if she was involved in any kind of porno movie.

well i was trying to not get into too many details about the film as not to spoil it for those that choose to see it but yes, they show her graphically in a porn movie with another woman and they play up the "poor Betty in a porn movie" angle. showing her crying in the porno. the cop watching it goes off the deep end. it's all fiction. and it pisses me off!! why turn her into this just to sell a story??
this is how the main character "figures it out" he connects the dots because of the porno. He goes and finds the "set" of the porno and then finds a locked garage type area next to a stream with a gruesome bloody mattress and black hairs.
they also show a lot of "screen tests" with Betty talking to the camera, obviously trying to humanize her. But ARE there real screen tests out there of her? I dont think so, not that I've heard of.
I would love it if one of ya'll would go see the movie just to back me up here. Cause I dont know everything about this case and I want to make sure what I am saying is accurate. I just get madder and madder as I talk about it.
do ya'll want me to tell you who the killer is in the movie or wait a while longer so some can see it? it is so utterly fake and unbelievable anyway but I dont want to spoil the movie for anyone.

I don't care if you tell spooky.  I will not see it either.  I have read to much about the case to be able to put that much credence into this particular angle.  I was more interested in what could be plausable than a more fictional movie.  Sounds like the victim is getting victimized again.

LV, thanks for the pictures. Last night I watched the new NBC show, Studio 60, and one of the scenes took place in that house.

Jennifer, you are so right about them victimizing her again... it's sad!

Misgivings, I started reading that link... and I didn't expect to see those pictures... Shocked  OMG... those are graphic... WOW!!!

I have read a lot about it... and I still say it's one of the three doctors.... the America's Most Wanted stuff was interesting.  John Walsh interviewed two of the original policemen that worked on the case.. maybe we can get them to do an interview for Dana... I will work on that..to see if he can find them, etc.

LV...the NBC show segment of Studio60 can be seen at their website. I wonder if you walked in on a taping for the new series?! Look under the Studio60 section of the series, sub title (Jordan). The LW house is there. I showed my daughter the pics you posted, and she and I watched the show last night, was really neat, and you are correct, they use that house often as a filming site. I am sure there are many secrets behind those walls.
