I've been meaning to say this forever but I keep forgetting - I'm getting old I guess.

There is one area of Aruba that is very very lucrative and legal....wanna guess? that's right the jewelry businesses. Over the years I would always buy my girlfriend something from one or two of the store where I became friends with the owner.

Little Europe was probably my favorite because I liked Sonny so much.

So what does this have to do with anything? probably nothing, but, everyone that seems to work or own these stores is from Suriname and of Indian decent. I understand that all of these people live in the same area and are a very close knit community. This is an area that seems to have escaped any discussion over the years. And I would think that the boycott and the decline in tourists have just about bankrupted some of these stores. They obviously have a lot to lose.

Just wondering if there is a connection to Suriname and the Kalpoes that could go through these jewelry stores?

probably not...

I wonder why the Kalpoes step dad is the only one we never hear about...lions den and VIp both owned by suriname.

Ringo did not go to Aruba with BestBuddy.

I have contacted BB. She can come here and post the truth if she wishes.

Thanks for clearing that up...so Bestbuddy did meet with Anita while there.  Wonder how that went?  I bet that was interesting. Do any of you know if she met Paulus?  I just wonder how much he really sweats in person.

Can you launder money through jewelry stores?  Is that possible?  I have never understood how that works.

Hello all you Tango Monkeys!  I haven't posted here in quite a while, but I have been trying to read back through the posts on this thread today. (I'm working too, so the reading is slow.)

I find the new information fascinating and I really hope it helps provide the answers Natalee's family should have.

If I understand Caps to this point he is saying that Steve Croes is not who we think he is and is more involved than originally suspected.  Right?

Also, the apartments and that entire location makes a lot of sense.

Well, sorry, I don't have any great new insight, but I hope to have more time to get back into the Tango business!

Keep it going!

Who was the lady Geraldo interviewed? She was introduced as Steve Croes' mother. Was she an actress? I don't think she was connected to Rudy or Hendrik. JMO.

Erie it was to stand inside the Excelsier Casino. I expected it to be bigger. For such a small space, the room contained over 100 cameras. The poker dealers were at least in their forties. Some men and some women.

I observed the Tattoo party boat for about an hour from a distance. I have video and hope to have it up tomorrow. There were two young men who looked like they were working and cleaning the boat for some time. They were using a small white dinghy to go back and forth from the beach to the boat docked off shore.

At 4:30 PM the Tattoo was driven into the small harbor in front of the Holiday Inn. At 5:15 PM the boat headed south. I could not see where it went. At 1:45 AM, Friday morning, I have not seen the Tattoo lit up out on the ocean. If it went out for a party, it was not on the hotel side of the ocean in my view.

Walking the beach path from the Holiday Inn to the Marriott Hotel, my husband pointed out the absence of lighting in some areas and the lack of adequate security cameras. It was dark. We spotted one camera in the parking structure at the Marriott.

“Beauty and the Beast” is a bar between the two hotels. It has a road leading to it running along the side of a newly built hotel with ongoing construction. It is the only road we passed leading from the main road to the beach. In darkness the road does not appear to be paved.

Merian Earnest used a signature “Oh No, It wasn’t the airplane.” In the movie “King Kong”, that statement is famous and is finished with, “It was beauty that killed the beast.” It was interesting to find a bar at the end of a non paved road called “Beauty and the Beast.”

The tiki lamps burning real fire was a surprise. There were at least four, six to eight foot tall tiki lamps on the beach side of the “Beauty and the Beast” bar and six smaller fire lamps inside the covered open area section of the bar. Someone has to light them every night. Shango was always stating “light the fires.” There are many fires to be lit at that bar.

Passing the bar to approach the Marriott from the Holiday Inn, the path begins it’s only brick paved section.

That’s all for tonight. Cameras are charging. The Mr. is snorring. I’m going to bed.

8:15 AM Aruba
Friday Sept. 2, 2005

Tattoo is at its mooring.

Joran to be release from KIA jail.

"Aruba Today" Newspaper

On the front page in bold letters, the papers screams:

“Joran van der Stoot to be released”

“The judge on Thursday ordered the release of Dutch teenager who has been jailed for nearly 3 months in the disappearance of an Alabama honors student and said he will be released this weekend, the youth’s father and attorney said.”

The paper goes on to quote “Red from Scared Monkeys” in his discussion reported yesterday (on the front page of SM) with Natalie’s uncle, Paul Reynolds.

Further the paper quotes Anita Van Der Sloot: “The mother of a Dutch suspect Joran Van Der Sloot said her son was innocent of new allegations that he and three friends took pictures of another girl in “tempting poses”.

She believes the incarceration of her son Joran and the earlier arrests were an attempt to “get the boys to talk.” “But there is nothing to talk about. Nobody takes this nonsense seriously.” Anita is quoted.

Mrs. Sloot believes her son was present when pictures were taken of another girl in her bathing suit.

She closes with, “I believe in the judicial system of my country. I believe in my son’s innocence.”

“Thank God, your not the press!”

These were the first words I heard Anita Van Der Sloot say to me this morning after they arrived at the KIA at 10:00 AM this morning.

Once Again our Morning Coffee Informant steered us on a bum rap. We were told Joran Van Der Sloot was to be released at 10:00 AM this morning. We raced to the KIA to find we were the only ones there. We sat in our rented car that screams TOURIST all over it and wondered.

What the heck is going on here! Before we could figure it out, a small car entered the prison parking lot and as it turned the corner I spotted Paulus Van Der Sloot driving.

He spotted our tourist vehicle and decided to pick a parking spot away from us. Before I could say, “look”, Mr. Bestbuddy was talking to him. Anita was standing beside her husband. I went over.

With tears in her eyes and a sad, tired expression, Anita said: “Thank God, your not the press.” After my introduction to them and hand shaking, Mrs. Van Der Sloot showed concerned for us being in the hot sun and told us to come back at 2:00 PM in order to see her son released.

The Van Der Sloots will be giving a live press conference today at 4:00 PM from their home.

Shango, I will tell her of all the support and love.

I dropped off all the letters at Beth's hotel this morning. The front desk confirmed she was there and would receive them.

hey, is the white haired man in the picture the merriwether( sp.) guy. that organized the protest against beth? sorry do not want to offend the good people but that group is one big happy cult!

It's interesting you asked who he is. I thought I was the only person who did'nt know that guy behind the police barrier giving direct orders to the Aruban Police Department. He spoke perfect English. I thought he ran the jail.

He tested the speakers, told the press where to stand, lined up the guards and when he was done he came over to me and asked what press I was with.

After I told him I was a tourist, he drilled me on where I was from and asked if my back pack was searched.

NO sir my backpack has not been search. He proceeded to order an Aruban Police Officer to come over to me and search my bag.

The kind officer was so polite. He kept apologizing to me. He reported verbally the contents of the bag as he came across each item.

" Mam do you know you have a loose one dollar bill in here?" And you have a comb and I'm sorry, and a purse, I'm sorry and so on.
God have mercy on any man that has to search my back pack.

The National Enquirer reporter upon me asking, "Who is that guy", said, (again in my words)" he is the private investigator the Van Der Sloots hired from California." I think it was The National Enquirer guy. Well anyway, he let me take a picture of him. I have not confirmed for sure that the information supplied by the reporter is correct. He could be a cousin of my "Morning Coffee Informant." Hmmm! I may have been had.

You probably know more about the white haired guy than I do. He seemed important so I took a lot of pictures of him.

I will say something about that guy. He sure did protect the Van Der Sloots. If you ever get trouble, I suggest you look him up. You would definitely want the white hair guy on your side.

If you find out who he is, could you please let me know!

Thanks Rocky

OMG Shocked

We got lost on the way to the Van Der Sloot house. We thought we were early for the conferance but instead we were late. Nobody was there except a lady with a camera and a police car.

You might want to dispell those rumors.

A lady came up to us. She said she was with AP. She told us that the conference was over. The police officer started taking down the tape the press needs to stand behind. He never said a word to us. We left.

I don't think whoever wrote that story meant us.

That's ridiculas!

The sneaker?

Hi There,

Poster, "Walnut" posted about the tip yesterday on "Where would you look on Aruba"

The pictures were taken today, Sunday. I could not find anyone there digging yesterday.

The Raquet Club is right in the star's path also. Good point!

The sneaker? I have lost my flip flops several times. There is very soft mud around the Fishermen Huts area.

Hello, bestbuddy. Very nice photojournal. Ty for sharing.

I have a question about the Beauty/Beast establishment.

Google came up with this. B/B is a boutique located in Arawak Gardens, it is the first in a series of nine to open, across the Allegro resort on Palm Beach.

Could you elaborate a bit please?

TIA

Thanks for checking the post.

Beauty and the Beast sign is very interesting to me also. I need to go back there.

I time lined Shango's posts and noticed that the fires are lit at @2:30 PM on two separate days. On another day, "Preparing the fires" was at 1:30 PM.

Right by the B and B sign outside, there is a bar which has many tiki lamps with real burning fire that need to be lit.

Just curious!

ONE HAPPY ISLAND

When asking about the disappearance of Natalie Holloway, it is common to hear how a missing person can happen anywhere, how America is filled with crime and how many missing people there are in the US. The answers to what happened that dreadful Sunday night becomes a lesson on “Crime in America.”

For an island of people who call the Haystack hill a "mountain", the trivialization of the disappearance of Natalie is astonishing. Often we would hear how the media was here and blew the story up, how the internet is spreading rumors of prostitution rings and illegal drugs and how potential tourists are believing such stories and canceling reservations.

About one thousand dollars a month our regular bartender believes the media frenzy is costing him. He is mad. He blames the news stations, he blames the reporters, he blames internet bloggers, but not once was the absence of knowledge in the whereabouts of Natalie Holloway the problem. The fact that a young girl with a bright future went missing while vacationing on “One Happy Island” never passed through his lips. Does this mean it never entered his mind?

Good one Shango.

I know he is not taking the Dice out if he is a working captian. The boat never moved while I was there.

The word on the island is that many fishermen can not go out because of the price of gas. Some restaurants have limited fish on the menu.

Taxis can be any type car and any color.

Carlos and Charlies is on a one way street. Across the street from Carlos and Charlies is a construction site. There were several men with equipment working there (day time). It appeared to be well fenced.

When you take the first right turn to exit from C & C, there is a vacant lot and no lights to the right and what appears to be wood against a fence to block the view of the cruise ship area on the left. The first thing we noticed is how dark it must be at night. We could not locate any security cameras.

The cars are forced to take another right to enter the main street. Before the main street is the internet cafe on your right.

On the main street you can go either south to San Nicolas or left to Noord. The hotel areas are left.

Sorry to blow the margins. I don't know how to stop it.

Hi Zealot

I remember the mention of the Black Team.

I looked for them but I never saw any Black Team people.

That guy sure looks like the other guy to me.

From what the National Inquirer guy told me, (I know) Merriweather is from the states. I think California. He went to Berkely. I think it was him that went to Berkely. I forget, as soon as I heard "Berkely," I had a sudden urge to smoke a joint and acquire short term memory loss. Oh well, I had a flashback to tie-dyed shirts and headbands. I totally zoned out! I don't know, but someone went to Berkely. Merriweather now lives in Aruba.

Merriweather said to me while I was being searched, (something like) "I don't think you would do anything but I think your boyfriend would." Shocked

We both looked at Mr Best and I said, "Your Kidding?"

Merriweather was like, "No I'm not! I wouldn't put it past that guy." Shocked

I told Merriweather that there was no way Mr. Best would do anything and Merriweather insinuated that Mr. Best may have faked me out. Shocked

Hmmmm!

Must have been Mr. Best's tattoos?

I remember NativeLingo posting re this incident w/ the dog, that she heard it from the classmate's aunt. (LCD 8/6) This was at the same time she posted re learning from the receptionist of the mental health clinic where JVDS was being treated: "And yes....he has/had emotional problems......he was/ is a patient of a local pediatric/Juvenile Psychiatrist..... (Fact)" Also: "When I asked the "source" if she was talking about the dog thing, or bullying friends, she told me those were the least of his problems...."

I always find it interesting to look at the inauguration photos of a president & compare them w/ photos from the end of his term; there's usually quite a difference: stress/responsibility is very visible. These first 2 links are photos of JVDS early in his detainment, compare to the release photos 2 months later. Remarkable. I've seen these same visible differences in people when they're on/off their psych meds.

Found this about his son, doesn't mean much... Herby Merryweather is captain of a boat named "Dorothy". I just recognized the name when I was looking for info on Merryweather.

There's info on some other boats in Aruba on the same site.

yeah, i saw that, too, chicago.

you find much about Merryweather?

May

It looks like he is the chairman for Casa del Mar. I think Casa del Mar and the Aruba Beach Club are associated with each other.

Here's the newsletter that came our right after he became chairman.

You can see the other newsletters here:

His name appears in them, too.

He also wrote a book about Aruba

http://www.madurolibrary.org/html/library/books/antilliana/m.html

Merryweather, John W.
A pictorial résumé of natural, historical and cultural monuments of Aruba
/ by John W. Merryweather. -
Aruba : De Wit Stores, 1972. - 56 p. : ill. ; 25 cm.

Here's a link for another Merryweather. Related to John?
http://www.visitaruba.com/attractions/whatson/carnival2001/lighting.html

"Organizer Linche Merryweather is well known for her ability to attract folks with deep pockets capable to footing bills for spectacular creations."

Read the entire paragraph in that link, because the family names Jansen, Merryweather, and Mansur were all involved in that particular float in the parade. Not sure if any of them are related to the other Karin, John, or Jossy.

there are 4 other license plates visible in the photo; evidently none have paid their taxes as they do not display the same attached tax ID as the Jetta featured in the Sat Sep 10, 2005 11:14 pm post by bestbuddy

from Clint Van Zandt's commentary:

"As I walked out of the bar the cabs and cars drove by. Some were looking for fares, while some were just cruising, checking out the nightlife in the area. In Aruba it can be hard at times to tell a private car from a cab. If you play detective you can spot the special license plate decal on registered cabs, if, that is, you go to the rear of the car to look for it. Sometimes there's a small, plug-in sign on the dash of the car that says "taxi," and sometimes the driver even has a CB-like radio. But other times a car rolls up and when you climb inside you see nothing that suggests it is a cab. This happened to me twice. When I asked, the driver said his "real" taxi was being repaired, so he was driving a friend's car. The reality is that you have about five seconds to decide whether to get into the car or not. It's hard to know if it's a real taxi, perhaps a situation that Natalee, like me, accepted at face value."
