And if we ever actually stumble on this Duary or whomever, then he will get his just reward now. But there is no sense going off chasing or blaming an illusion at this point. And maybe it isn't a massive coverup, but the local dirty dutch and Rudy are certainly conspiring to cover it up. And scripted or not, Patrick managed to get Joran to prove he was a druggie, Natalee went in a semi coma in his presence and care, and he had her dumped in the ocean not knowing that she was dead, so he murdered her. When we find her a can do an autopsy, then we can determine if she died before she was drowned. But, no body, no autopsy, thus murder.

(I hope I trimmed this up right.)

OK so my thinking on 'no body no case' moved forward to current info Joran has admitted doing away with Natalee dead or alive (with a friend maybe) means that he cannot even prove that she was deceased, yes? Doesn't Geen lijk geen zaak backfire on Joran in this case? It wasn't a body he so cavalierly disposed of, he's basically admitted murder and cannot prove that he didn't?

Holy cow!! Granny toad in the Monkey Cage???!!
I love it!!!

Don't want to seem "star stuck" lol...but this Lady has a wealth of knowledge on the case!! Hope the new posters will pick her brain..lots of good stuff in there..imho!!

Izaak Cohen was born on June 2, 1911 in Rotterdam, Holland. His parents were Charles Cohen and Elisabeth Stad Cohen, who also had a daughter named Henny, six years after Ike was born. Ike or Les, as he was called during his school years, grew up during the First World War period and joined his father in the wholesale meat business after finishing his schooling. It was during this period that Ike developed his expertise in the meat business; a skill that he still uses in selecting the finest cuts of meat for his restaurants.

Ike enjoyed numerous hobbies including boxing and playing various instruments. In his twenties Ike enjoyed amateur boxing and played in a band as a drummer performing on cruise ships of the Holland American Line. He also enjoyed the piano, and was especially talented playing “by ear”, In later years the accordion was also an instrument that he played for his enjoyment as well as at parties. Ike also became involved in social clubs where he met his future wife, Bertie Blauw.

Ike and Bertie were married on May 19, 1938 and their first child, David Charles was born on December 9 1940. During World War II his name was changed to Tommy (in honor of the English soldiers known as Tommies) to protect him from the Germans. The political atmosphere in Holland deteriorated and at a certain point Ike and Bertie decided that they had to “go into hiding”. In order to do so, they needed to find a suitable family that would take them in and who were reliable enough in which they could entrust their lives. While waiting outside a bakery, Ike met Gien Daane-Verkouter. She made a very favorable impression on him and appeared very trust worthy.

After making arrangements with Gien, Ike and Bertie moved into her apartment and would stay for two and a half years until the War ended. A hiding place had to be created, where Ike and Bertie could hide when the Germans searched the apartment. A trusted friend of Gien’s completed this carpentry task. This space could not be readily seen, since it was inside a closet. Gien continually risked her life during the War to protect both Ike and Bertie. Ike and Bertie survived the War as did their son Tommy who was hidden by Ike’s cousin. Two other cousins were hidden with Tommy and also survived. Most of Ike’s family including his parents, his sister and her husband, along with some of Bertie’s family perished during World War II. After the War there was still fear that the Communist would invade Holland, since they were threatening Western Europe. This fear created a desire for Ike and Bertie to emigrate to the United States.

However, the Dutch government would not allow Ike (or anyone else) to take money out of Holland to start a new business. In the meantime their daughter, Yvonne was born on June 13, 1946. After the War Ike was able to start a commercial painting business, since he was fortunate enough to purchase paint which was not readily available at that time. Due to the continued fear of uncertainty, Ike and Bertie decided that emigrating to the Netherlands Antilles was feasible, safer and starting a new business was possible since there were no monetary restrictions.

In 1951 the entire family emigrated to Aruba after Ike’s first exploratory visit in 1950. This was when Ike established the Aruba Painting Company. Since Ike had promised Bertie that they would emigrate to the States when that became possible, in 1953 they went on a 17,000 mile trip throughout the United States to determine a suitable place to live. They finally settled on Jacksonville, Florida, since Jacksonville had a large river (the St Johns) flow through the center of town which reminded him of the Maas in Rotterdam. While in the States, Ike and Bertie decided to leave Tommy at boarding school to continue his secondary education, while the rest of the family returned to Aruba.

In 1954 the family emigrated to Jacksonville where Ike started a construction company. He built many homes in Jacksonville, completed numerous commercial jobs, and also constructed public housing and apartments with his partner Jan Koelemij in Tallahassee. In 1963, Ike was elected President of the Northeast Florida Home Builders Association.

Unfortunately, during this time period, Ike and Bertie were divorced. Ike was a family man and disliked living alone and soon met his future wife Grete Max, who had been widowed twice. (Both her husbands where killed in airplane crashes.) Grete had two daughters, Kitty and Ree. Ike married Grete in 1962. In 1964, Ike and Grete traveled to Aruba, and with the help of Ernie Kervel, acquired the Strand Hotel. This later became the Coral Strand Hotel and several years later was named after their famous restaurant The Talk of the Town. Surfside was built in 1970 across the street from Talk of the Town directly on the beach. This soon became a favorite spot for dining and private parties. In the seventies, under the umbrella of Talk of the Town, Ike ventured into the airline catering business. This grew and expanded into an independent business and by the early eighties the Aruba Catering Services opened at the Surfside location. By the early nineties, ACS had outgrown its space and location, and Calloway Corporation was founded with its own premises at the airport. Calloway is currently one of the top airline caterers in the world.

In the early seventies, Ike also purchased The Eight Continent (TEC) and the Manchebo Beach Hotel, two companies who were experiencing financial challenges at the time. TEC was a wholesale importer and Ike thought it would be advantageous to have a company from where he could purchase the products needed for his businesses (hotels, restaurants and airline catering) as well as for distribution to the other hotels and restaurants. Today TEC is still owned by Ike and has become an important wholesaler on the island with distribution rights for Polar Beer, Red Bull, Tulip, Bison Kit, and the new generic pharmaceutical lines from Holland. Manchebo is also still a very successful part of Ike's organization. It is a very popular hotel as is their famous French Steak House and the recently added Italian Gourmet Garden Terrace. The hotel recently opened the beautiful tropical Spa del Sol which is located directly on the beach.

Ike is one of the original founders of the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association, which celebrated its 40th anniversary at the end of 2005. Ike was also received the first and very coveted Golden Conch Award as the Caribbean Hotelier of the Year in 1978 by the Caribbean Hotel Association. In 1983 he was also knighted by Her Majesty Queen Juliana of the Netherlands.

Tragedy struck Ike in 1995 when his wife of 33 years Grete passed away after a difficult fight with cancer. In her remembrance, Ike wanted to give something back to the island that they both so loved and which had given them so many happy years. Ike realized that everyone in Aruba likes to “party” and in 1997 he began the Manchebo Charity Fair to celebrate his birthday and to raise money for local charitable purposes. This party has become the annual mid-year event on Aruba at the Manchebo, with music playing upon arrival in the lobby and continuing to musical groups at the beach. Ike pays for all expenses for the party including all food, drinks, and entertainment.

Participants are asked to contribute Afls 125 (US $70) with 100% of the donations and funds collected allocated to charity. Due to the continuing success of the event and generous contributions made by local businesses and supporters such as Rene Kan, The Stichting Ike Cohen Charity was founded in 2001. The Foundation has raised nearly AWG 1.000.000 ( US $562,000) being made available to various charitable projects on the island.

From that icky site.......

Glenda Posted: Thu Sep 27, 2007 7:19 pm

Brenda Bouwman is the Managing Editor of our fav Dutch newspaper the Amigoe.

I must have gotten my "Brendas" confused.  I thought Brenda Bouwamn was the night clerk that Beth had a conversation within hours of arriving on the Island.

The protection of the tourist dollar that feeds an underground economy throughout the Carribean appears to have been the motivation behind the coverup in the Natalee Holloway case from the getgo.

Justice for Natalee Holloway would have demanded ... not just accountability from Joran or Paulus for their roles but ... also the the Excelsior Casino and Carlos and Charlies where ...  as John Q. Kelly stated ... the entire chain of events that resulted in the demise of an 18 year old American citizen would never have happened if an underage Joran van der Sloot had not been allowed on the premises to gamble and drink.

At 17 years of age ... could it be that Joran van der Sloot was already an active contributor to that underground economy ... the underground economy that encompasses gambling ... drugs ... pornography.  Could it be that this is the reason that those "government inspectors" who Julia Renfro refers to turned a blind eye.

After that we drove straight to Carlos & Charlies. Deepak was the driver but I cannot remember now who was sitting beside him. I do not remember now if it was Satish or me. I estimate that we arrived at Carlos & Charlies between 00.15 and 00.30 hours. Deepak parked his car on the parking lot behind Carlos & Charlies and after that we walked into the building of Carlos & Charlies. I don't have to pay because I have a VIP pass. With my VIP pass Deepak and Satish were also allowed in.

To your question as to who gave me the VIP pass to Carlos & Charlies, I answer you that I got it through the office of Carlos & Charlies. I do not remember with the help of who I got the VIP pass. I got to Carlos & Charlies about one to three times a week.

EXCELSIOR CASINO

LOVING NATALEE

Page 39 - Following our brief conversation, we all walk immediately to the fron desk to ask about someone named Joran who is staying in the hotel and plays in the casino here.  The Holiday Inn night manager, Brenda, knows him by name.  "Oh! yes ... yes ... Joran.  He gambles in the Excelsior Casino here.  He likes to prey on young female tourists.  Especially the blonds.  He is tall.  Good-looking boy.  Like a Dutch marine."   My mouth drops wide open.  "Where is he from?" I ask her.  She replies.  "He lives in Aruba."  I stutter.  "He's ... he's not a tourist just here for the summer?"  "Non, non," she says.

It takes a few moments to absorb this information.  The supposed tourist who befriended some of Natalee's classmates and who told them he was staying at their hotel lied tothem.  He isn't a tourist.  He isn't staying here.

Suspect Statement

Andre asked me to come inside. I did go inside. I did not play, but did look at the cards of Joran and Guido.

At some given moment in time a tourist who was sitting at Joran's table got angry. The tourist thought that we were looking at the cards of other players and signaling/deciding for Joran when he should play or not. It lead to a disagreement between Joran and the tourist. The manager of the Radisson Casino came over and everything calmed down. I drank about four "whisky coke" gedronken in the Radisson Casino. I now that Joran drank more because the waiters were constantly bringing him drinks.   I am not sure .what he was drinking. His drinks were of a yellow colour. I think it was “whisky soda" or 'Whisky water".

I was able to come up with this in Google Maps.  Still no Noord 3, that will be hard to locate but it will tell you approximate location of Noord 3, Noord.  Not far from the hotels and the Sloots, IMO:

Church leaders hold anti-gambling stance

published: Sunday | April 20, 2008

Arthur Hall, Senior Staff Reporter

The Government could find itself in a face-off with the local Christian community if it goes ahead with the introduction of casino gambling.

The Church has repeatedly expressed its opposition to casino gambling and it appears that nothing has changed. Checks with leaders of various denominations last week revealed uniform opposition to casinos.

The Rev Dr Patrick Allen of the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists noted that opposition to casinos has not changed over the years.

"Despite the talk of economic gains from casinos, the Church's position has not changed and will not change," Allen stated. "The position of the Church is based on scripture and will not fluctuate based on conditions."

Spiritual decay

It was a similar position from the Rev Kevin Richards of the Young Crusaders Ministries.

"The country is suffering a spiritual decay and unfortunately, it is coming from the top," charged Richards. "There are other ways that we can boost tourism without casinos."

In supporting his colleagues, Pastor Garfield Paris of the Bethlehem Evangelistic Assembly, argued that casinos represented a short cut to riches and did not develop the work ethic of the population. He rejected claims that the Church was failing to speak out on other problems facing the society while targeting casinos.

"The outcry of the Church has always been put on the back burner until something happens. Casinos will carry crime and violence with them," Paris charged.

More negative conditions

The fear is also shared by the Rev Ian Muirhead of the Upper Room Community Church: "Casinos will create more negative conditions that will add to our problems as a nation."

The church leaders echoed the cry of the Rev Roy Notice of the Mandeville New Testament Church of God who used the National Prayer Breakfast in January to urge the administration not to consider introducing casinos.

With political, business and religious leaders in the audience, Notice said Jamaica should be looking to scale down its indulgence in games of chance and instead rekindle a stronger work ethic in the country.

"Why not explore the benefits of religious tourism, and why not work on making Jamaica the conference Mecca of the Caribbean?" Notice asked.

do you think gielen and renfro and castro will take time out from their bashing natalee duties and start advertising aruba as the birthplace of jesus and mohammad?  they can easily find chambermaids and bartenders and cab drivers that saw the two of them walking hand in hand when they were younger.  their birthplaces will be found on oduber's "ranch" and with proper promotion, respectful of course, aruba will have to build a 4 lane highway from the airport and cruise ship docks to handle the crowds.  the possibilities are endless.

Part of this was already posted but I thought it was a excellent analysis by this Dutchman..

“Geen lijk, geen zaak!” "No corpse, no case"
by Lucas Hartong          4 februari 2008

A brief analysis about the Holloway case-Van der Sloot.

With many people I have the broadcast last night by Peter R. De Vries about Natalee Holloway and Joran van der Sloot, and am extremely pleased that there is a breakthrough in the case has come. What many do not know is that I am the Holloway case all this time have followed from personal interest, particularly in view of the role of police and judiciary. Aruba is a boevennest in that area and I can certify from personal experience. A small analysis with comments on the issue.

The most remarkable and dubious role in the whole issue is not Joran son, but father Paul van der Sloot. After graduating rights in Tilburg he works for a time as a lawyer in the Netherlands to people in their resistance against the government, but soon after getting acquainted with his future wife leaves him to Aruba. He remains friends in the Netherlands, including Judge Robert Jacob White. From 2003 he was deputy judge for the Court of Justice and Antillean until the end of 2005, he judge in training, but then he became a lawyer. (1) During this period he has shown the justice system and in particular the personal networks continue to improve. It is a small world on Aruba and everybody knows everybody. When necessary, we know each other to be found in the bar or casino.

Therefore, Paul van der Sloot Police also Jan van der Straten know and they are close friends. Possibly that Paul via Jan regular coal from the fire picks for zoonlief again if he has picked up some girls, too much money has vergokt or something too many have used marijuana. 'We know our' and as Joran in the broadcast of Peter R. De Vries known, "I 'have something on them'."
Very quickly, Jan van der Straten as research on the matter Holloway put. Hoofdofficier of Justice Karin Janssen: "There is so vast that already a few days after the disappearance of the boy's father talks about the fact that there is no case without a corpse would." (2) of Justice Minister Rudy Croes confirms this almost immediately and also that there are 'many suspicious telephone calls between Paul van der Sloot and Jan van der Straten went back and forth during the early stages of the investigation. Van der Straten ensures that Paul van der Sloot all police and FBI investigations and will in no way block access for Van der Sloot to the digital scholars in the judicial computers. Meanwhile palief advises his son to remain silent and nothing to say. On the day that the PPS ordered a search of the home of Joran and the parents, does Judge-friend Jacob Wit the door open and get it together to search in the parental home, to silent astonishment and subsequent frustration of the PPS. (3)

The court commissioner who handles the case Holloway refuses Van der Sloot now for a third time to arrest, while there is so much new evidence. (4) The same person refused then the whole house of Paul van der Sloot to investigate. Joe Tacopina, a lawyer for Joran van der Sloot, said today that Paul van der Sloot with the Aruban Chief has spoken. (5) Of course, "he is now a father" cover their fathers and sons always, or the act. Onderzoeksleider Jan van der Straten without specifically identifiable reason a while ago of the case met and now leads the police on Bonaire, where he Brinkman Hero of the wild PVV arrest because of libel. These so.

Peter R. De Vries is a long way with his research. The last wires hanging loose and yet these are the most dangerous. I think Joran a number of names from the publicity means, from fear to really everything to lose and ultimately to be included in the clinic, which he already by Jan van der Straten was recommended. Zwijgplicht in exchange for a relatively normal life? Joran: "You have yet again by, eh?"

Natalee will never return. A mother and father might finally begin a process of processing. The true perpetrators have yet to be punished. That that is certainly going to happen, but the road is long. There are very many interests at stake for himself vindende important, and that all persons under the credo: "No corpse, no case"

A blast from the past...in honor of Daury.

July 2005

DRUG DEALERS 'WILL KILL TEEN IN ARUBA CASE IF HE TALKS'

By DON GENTILE

Dutch teenager Joran van der Sloot is terrified he and his family will be murdered if he confesses all he knows about the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

The National Enquirer can reveal that police on Aruba are investigating this theory, which centers on whether narcotics dealers supplied Joran with the drug ecstasy, helped him get rid of Natalee's body — and told him he'd vanish forever if he didn't keep his mouth shut.

"Joran's statements have changed many times because he does not want police to find out who helped dispose of Natalee's body," said a source close to the case. "Police believe that people involved in getting rid of the body have threatened to murder Joran and his family if he ever names them."

Natalee, 18, vanished May 30 while on a high school graduation trip to Aruba with classmates from Alabama's Mountain Brook High School.

She was last seen leaving a nightclub and getting into a car with Joran, 17, and his friends, Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and his brother Satish, 18.

During their investigations, police have arrested two security guards, Joran, the Kalpoe brothers, a party boat disc jockey and Joran's father Paulus. All were released except Joran — and he remains the prime suspect.

Joran maintains his innocence but has changed his story. First he said he dropped a drunk Natalee off at the Holiday Inn where she was staying after a makeout session with her in the back of the Kalpoes' car. Later he said the Kalpoe brothers dropped him and Natalee off on a beach near the island's Marriott hotel and he left her there alone.

As The National Enquirer reported last week, police theorize that Natalee died accidentally, possibly drowning after she fell and hit her head in a drug-induced stupor. Police also believe Joran confessed to his father that Natalee had taken ecstasy and when she died, Joran panicked and decided to get rid of the body. But he needed help — and knew where to find it.

"Joran is believed to be friends with a known ecstasy dealer in Aruba and police think that's where he got the drug," said the source.

"When Natalee died, Joran got in touch with the dealer. The theory is that the dealer had an incentive to dispose of her body so that police wouldn't trace the drugs back to him. But the dealer made it clear to Joran that if he talked he'd disappear too."

On a similar note, police are investigating whether Paulus, a former justice department official, helped his son get rid of Natalee's body by contacting shady characters he knows.

"The police are looking into Paulus van der Sloot's finances and whether he might be connected to mobsters that may have ties to Aruba's casino business," said the source. "Paulus is a known high-stakes poker player."

The National Enquirer has also uncovered details of Joran's activities in the early hours of May 30.

"Police discovered Joran used his cell phone to send an instant message marked 'URGENT!' to Deepak Kalpoe at approximately 2.45 am," said the source. "The instant message essentially told Deepak that Joran was walking home from the beach. He said he had 'left the girl behind.'

"At approximately 3:30 am, Joran sent the first of a series of other instant messages from his home computer to Deepak indicating he needed to talk to him about something important. After examining Joran's cell phone and computer, police discovered that someone tried to manipulate the clocks and calendars inside the devices so it would look like the messages were sent at different times.

"Police think it's suspicious that Joran's instant message to Deepak was marked urgent — they believe it was critical for Joran to reach him to concoct a phony story about what happened to Natalee."

These sentences I think are very very suspicious.

When Beth arrived at the house of VdS he did not let her inter the house.

I find that also more than weird.

Hi Briany..Yes it became even more suspicious when Judge Wit spoke out after the case was closed in Dec/Jan where he blamed Chief Dompig and Chief Prosecuter Karin Janssen. He said Dompig obstructed Justice and wanted the Van Der Sloots to have there privacy and to not search the home..He also said that the OM never asked to search anything more then Joran's Apt..But we have statements from the OM and Dompig that they were dissapointed that they were denied the search twice,Dompig blamed the OM and said they did not present a good case to search the house.  It is all on record that they are all lying about the search of the Van Der Sloot home.

Hi *******,

Why would a lawyer, who is telling his son to go to school the next morning to show there is nothing going, at the same time prevents the search of his living?
VdS must have realized that he makes himself a suspect by providing search in his own house, but in spite of that he still made sure his living was not searched.

Maybe he had his reasons.
